Ooh, I'm still paranoid as to how my nephew's going to react to a new baby sibling...We're afraid he won't understand, and he'll hurt it. sad

Hi guys. Update on school this year:
Naaman IS double rolled for kindergarten. However, he has to have this IEP thing in order to actually start the kindergarten afternoon classes. But, the schools never did the IEP for the kids in my son's morning program from last year. They dont' even know yet when they are going to do it. stressed Geez. I told them they need to let me know in advance since I work mostly days now. So, I can arrange my work so i can be there.

Since I last posted, Naaman has taken a real liking to a book I got for him a while back called Are You My Mother? And, he has wanted me to read it... at least once an hour a day. xp But... the past few days it gets a little tiring reading the same ten-fifteen pages OVER AND OVER AND OVER.... so, sometimes I tell him to wait a little while. He will take the book to another part of the room adn try to read it to himself. he remembers exactly what i read to him on the pages. I think he has me read it more so he can memorize what i'm saying... It is cute.

Still no progress with potty training. Well, he sits on the toilet, but he hasn't put anything in it. It frustrates me to no end trying to catch him so it goes in there. gonk

I know josh hates it, but I just might buy a book I found on Amazon.com called Toilet Training with Autism.

Well I'm sure his parents will work with him.

Grace, I hope school is going well for him. I'm sure the book can't help. Boys can be really stubborn at potty training as it is, especially if communication is a toughie. I know Logan doesn't talk much. KEpp us updated!

Well news flash noone goes in there and people would like some answers ...so they post a hey or what to do and what do they get "oh sorry post it in a general thred" ..plus im sorry to say (and i wont name names) some of the members are so stuck on themselves and self rightous it makes me want to vomit! To them i say your a parent just like me so take yourself of that pedastal please. Point blank im done with this guild.. it just isnt what i expected. So pm me or leave a post here and ill leave this thread to someone to watch and keep up thanks.

Monkey, Im going to direct you to the Loki's Work Journal, to see what we are currently doing in the guild, we are not locking threads for the sake of locking them, we are currently doing what we will term "fall cleaning" People who are not regulars at the guild are more apt to get their thread locked because they do not know where to post things, regulars have had their threads locked aswell though.

We have made a formal announcement asking people not to become offended if their post is locked, if it is locked its given a reason or redirected to the proper place in the guild.

You have not made any formal complaints to us, thus we did not know of the problem you had with the locking of the threads. You are always welcome to PM Loki or myself and discuss with us these things, we are open to comments and suggestions. Please take note of the problems you are seeming and PM myself or Loki with them, and we will deal with them to the best of our abilities. And what we believe is nessisary for the guilds well being. I am very sorry, we cannot appease everyone there is no such thing as perfection, but we are doing our best to reduce the problems in the guild that we have been notified by other members about, and we will do the best with the ones you seem to be having with the guild.

I am sorry to hear this.

But I am agreeing with gentle here, for she is right.

I have made an announcement in my work journal that we are currently trying to make the guild less cluttered with repeat/clutter threads. I am sorry that you feel certain members are being singled out. That is not, however, the case. I haven't even been online for several months, so I haven't even gotten familiar with who is new and who isn't anymore. I am just locking threads that would be better suited for the stickies I have made.

I made the stickies so that certain types of popular subjects would all be centralized, thus making it easier for someone seeking help or info to find what they were looking for. And, in my opinion, the reason people don't use the stickies as much, is because they see other people continuing to post their own threads instead of using the stickies.

And the reason this thread has never been locked (and shouldn't be) is because it doesn't deal with the typical rigors of "General Parenting." It deals with something more specialized. And that is why it is not considered a repeat thread.

As for the two photo threads, you're right, there are two. However, one is for posting up pics of your kids, and the other is for posting pics of yourself. The reason they haven't been locked or changed has NOTHING to do with who started them. It has mostly to do with the fact that they are for two different things, and I have forgotten about them. However, if you had a suggestion or comment about the photo threads, then you can always PM me or gentle, or ANY of the Crew to express your concerns.

