SullenFever98 Bb Bb C Bb Eb D Bb Bb C Bb F Eb Bb Bb Bb(8va) G Eb Eb D C Ab Ab G Eb F Eb You should know the rhythm And I was about to do GGAGCB. xd I don't need my piano or flute to dictate tunes. o_o I guess it's a matter of knowing your intervals. xp And we flutes are bad enough to tune as a section in band, with about 10 of us. >>; Don't want to imagine piccolos. xd

netsumi RinoaHeartilly netsumi does anyone know any good tips for improving tone quality??? I want to get better REALLY bad, the band I'm in is way out of my league and I feel so left out...v.v tone? what's wrong with your tone? err... that is, if you can describe it...? sweatdrop it's really crappy and unsustainable...i.e., it's really weak sweatdrop can anyone please help?Hmm. Do you have a teacher? Ask them. Try Practice Books for the Flute, Part One, Tone by Trevor Wye. I'm using it, find it pretty good. Err, I recommend you check the tuning first. Make sure it's a good sound. If that sounds OK, maybe you're not holding the note well. Don't move your lips or change the air flow- keep everything the same. Don't cover the mouthpiece too much. Hold your right arm up to a reasonable height. Hope that helps. xp

But I wouldn't really know how it felt to be sad because i sucked...hehe sweatdrop The first time i picked up a flute, i could play it...>.< Maybe its cuz my mom played all her life? BAHH!! But practice a lot and you'll probably get good =)

I spent ages blowing hard at it to no avail and eventually started getting sounds directing the air stream right. xd

Roll away if your flat, towards you if you're sharp, I think. The first time I picked up a flute, I held it the wrong way! I held it to my left side and not my right, when I realized how it was really held I felt like such an idiot. Again, for your tone, practice your emboucure(can't spell that, sorry). Tighten it up, or loosen, whatever feels comfortable.

Dudes-I am on a bit of a high as i just got into the semi-finals of Young Musician in school!!! anyone else do competitions like that? anyway- noone has any sympathy for the fact that has some sort of repetative strain injury on the third and little finger of my right hand because the piece i play has absolutely tonnes of "D E F# D E" combinations of demi-semi-quavers!!! ouch! only my fellow flute players can undertand the pain...... Next thursday i have the day from hell- Two GCSE exams, a maths mid-year exam, YM semi-finals, and then A theory of Music exam. that was completely boring stuff to read that i just had to get out of my system. sorry. Quote: netsumi wrote: does anyone know any good tips for improving tone quality??? My tone used to be pants but i play them every time before i practice and it gradually got better! Another thing is that the mouth piece may be wrong for you, if you are serious about the flute, trade yours in and get another one. thats what I did and it really did work! xxx

I believe, in order to improve tone, u hav to practice alot. I mean alot. Also try to make the lips tight, but not too tight. Loose lips will cause the sound to be airy, tight lips will make it crack easily.
Floutist is a professional flute player, whereas flutist is an amatuer. For the piccolos, it's piccoloist. My teacher's a piccoloist at a Ballet Symphony so I should know that at the least.

xD Our band director got a woodwind tutor and we each have a private lesson every two weeks. Right now, we're actually working on improving our tone. xD What we do is called a diaphragm study. Start on high G, about 100 BPM. Play high G (whole note) slurred to high F sharp (whole note). Take a breath. High F sharp (whole) to high F (whole). And go all the way down the chromatic scale that way. I've only done it a few times and it really helped to improve my tone already. whee

aw, thanks a whole bunch ^__^ I think my biggest problem is I need to be able to hold my breath longer and/or not use so much air on one note...but I guess that's something you can only accomplish through practice, huh? sweatdrop

Breathe out slowly and evenly too. xp

You should fill your stomach with air. I had to do that too. Now, I can go for 4-5 measures without breathing. Well, if the song's Andante, I doubt it, but you know somewhere between Moderato and Allegro

I play Flute! My flute is my baby! There are only two flutes in my band. The other besides me is a cool Korean girl who hates green for some odd reason. The band director wears green a lot just to bug her. :p We've actually gotten most of the band to start calling her greeney. ^_^
