Ehehe, yes! I've missed everyone as well! *huggles her favorite tech monkey* Gosh dangit, I've been deprived of this li'l no-pay-slave-all-day publication for far too long, lol. So where's Serieve and Jahoclave? The HQ just doesn't feel the same without the usual suspects. And I haven't even met half the new staffies yet, eep! *tosses some cookies in the air as a peace offering* Pleased to meet y'all!

Anyway, there are tons of new things I want to try in the coming months to make the 'zine even bigger and better than it already is! Don't forget, people! It's world domination or bust, lol. xp ...Right? *crickets chirp*

Ahem, anywho. stare How's this month's issue coming along? Anything I can do to help? *twaddles teh thumbs*

Sereive and Jaho have been around. They're intermittent. They comment on everything every day, and then they leave for a week. Don't worry. You'll see 'em.

-eyes glaze over as she imagines being a "usual suspect"-

Ah well, something to shoot for.

Anyway, as far as I know, the current submission thread is still out here, there aren't a WHOLE lot of entries, but at least we didn't have to bribe people with free rum.

Also, between the...eh..four or five of us, we came up with a brilliant scheme for world domination I MEAN a new feature for paid subscribers.

The funnies!

(As Sereive put it: "A bonus could be the funnies section. We would have some funnies in the upcoming publisc issue, where we also announced the mini shop idea. Then we would hold the funnies for ransom. If you ever want to read the funnies again, give me 975g.")

Also...lemme think...we tossed around ideas for a holiday issue, and I made some holiday headers that match the original layout pretty well.

OH. And we got our first fanmail.

...yeah that's all I can think of right now. You'd have to get Sereive on the horn for a full status report, because I'm just here to help.

...What do I have to do to get a story published with one chapter an issue?

Namely, this one:

I think you put it in the submissions thread wherever that is... I dunno, I still contend that I don't work here.

And yes, I've just been wasting everybody's lovely tax dollars so that I can waste up to six hours of my day for free. And the thing that pisses me off about the whole thing is that gifted gets screwed because the mental ward gets all the ******** special education money directed towards them because these parents b***h and moan that their kids need to be treated just like everybody else and refuse to accept that their kids are never going to amount to much. So instead we waste all our money on the dredge of society rather than focusing it on the best and brightest who could possibly go on and cure these god damn diseases... Of course we've decided that we'd like to make biology illegal nowdays... scream

And in general school makes me a rather pissy person.
PostPosted: Fri Aug 19, 2005 5:29 pm

...I agree with that. 3nodding Society spends WAY too much money on the people who will amount to nothing, and ignore the people who could use it the most. If people have no desire to succeed, they shouldn't be given any money.

((Where's the submissions thread? o.O I can't find it.))

Aha! A money makin' scheme, eh? Alice likes! Although, do we have any artists signed up for that yet? Or do we still need to scout for some? As for the holiday issue, do you guys have any details on that yet? Maybe we could do some kind of artistic presentation of all the Best of Issue winners from the 2005 issues. I think a bit of creative nostalgia would be neat for the holidays. What do you guys think?

OH. And we got our first fanmail.

Yay! If possible, why don't we publish it in the next issue... We could include a reader's feedback section where people can offer comments and crit, you know?

P.S. I read that you created a header for us! 3nodding Does this make you another resident graphics guru that I can bother from time to time? *wiggles eyebrows*

>< I have to decide whether or not I enjoy being so predicatble. Teaches me to reply to PMs before visiting HQ.

But now I feel as if something can be done! domokun If I could spare a moment from all that is reality. And I think I can. First day of school in a new state was seriously a piece of cake. Act as if you're a native, and no one knows the difference until you tell it to them. 3nodding One who is determined not to be intimidated, can't be.

And my Spanish teacher complimented me on my accent. My English accent. Said it was "Better than the usual Arkansas accent, no offense to Arkansans." Which means my ego should be shot down immediately, but so far there's only my relatives to inflate it. neutral

P.S. Rednal: Click here for submissions. Be sure to read the new policy, which means unfortunately that the only piece we're allowing to be published chapter by chapter is Badger Brigade by Fandango. Others have their first chapter published with a link/contact source for the readers who wish to delve further.

(And for my sanity and saved milliseconds, I'm putting the outer contest link here too.)

Alicemae: We tried to get an actual comic strip funny artist (didn't work out), but what we really had in mind was little anecdotes, or short and funny stories. The kind you can sometimes find in chain mails with no traceable author? Yeah, those. Actually I posted one a few pages back. Here:

Serieve
A couple had two little boys, ages 8 and 10, who were excessively mischievous. The two were always getting into trouble and their parents could be assured that if any mischief occurred in their town, their two young sons were in some way involved. The parents were at their wits end as to what to do about their sons' behavior. The mother had heard that a clergyman in town had been successful in disciplining children in the past, so she asked her husband if he thought they should send the boys to speak with the clergyman. The husband said, "We might as well. We need to do something before I really loose my temper!"

The clergyman agreed to speak with the boys, but asked to see them individually. The 8 year old went to meet with him first. The clergyman sat the boy down and asked him sternly, "Where is God?" The boy made no response, so the clergyman repeated the question in an even sterner tone. "Where is God?"

