Sunstrike made a slightly strangled noise as the blades shot upwards and his grip changed from openpalmed to clenched fists almost imediately. Using the precious seconds only half afforded to him, he yanked himself down, pulling his legs in to help.

He flipped awkwardly, arms screaming at him for trying to make them double jointed when they obviously weren't, back to back with Max, hands still clenching the shoulders and feet dangling.

Red quietly dripped into the grass, as a triangle scar leaked blood down his calf, he hadn't been quite as fast as he should have been. He let go of the cloth and dropped down into a crouch.

"You're not supposed to be here!"

The left hand curled as Lazenca came to a slow halt before the beast, then whipped outward- this attack missed, but it was fine because this was only generating the power for the real attack. The right hand followed, bringing Lazenca face to face with it for one second. It was in this second that Lazenca felt and saw blackness cover his face, and slam him down into the ground.

What he'd forgotton was that this legend was in the ice, with fire that didn't burn. This thing was attuned to ice, so it was more like being pushed with a hand than some biting cold force. The beast was... intelligent, and had lulled Lazenca into a false sense of security.

"And so... I'll kill you!"

Lazenca suddenly felt much colder than he already was, which was something since they were in a tundra. Was his opponent trying to freeze his body? A mental smile, and Lazenca went about disallowing the freezing by way of Negative Gain.

For as long as the being wanted to pump him, Laz would let him, taking in all the released energy.

::He had no desire to really hurt Sun, by twisting the blades or anything sick like that. He just had to stop him...it wasnt time yet. It wasnt done yet.

He nearly fell as Sun jerked down but managed to shift his footing to catch himself.

As Sun fell to his knee, the shadowy figures right made a single circular motion followed by a straight line in front of himself, ripping all 5 swords from their respective places, and lining them up in front of him. He could almost hear Sun's pain. He righted himself, tugging the ends of his coat to straight out the wrinkles.::

I'm sorry Sun...it doesnt have to be this way...

::He knew Sun probably wouldnt back down, but he had to throw the offer out there if for nothing more than his own concience. That familiar sound of feet scrunching grass could be heard as he turned around facing the crouched Sun's back. His right arm extended forward pointing at Sun's back. And all 5 swords aligned above the man ready to converge.::

"It doesn't have to be which way!?" Sun growled, slowly standing again, his back to the other man. "You're the one with the weapons. Are you saying that I could stay here forever? Because I just can't...if you're lonely, I understand, more then you could know, but that doesn't mean you can keep me here."

He leaned heavily against the taller being and crossed his arms, always keeping the corner of his eyes on those blades, but ultimately not caring that he was getting this close.

"If you wanna talk, we'll talk, if you wanna fight, we'll fight. But I can't stay."

Sunstrike fell over with an oof, banging his head.

"Hey!" He squinted, blinded at the sudden brightness around him.

Had that guy nearly said "have fun?!" If Sun had been in his right mind, he'd have been ticked, but as it was, he felt a little lonely instead and tried to file away what he'd witnessed.

"What's done, though?"

Hehehahaahhhaa!

::Maniacal laughter for just a moment as the Doctor held a small computer chip up the the dim flickering light. He seemed so excited, so why did his arm fell limp on the table as he set the chip down?

It was odd, but the look on his face made it seem more as if in accomplishing so much he had realized example how much he had lost. For a moment, he understood exactly what he was going to do, and what he had to do. He always knew this day was going to come, that one day he would have to give it all for either his family or the memory of such. Honestly, he had hoped he'd have a few more smiles from Mary, perhaps a few less stitches. Maybe he would have been able to give Marcel a proper body...or or...there never really was enough time.

Such was the way of the world. To live, to wish, to fail and to regret. He knew if had done everything he could have dreamed of at this moment, it still wouldnt be enough.

This was his tragedy. He walked to the edge of his lab, his hand pressed against the cold window as he wondered what his life would have been like if he just didnt say a few things he said. If he had closed that door in Henry's face. If perhaps he had turned that little boy away. Could he really have?

He felt the cold sting his hand, and yet he didnt pull away, almost if he was used to it...as if it was what he wanted, as if it was where he was most comfortable.

Alone. Cold. Where the monsters live. But...this was for a good cause. This would make everyone who mattered happier...no matter the cost, it had to be done. He looked back at M4X, The robotic unit spread out across four different operating tables, with a voice filled with static sputtered. The Doctor lowered his head, as his left hand had begun loosing color. As weak as it was, he wished he could have had her again right now, just not this cold night.

