The bard walks up to the guards and they ask. "You got business in the castle?" "I'm here for the mercenary job." he flashes the pass the king gave him, "I believe this is proof of my employment." "Yeah, your companion was here just a little bit ago." The two guards lower their weapons and open the door to the castle. You notice that the king's thrown room is directly behind the door. The chamber is richly decorated with tapestries and oddities from various areas, making the conditions of the area around the castle even more apparent.
"Ah, I see you're back" the king says from his thrown, "The door on your right leads to the rooms you will be staying in. You should find them...adequate. Who is this, that you've brought with you? I don't remember hiring an elf to work for me." he says "elf" as if it's some loathsome curse.

"Very well then," the king says, "I'm afraid I haven't prepared servent's quarters for you, though."
"That's quite alright, your majesty." the bard says quickly as he leaves for the door before more questions can be asked.
The door opens up onto a massive room with a fireplace in the middle flanked by two doors. There's a table set up in the middle, with four seats around it. Cy is sitting in one seat, with Setna at his side. He has his pack on the other side of his chair.

I walk into the room right after the bard and sit down on one the chairs. Hello Cy, good fights today?

"It certainly was exciting, but the fight was between a summoner and an evocationer," Cy explains, "I was never a big fan of mage fights. I'm more interested in swordplay and martial arts."

Mage fights can get pretty dull at times. I nod in agreement. Of course the best ones are when they mix it up and have balanced groups tackle it out.

"I have a feeling they were having trouble finding competitors." Cy admits, "From what I heard, these guys had been fighting for the last 3 matches. The other competitors are apparently out from injuries. I can see how, though. Apparently this city doesn't make the fighters hold back in the interest of preserving their lives. One of the mages nearly died."

Really thats horriable, but I guess the city doesn't care for its peoples well being.

"No, they've made that painfully obvious." Cy says with disgust, "Even the humans, which they clearly favor, live in squalor. Here the king lives in luxury, I can't imagine how he can live with himself."

He can live with himself blindly with a stomach full of the finest food and a body clothed in the finest materials.

"If we weren't employed by him, I'd suggest we plan a coup." the bard says.
"I'd gladly participate" Cy answers, "maybe we can recruit his daughter over to our side, if she's not too far gone."

Maybe that'll work and I doubt we'd be hated if we succeded.

"It's possible," Cy says, "but I wouldn't bet on the guards allowing such a thing to happen in the first place. We'd probably have to get the king on his own so that he can't sic his guards on us."
