A smirk. "You know, I never was quite fond of mutts." He cocked the hammer of the pistol, aiming it for the creature's head with a plan to take him out like Ol' Yeller, when lights started bursting and miasma began to fill the air.
Hissing, Lex abandoned his aim and just started to shoot at the overgrown fox.

TORGUS THE WAR HORSEMAN SHIN KICKER IS RETURNING 30 FEAR TO THE ORB!
The explosion was as terrifying as it was beautiful.
The surge of FEAR, the power was quickly dampened the sudden, hollow pang of lost. Torgus had been lucky - a few of his friends and his loved ones had been spared grisly fates when the horseman isles fell. Even so, the anguished cries of many others who hadn't been as fortunate echoed across his mind. Blood-chilling screams. A caucaphony Torgus had struggled for a long time to forget.
He felt stronger, yes, but... Hollowed out. Empty. His dagger fell to the ground, and he staggered toward the shattered globe, reaching out for it with his hand. With an exhale, he released it; all the FEAR he'd gained plus the excess the orb had lent him. All the painful fragments of memory.
He didn't want to remember. It had been so much easier to forget.
He grunted as another hunter assaulted him. He felt slowed, dulled by the sudden loss of fear, but relieved all the same.

Mei practically snorted at the horsemen's words. "So I've been told." She grinned, stepping toward him once again. Thanks to Caelius' eye opener, and every other little bit of information she had gathered, she knew that the horsemen were far from good. She was slightly amused by the fact that he was telling her to stand aside as they attacked the hunters. If she had wanted to do that, she wouldn't have stepped in to stop him. "No, I'm afraid I'm not sympathetic to your 'cause, and I won't be standing by."
"Y-yeah." She replied to Gale as he asked. It was likely she wouldn't have the same answer if it wasn't for all of them aiding her.
Thanks to Gale's defense in place of Ceres', the axe thrown was deflected by the death hunter's shield. She had half a mind to flip the horsemen the bird. "You so sure about that?" she asked, as she spoke of death, and returning. "Sounds to me the rest of your clan--you know, the ones that got blown up--are living in a hell, never to return as you claim!" She spat back at the horsemen. It probably wasn't wise to piss them off further, but she had had it with their constant speech of 'revenge'.

MENGYAO IS RETURNING +10 FEAR TO THE ORB
He cared little for Medea, or her various speeches to them, all things considered, but the FEAR that called to him - the voices were familiar to him, brushing at the edges of his consciousness like a whisper.
And the power...it was there for him to grasp, just a short distance away, just a breath to grab and to hold. He could have it for his own.
"Oh, so tiny, so unknowing." She snorted, shaking her body out as it felt like the energy from the broken orb filled her, stomping her paws a few time in irritation. "I don't want it." she growled, looking back towards the pieces of the orb, taking a deep breath as a slow billow of fog - shaped like a hand - billowed from her mouth, back towards the pieces.
She wanted power, but she wanted her own power.
But with that done, she turned back to Mimsy, tilting her head at the huntress before snapping at one of her arms, attempting to clamp her jaws around the girl's wrist with a snarl.

...Mmm, now this was interesting, wasn't it? The young woman stood and watched the conversation between one of the horsemen and a student with interest, cocking her head to the side. Weren't they supposed to be on the same side? Or at least, the majority of the students she had seen seemed to be siding with the horsemen, but this girl...
Well, it was just kind of nice seeing someone who could empathize with their concerns and reasons for fighting. Not all of Deus Ex was crazy and hostile, after all.
Without warning, Eva moved to stand beside Mei, one hand on her hip while the other was wrapped firmly around Chara. "I think I like you," She declared without warning, turning to grin at the girl for a moment before her gaze slid back to the horsemen. "You don't mind if I interrupt, do you?"

Ying sighed with relief as hunters fell, the satisfying noise of cracked bodies, slumping figures.
A red-headed ghoul came from nowhere, spouting harm and foulness at her brother. Could she not see they were tired? Could she not see her brother was falling to pieces here and now?
"We fight for your people, WE SPILL OUR BLOOD FOR YOU," she shouted, throwing herself in front of Jing. In a much quieter, more hurt voice, she said, "He is injured, and he is my brother. You will not touch him." Absolutely hostility stung in her eyes. She would kill Mei there and now if that was what it took.

Admittedly, Lifen did not get dragged behind very often in the throws of battle - it just seemed that it was not her lucky day. Running in, bow already drawn, she caught the all out-and-out just in time to see the display in front of them, between the Hunter and Medea - the leader of a sort that she wasn't entirely keen on - and the smashing of the orb that seemed to just ooze hurt and sadness, making her feel a somewhat . . . keen sense of loss. A voice at her side that made her feel . . terrible.
Walking up to the taller horseman she had previous lost, she decided there and then - the wails of the orb were too near to her - she had not been in the battle long enough to feel the difference between normal strength and this true strength, and the change it would affect them, if she were to fight.
It was behind her now, the intent to assist in the battle, and sighing softly, she allowed a bit of the fear that she felt coursing through her very being to return back to the orb.

She could only stare dumbfounded as the cursed sun leader cut the orb in half, releasing all of the fear contained inside. Jay reached for the broken sphere as she once again heard voices that belonged to those long since dead. The warrior felt the extra fear and she soaked it in, and for a moment she felt dearly tempted to selfishly use it to take her anger out on the hunters, but the orb was calling for the lost fear. “I’ll give it to you,” whispered Jay.

Ryan for the most part had been able to avoid and evade any serious damage and aside from the occasional cut, bruise, and the damage already done, he was unharmed. but after waking from--what he would have called a nightmare, he found he was alone again. In fact, during the chaos he had managed to lose sight of both Eva and Wilson. He had thought he had caught a glimpse of the latter, but before he could reach him the blast from the orb hit, knocking him back and to the ground again. Back, where it just so happened to be close be close to where the orb was laying.
That orb... From what he could tell it was both dangerous and precious to the horsemen--to that priestess. But more importantly it was, for the moment, unguarded.
Maybe, if he could just--
Ryan scrambled back to his feet. A look of determination on his face as seized hold of a rock and approached the broken object.
If he could just destroy this then--

MMUR IS STANDING THERE
He fought, but again, no one was brought down by his attacks alone. When the orb cracked, he was stunned. The horseman stood motionless, the Fear thrumming through his body. He didn't want to let it go. Not yet.
Mmur's eyes fluttered shut. He didn't notice the hunter-child with the rock.