His right fist clenched and shook. It was time.::

Both hands clamped around the beast's restraining wrist, Lazenca's claws quickly seeking a snag hold. His back rocked as he fought for breathing room. Held down to the ground in such a way, the best way up was bringing the opponent down. A powerful thrust was thrown upwards past Laz's head, aimed at unbalancing his foe. At the same time and in anticipation for the weight that would fall upon him, Lazenca used the rocking to bring his legs up to his chest. As expected, the opponent was pressing downward with his whole body so when Lazenca threw the arm upwards, the beast was unbalanced and fell.

Lazenca kept his hold, weak and unsteady as it was- what seemed to be crystallized fur was stopping Lazenca from plunging his claws in and securing the hold within muscles. He was sure the beast would be soon to struggle, so what he planned to do, he had to do fast. With the feet against the beast's chest, Laz curled his toes so that his claws were pushed into the beast's body, then dragged the left foot down, immediatly followed by the right. In alternating and circular motion to replace one foot as the next stretched, he performed a running motion. Normally, this would rip open the opponent's stomach but this foe's hide was very thick. However, its howling was testament to the pain it recieved.

The running didn't last long- Lazenca was holding one arm, and the beast was able to flip to the side. With a strong kick of both feet, his opponent was kicked in the stomach. The movement was as much an offense as it was a defense- he used the burst of energy and stretching motion to bounce back half a foot, at which point Lazenca would begin to scramble away on his back. The beast had been knocked two feet onto its back, which made this sort of seperation possible. Otherwise, the two would be entangled quicker than Laz was anticipating.

What could be done? Using arctic powers was out of the question, because they would he healing each other. While Lazenca was parrying the beasts attacks, he was unsure of any returned attacks were doing more than annoying the beast.

"Are you here for it?

This was getting annoying. How many times did he have to say that he meant no harm, that he was here by chance and circumstance... that if the guy just stopped coming at him with the killer's look in his eye, then Lazenca would go away? Fighting a beast like this is not what Lazenca needed because already, he was recognizing his foe as potential food. Life and death struggles happened, but would they be forced to remain in one here?

"I'm not here for your damn... anything!" Lazenca rolled around so that he was on all fours, ready to defend himself from the next attack that was sure to come.

He was already getting to his feet, and shifted out of the beast form. "I am Valek."

"What are you telling me for? Was this some kind of test?"

"No. You should know the name of who's about to kill you, that you may fear the it in your next life."

Valek's right hand moved to his right side and he made the motion of drawing a sword. What was suprising was that there was nothing at the being's side to draw. Red eyes burned as his mouth opened into a toothy grin. "Sticks and stones can't break my bones... not with this, the Shieldbreaker."

A flash of light, and Valek stood with a sword at his side.

Lazenca sighed. He wasn't ready to forfeit this life just yet.

You'd be suprised what you could do when you had a madman swinging a sword at you.

The only thing was, he wasn't swinging it. It was more like taunting, goading. He wanted Lazenca to rush, undoubtedly to skewer our hero. There'd be none of that. For five minutes did Valek press the neutral ground, and for five minutes did Lazenca back away. It was people like this that'd make him trigger, and that wasn't what Lazenca needed. No... what he needed right now was to just have this guy disappear so that Lazenca could find his bag and eat something. You see, after the power overload, Lazenca had been dragged somewhere but his bag was still out there. Hopefully, it wasn't too far away and the weather hadn't affected anything. If anything, Lazenca could follow footsteps.

"Are you enjoying your fear?"

"Are you enjoying hearing yourself talk?"

This was going nowhere fast.

Boom.

Nothingness.

Pure black nothingness.

And through it travelled a black spark, weaving through countless pathways and innumerable doors, already seeking a predestined route.

Some people think birth is one of the most traumatic experiences a person goes through. No reason to think death is just as lousy.

Truth being, there's no way to describe the agony.

There had been the echoing of last words spoken... and then the tingling sensation that rippled up and down his spine.

Before every single molecule in his body was ripped apart, one by one, only to be then meshed together with the existing molecular structures present.

They were then vaccuumed-- sucked at the speed of light through the portal--

And truth being, agony doesn't begin to cover it.

There was a scream.

There was screaming.

I got no problem with pain.

Me and pain are old friends.

Images of landscapes and people passed by, of fights long since passed, moments long since cherished flashed by continously as if on a broken reel...

Every time I just fight, I'm burning through fresh blood. But that's pain of the body.

This is pain of the soul.

From birthright, to sorrow, and celebration--- the images continued to come and go, as if showcasing the greatest and worst moments of his life. The death of Ashe, the emergence of his flame, the sealing of Efreet, the beheading of his own father, the destruction of the stadium-- the immolation of his own body as he blew himself up along with Reiko...

Dying not withstanding, I've only felt that kinda pain just a few times before.

It's the kinda pain that does things to you. Messes with your head... And it's not even the worst part.

The darkness was suddenly pulled away, as the black spark passed through one final arc.

The worst part is this...the light.

