1: Maybe the apparatus is already ready to go! You jump optimistically into a glider and tilt your weight forward. The glider slides towards the edge - and you get a really bad feeling...

3: You find a crank and wind up the launch apparatus... you think. You turn the crank until it can turn no more, then hop into the glider. Upon detecting your weight, the launcher trembles, but something inside the machinery goes ping and all the tension flows out of the machine. Maybe you wound it up too tight?