And as for making the guild full of stickies... well, at one point the whole first page practically WAS just stickies. I tried to compress them all into just a few though. I realize that people will invariably want to make their own threads and such, but we want to try and at least get people to utilize what's there. MANY of those stickies contain valuable info and have the potential to hold much more for easy browsing. We cannot literally FORCE people to use the stickies, but we want to encourage people to make use of them for what they are for and what they contain. We're not behaving any differently than regualr Gaia mods when they lock/delete someone's thread and direct them to an appropriate sticky. Also, guilds should be getting the option for subforums soonish, and as soon as that becomes available, I will be making use of them to help make this guild even more organized and easy to navigate.

I am sorry you chose to quit. I am sorry you are upset with what we are doing. All we are doing is trying to de-clutter and make this place easier to navigate. I can assure you that I make no favorites. If you had access to the Crew's activity log, then you'd see that a number of my own Crew, and older GPG members, have had their own threads locked or even deleted for the sake of cleaning things up. I've deleted/locked my own threads. My Crew have as well.

When we lock a thread, we try to be polite about it and do it in an instructive way. None of us has ever been mean-spirited when locking a thread.

I just wanted to mention that today was picture day at school. This day last year, he refused to take a picture and started crying and panicing soon as they took him in the room. When he came home today, his picture envelope I sent was gone. This means he took his photo, so hurray for naaman.

Also, the last few weeks, we've been having like story time countless times a day. Some days it's the same books over and over. And, times I make him wait for another story. He'll go off in teh room and flip through the pages of the book he wants me to read. He pretends to read to himself. I think it's really cute. I also feel happy because even through his autism. He is starting to really enjoy books and being read to. I worried that I didn't start him out with books early enough, but it would seem my efforts this past summer are really starting to set in.

On another note, the school still hasn't finished his autism evaluation. They also haven't done his IEP. Everytime I call to find out what the deal is, they just tell me that they are waiting too to find out what the deal is. Oh um.. well, my son is delayed in starting kindergarten by a month already waiting for this. I hope they get it done before end of october. And, I hope they give me at least a week's notice, so I can rearrange my work schedule to accomdate it.

I also am hoping that Josh will be willing to go to the evaluation. He'll hate being up early, but I think he would find it more rewarding if he were a little more involved with Naaman's schooling. I know he doesn't want to be bothered by the stupidity I deal with on part of the administration. Still.. I know he does care about what is going on with Naaman. I just think he would really feel more in "the know" if he were to come along to some of this stuff.

Hey, I have an update of sorts. I've been waiting for naaman's IEPT which he has been needing to begin afternoon kindergarten. However, last year we began an evaluation which would certify his autism. Well, they never concluded that. So, this friday we have our meeting to decide whether he is or not. then in another week or two, we have another one to determine what programs he is eligible for. One of the people on the evaluation team had an undisclosed meeting with me to give me resources to contact to help me press for naaman's rights. This person felt that the other members of the team weren't entirely certain of his autism. I need to go in there ready to fight for him. I think school administrators are stupid. and when i go there, I am going to tell them if they aren't going to do what they can to help my child. Then, maybe me and my family will have to see what we can do about moving him into another district where he can get the help he needs.

I'm glad to hear you're making some more progress with this, grace. It can be hard haviong to work with administrators who don't neccessarily wanna work with you, but at least on of 'em on your side!

Just be assertive and state what you need and want and hopefully they'll listen. Best of luck!

Yeah thanks. I've been thinking about it. Initially, I wanted josh to come because I thought it would help with his whole denial of anything wrong. I finally got him to see that naaman's delayed developments are NOT normal for his age group, and that among his peers, he will not be able to function normally. Still, if there are people on the board who want to say that he is not autistic. I think having josh there might be counterproductive. Also, I'm inviting my mom. I'm gonna try and track down the lady who watched the kids in the playroom when i would go to my mom's groups on thursdays. They are both people who can echo my sentiments that naaman obviously needs some kind of help.

Unfortunately, all the help in our area is either super expensive, or it requires a certification.

What i really need to do is work on saving up money to pay off the neurologist so we can visit with her again.