It's a cliche'. I know 'Stay away from the light.' 'Walk towards the light.'

But how do you think a cliche becomes a cliche in the first friggin' place?

And even there, admist all the flood of memories, one solid figure stood in the backdrop, silently watching.

Or maybe there's no light at all.

Maybe this is just the way my brain processes somethin' that can't be processed with human logic.

I dunno.

Doesn't matter.

What does matter is... I know-- I sense that goin' into that light... means dying for good.

The figure raised it's hooded head, blank red eyes staring passively, even as the shroud of darkness surrounding it seemed to suck in all the light.. into nothingness.

And he's there. As usual.

Hoping it'll happen. Each time.

I expect different. I know I shouldn't.

But I do.

Can't help it.

He's waiting for you Vahn.

He's waiting and so am I.
Yellowed black eyes suddenly filled his mind, even as that familiar laughter echoed into his head suddenly.

The black spark fizzles out... even as it arrives ar its pre-ordained location.

Each and every single molecule is reassembled as fiercely as they had been seperated.

The pain brings memories of ruptured muscle and blood.... the sound of screaming brings back memories of all 5 senses, sight, hearing, taste, touch, etc. The feeling of landing shoddily on his knees jolts back memories of limbs.

The ragged air brings back memories of lungs, heart, liver... and the biting cold brings back flesh and hair.

Vahn had arrived.

Into nothingness.

The palm of a warm, small, hand ruffled through the dark locks, peacefully. Bringing with it, a kind of warmth and life to the barren tundra at the very edges of a cold sea. At least til Vahn righted himself and got used to the situation he'd just been through.

The large body of water was so close that the spray sometimes rose up, only to freeze and crash back down into the black wet abyss. Other then this was an eerie silence that came with intense conditions such as these.

"It's always hard...the first time." Jean grinned at the darker man, apparently unaffected by the weather, despite being dressed for high summer. She looked around and then leaned against a pillar of ice, half melting it into a seat. There was a kind of gate at this side, formed in a natural hollow in the ice, which is where she chose to stay put.

The wind and the cold were brutal, and magic was so terribly thin, it was almost nonexistant.

"Can I ask you something?"

Still slightly groggy and feeling like he was about to hurl up about a week's worth of food, he used his flamberge for support, leaning heavily on it, before standing straight up.

"This is...."

His words trailed off as his thoughts continued onward.

"It's not about my hard nipples is it?" He was still clad in nothing but jeans and a t-shirt, having severely under dressed for the climate.

Finale: In The End It Was Always... Goodbye.

The secondary wing is complete Doctor.

::A cold almost mechanized voice spoke to a man with hairs gone gray, behind a glass window. He had taken to leaning a weary arm on the glass to hold him, up, age had come to The Doctor had it was coming fast.

The figure seemed human, though in a crackle of thunder one could see the mechanized parts intermingled and transfused into the rotted remains of a human corpse. Dozens of these beasts had taken to working on some massives structure beside the Black Hospital. They worked tirelessly day and night, and all the while there "father" watched on from his window out across this dark...dank, world.

Without emotion or thought the man raised his ragged and wrinkled right hand and spoke. His voice was deeper, older, ragged.::

Son.

Yes father.

::A purple light glowed from behind the man, as a set of two glowing violet eyes rose, and violet lighting could be seen tracing the frame of a being.::

Call your children back...

::There were a few barely audible beeps before the android responded. His voice sounding less human and more machine, reverberating as it chimed off his metallic body.::

Emergency Nanotech Release System Override.
Manual Control Regained.
Recalling Nanotech Units....

---Gaian Ocean---

::Off the coast of Guldor a single fish broke the surface of the water, and turned. The moonlight glistening off its silvery body as it turned to face the Guldor shore.

The single fish soon found itself joined by two more...then three more...then 10, 100, 1000, 100,000. In a matter of minutes millions of tiny creatures peaked up from all over the Gaian oceans surface each turning to face the same location at the northern tip of Guldor. Man could only above the surface with his naked eye, but beneath billions of larger creatures all joined in the group gaze.

And then came the wave. During most tidal waves the oceans waters retreat out and the wave comes crashing in, but this, was in complete reverse.

Every major shore in the ocean steadily bore witness to a wall of water rising up exactly 300ft, the inch. Cities were visited by mass hysteria as citizens of Gaia as a whole believed the end was upon them. The wall had come so silently but its power was immense. Not a soul doubted that should the waves fall their lives would end. The Ocean was a god in its own right, free to flow and bend as it wishes, and free to rise up and crush the scion of man.

And tonight those mighty walls rolled, out to sea. As opposed to crashing inland the waves rolled out toward the deep ocean, each wave moving toward a single point in the dead center between Barton and Guldor.