Again the boy made no attempt to answer. So the clergyman raised his voice even more and shook his finger in the boy's face. "WHERE IS GOD?"

At that, the boy bolted from the room and ran directly home, slamming himself in the closet. His older brother followed him into the closet and asked, "What happened?" The younger brother replied, "We are in BIG trouble this time. God is missing and they think we did it!"

Congrats on making it through your first week! I had a hard time at my HS even without the whole new-kid-on-the-black syndrome, but -- like you said -- just feel comfortable with yourself, and you can be stronger than your surroundings. *have a cookie* Hehe!

Haha, congrats on that as well... sweatdrop If it makes you feel any better, I took three years of espanol and all I can remember are the basic greetings and that snazzy line from the Taco Bell pup. 3nodding

Alicemae Sadly Presents...

THE TO DO LIST OF DOOM, DUN-DUN-DUN!
sweatdrop

Holy Mother of Guppies, I know this looks like a lot of work! But stay with me on this, heheh. I promise that we won't be doing all of this at once! It's just a guideline of sorts for where we'll be heading in the next few months. Hopefully. *gulp*

(1) Prep Work
- Select and scout submissions, last minute revisions, editing, etc. from August 25 - 27.
- Voting for BoI begins August 28 - 29.

(2) Publication Date, August 30
- Self explanatory.

(3) Fall Cleaning, ASAP
- I think our guild forum is starting to look a little cluttered, so let's delete some of the dead threads to make way for new ideas. Maybe re-organize some sections along the way to make things easier for the staffies as well! Let me know what threads should stay or go.

(4) Recruiting, ASAP
- Let's keep a look out potential staffies in the Writing Forum. I'll post an ad for staff recruitment once I tweak the current application a bit. What kind of people do you guys think we need the most? Scouts? Techies? Please share your thoughts!

(5) Mini-Shop Idear
- Let's discuss how we're going to do this! So far, Serieve has informed me that the cost will be 975g a year, and the talented Araia shall be in charge of all teh graphics, yes? Here's what we still need to figure out...
- Who will keep track of the subscribers and send out the issues each month? My only concern is that the issues will be too long for regular PMs, so it might be easier to just send a notice linking to the issue published in the Writing Forum. Of course, we'll have to come up with some more special benefits for subscribers if they're still expected to pay the 975g.
- We should list the subscribers on thepress account as friends. This way we can send out one notice to everyone in one go! Yay!

(6) Create Archive of Issues
- I'm willing to take charge of this since I've acquired some web space on my dad's Cox account. Hopefully, Kraeela will be able to help me with some of the trickier coding... *pokes teh Kraeela*

(7) Special Holiday Issue, 12.31.05
- Araia mentioned something about a holiday issue to me earlier, and I thought it was a great idea! Did you guys have anything in mind yet? Adding on to anything you may have planned, maybe we could also post the past BoI entries and have Araia create a little graphic to accompany the piece. It'll be a nice way of mixing something old and something new to celebrate TGP's survival through 2005, lol.
- Also, we can host another scavenger word hunt and give out prizes to our loyal and most thorough readers since it is, after all, the season of giving! wink As always, let me know your thoughts!

RANDOM THOUGHTS
- Let's add a new section! The pending title is Dear Staffies and this is where we'll post any feedback such as fanmail or critiques from readers.
- Another new section! This one's pending title is The Review and obviously we'll be reviewing everything from books to music to anime. This is my way of branching beyond the Writing Forum into the other forums. Good idea, yes?
- Let me know if y'all have any thought bubbles of your own to share! Thanks, hehe.
- P.S. I'm terrible at naming things. For the sake of our readers, please help me brainstorm something better than The Review! sweatdrop
- Kudos to Clavy, the next Staff Spotlight will feature short bios and real life pics of all the staffies!
- New contest idea! Write a short story that only involves a dialogue between two characters. No descriptions, sentences, or prose may be used outside of the conversation. You cannot even use dialogue openers such as "he said" or "she whispered," etc. Readers must be able to read between the lines and distinguish the characters and plot by themselves. Aside from these restrictions, any genre or length of writing will be accepted!

Hey I'm Poco the new scout. I think this is a great Idea. I'm bad with names to but if "The Review" has a video game section I'd be willing to write even though I'm a scout. Oh P.S. any bad spelling I have in the forums over the next few days is due to injured hands from karate or me typing fast because Im in a rush I'll be good in a few days though. Sorry.

Welcome to the HQ, Poco! I'm not sure if we'll be able to have The Review ready by this month, but we'll definitely include it in the next issue. Can you have something prepared by then? wink And video games are fine by me, in case you were wondering! Sorry I didn't include it in the schedule. sweatdrop

Sure thing. Next month is fine I have to wait a few days to start. I need to look up a few things and wait for my gaming stuff to come in the mail then I can have it done in a few days. Any particular length that you want.

*mops up after Poco*

Greetings.

And I've strangely adopted a habit of mopping....with a purple mop, of course. And I've finally gotten my college schedule all figured out and, wonder of wonders, I have oh so much time on my hands!

So I'll be here a load more often than a social life would like me to. xd

So good to have you back!

Any length is fine by me, hehe, it's totally up to you. Just keep the review informative and entertaining, and I'll be one happy camper. 3nodding Thanks for offering to do this...