As waved rolled past continents the massive titans smashed and crashed into each other amassing into a total of 4 waves, totalling over 500ft, smashing into one center point with a thunderous slam. With a massive splash, the waves impacted each other shooting up water thousands of feet straight up, the water rose and fell, as something lifted from ground zero of the massive impact.

As the waters receeded a tower could be seen standing in its place, a massive silver structure, which immediately, lengthening and extending like a snake of impossible size before whiplashing forth at Guldor itself.

It smashed into shore with a giant caucophony, debris and sand scattered for miles as the giant snake slithered across the sand and snow, leaving a humongous trail before finally wrapping around the Black Hospital and taking its final stop.

The waters of Gaia were save from advancement. Who dare carry a desire or buring plea for change or reconstructions? All things returned to how they were, and how they truly should be. The eco-system continuing as if naught had happened.::

Present Day

::The massive serpent was nowhere to be seen. The tower stood tall, with another square structure standing beside it in the silent snow.::
PostPosted: Thu Nov 23, 2006 4:10 am

Jean grinned and got up, even as something landed next to her in the snow from the portal. Wings fluttering a little, she dragged the package the short distance to Vahn, before proceeding to rummage in it.

"Perky as they are and as cute as a button you seem to be...no." A pair of glasses settled themselves on Vahn's eyes, and the world turned a pale blue. They wouldn't impair his vision, quite the contrary, in a dead world they'd be able to sense the life underneath.

She continued to talk as she rummaged.

"Things went from bad to worse for Deity when he exposed himself to the troubles of the outside. He wasn't supposed to leave the general stadium area. Should the stadium be gone, he was to wait for a gaurdian until it was back. This didn't happen. Henry was amused, and that's never good."

An undershirt and pants of warm black cotton were yanked out and dropped in front of the cold man.

"Believing his son to have gone rogue again, Henry did the only thing he could. He waited until you were distracted, and had left, and took back what actually is rightfully his. Henry can not directly interfere with Gaia's gaurdians or gods in training, you see. Else that would expose everything to them. The gaurdians of the passage to death. But leaving the person you know as Sunstrike in the infirmary left enough doubt in Deity's mind, for his father to gain a hold."

She waited until he put these clothes on, before pulling out what looked like a great pile of belts, her small form leaned down in the snow and started to disentangle them with amazing speed, revealing what ended up looking like a pair of pants.

"Sunstrike's mind is shattered. It's worse then not knowing you. Knights was being kind. Deity doesn't recognize himself. He'll be regressing back to what he was before Gaia, and forgetting this place even existed. It just hurts too much. That was the plan anyway. Then he'd be taken apart by the same person that made his body, and Henry would collect the soul of Deity, hiding him some place else. He seemed to be safe around you, hidden, but we couldn't take the risk when you went up against your brother."

Jean bit her lip in worry.

"But things have gone pearshaped. We never counted on how much the doctor would remember, or how much he would loathe gods, to the point of trying to kill Deity...that...we have actually no idea how much Deity actually manipulated that to this point. It's the same with you being here...he might have planned that from the very beginning...we just don't know." She paused in the untangling, which was starting to look like a vest.

"What I need to tell you is...Henry used you to break him...seeing you again might make things better or worse, it's very hard to tell at this point, even by people Deity created." She continued silently in her work, finally finishing the vest.

"You called him your best friend, Vahn, but in all honesty. Will that take you as far as you want to go?"

Lastly she ripped something apart along the bag, and it fell open with a clank, revealing a fur-lined, one-sleeved, jacket, with enough metal bits on it to classify it as it's own piece of armour. It would be heavy, like the clothing, but it would be warm, even for this weather. It would take a strong stubborn man to carry it, someone willing to carry on even through snow like this.

She simply stared at him, waiting for an answer.

"I can't say I understand much of any of that. To be honest maybe it's a bit too complicated for a guy like me to really care about..."

His eyes stared out over the deathly quiet landscape, looking out of place but certainly not feeling it. "All my life I've been used by other people, willingly and unwittingly... on both ends. But I always did it on my own terms, in my own way.

I can't say I know about Henry, gods, the state of life or whatever else--- but I do know this--"

He stood there, overlooking the cold ocean with nothing on, the pants and shirt clutched tightly in one hand. "He's waiting for me."

His head was lowered slighltly, even as he laughed a bit. "It's always better to not overcomplicate things... whatever happens when I get to him, happens, for better or worse. At least I'll know I got there."

He started slipping on the clothes as they were handed to him, his voice dropping.

"I don't know the meaning of the word 'defeat'. And in addition to that-- No matter how useless I may be... I have shed a lot of blood in order to master the powers of this damned body.

To use it in order to protect something important would be a pleasure beyond anything else I've ever experienced."
