"Don't order me, just wait a second." Saya was uncharacteristically tense, due to the recent events, unable to understand why Ofelia couldn't retain some tact. Sandy had just died and she wanted to open up the flashlight like a child's toy. Saya kept her grip on the flashlight tight, her hand moving in rotating motions as she unscrewed the flashlight.

A sense of curiosity, overwhelmed by dread and anxiety, caused her to fumble once near the end, the lid dropping neatly into her palm.

It didn't feel as heavy as batteries should feel, did it?

A single USB flash drive pops out of the flashlight: it would take going back to Deus Ex to figure out what was inside it, however.

OOC

- The return home: all trainees can now return home or if they wish, stay to investigate longer, though these seem to be no other real important articles left behind.
- For completing this mission, and AT LEAST getting through the gauntlet run with the boss, you get +3 rp points and +1 if you went over 800 words. If you didn't do the gauntlet run but you did everything else, that's +2 rp points and +1 for over 800 words.
- ALSO, don't forget to submit a Mission Report! You can get +1 rp points for filling one out!
- Feel free to post any lingering reaction posts before exiting

THE USB Flash Drive:

- For anyone curious about it, upon using the flash drive, it grants trainees remote access to a strange section of the information archives. The area however, is blocked by a password, though trainees may remember four distinct notes....
- For anyone who unlocks the password and accesses the information, they are free to make a solo, PRP OR ORP reaction post regarding it! They can also, if they wish, contact an NPC for further questions (just use this here )

Full ORP Summary

- Trainees received a text from Caelius detailing a mission: upon arriving two Hunters named Sandy and Barney assisted the trainees in getting ready to recover tablets, weapons in their dormant forms, from a Horsemen Lair. The actual mission is to recover an Artifact fragment, using the trainees as decoys, as the first mission to the exact same Lair ended up in failure due to a creature known as the "Beast of the Earth" that resides in the area.
- Though trainees were able to recover tablets, they also barely made it out alive when the exact creature began to pursue them, all the way to the end where the two Hunters did not make it out.
- There was noone waiting for the trainees at the exit, though they did find some items of interest in Sandy's backpack, there are, as usual, several unanswered questions.

"Ah'm not orderin' anyone, am jus' being curious." Ofelia shrugged, wondering why this person was just so suddenly snapping at her. She just asked about the flashlight, it wasn't like she was commanding her to dance around or do something dangerous - they were outside, everyone was talking, and it didn't look like the water or the snakes were coming after them. When the girl did comply and a USB came out, Ofelia's interest waned. "Errr, yeah. Tech stuff jus' ain't mah cup'o'tea so Ah'mma head on back."

Ofelia waved her hand at the girl and noticed the portal that would lead her back home. She ached from all this, the rocks and arrows not really kind even though they hadn't done damage, and she really wanted to take a nice shower and just look through the journal more. The note was confusing and she was tempted to try and learn more about it. .. . . barely tempted, but that could be considered enough in her mind.

That being said, Ofelia limped to the portal, still a bit out of breath from all the running. Snakes were cool, just not her cup of tea either.

The moment started to become very, very familiar. Robert refused to miss a moment of it, as if somehow, watching it all happen made it more real, more important. He heard Sandy scream run, and he listened - survival instincts had taken over - but he'd looked back, several times. There, a single person standing, alive, breathing, just like any of them - and a moment later, a single blink of a moment, another turn of his head as he ran for his life, and there was nothing alive to look at anymore.

He watched Barney floating in the water. He committed it to memory. Every time he watched someone die, he refused to look away. It felt important, that someone would remember, that once upon a time, a life had harbored that shell of a body. A life just like his, just like any of theirs.

And now that life was gone.

The trainees were already sorting through something left behind. Some paper, like the one they'd found on those bodies back up north, probably some clue to something they shouldn't even know about. Robert couldn't care less about what was left behind, except for the people still alive. So he moved over to the table, ignored the small grouping staring at the book, and grabbed a flare gun. He could still hear Sandy's voice telling them not to shoot them here, and Barney doing it anyway.

Maybe he just did it for them. Or maybe he did it because, when you were lost, shooting a flare gun seemed like a good idea. For whatever reason, without warning anyone of his actions, Robert held up the flare gun to the sky and shot one, loud and bright, into the air. Maybe it would save them. Maybe it would do nothing. But at the very least, it would have made Barney laugh.

He didn't even know the guy. He'd said a handful of words, and taken his phone -

Oops.

Robert felt through his pockets, and plucked out the phone that he'd forgotten to give back to Barney. He flipped it open, and started going through the pictures idly. Cats, cats, cats.

You were a weirdo, Barney. A real weirdo. You would be missed.

The elevator started to move, the slow buildup of momentum was enough to cause Leon to wobble on his feet, arms out to keep his balance, the mental check was quick, a feeble attempt to figure out of any trainee, stray, lamb or whatnot was missing. To much of his relief, they seemed to all be accounted for as the boxer let out a sigh of relief.

Relief that soon twisted and churned into anxiety and corner when Deryk began to ask about Sandy and Barney. Green eyes flew open in shock and horror and found it hard to think. The hunters that watched out for them was missing, maybe there was a way to send the elevator back down, if they were lucky, a few could try to infiltrate the place again and find them It was worth a shot right?

The answer for the silent question in the life hunters mind came from the depth below, a horrible sound filled with a spirit that new its end was near, a horrible screeching sound of a life cut short. Any thoughts of the two seasoned individuals survival fell flat and the hope for their safety blew out like a candle. There were no words other than a few chocked back groans, a non committal sound that bubbled in the back of the brunette's throat. It was harder to hide his fist that was clenched and visibly shaking in a mixture of regret, fear, anger and sadness.

Nid spent a lot of his time trapped in a knuckleheads body either taunting, ridiculing, teasing or mostly arguing with his human partner. It helped to pass the day, especially when one didn't have he freedom to walk on its own four dragon feet under the pumpkin sun. However, even the Norse dragon had his own moments of concern for its vessel. The cool rumble of the boil's voice flowed through leon's brain like a parent animal, nurturing its child.

"What's done is done, it cannot be changed. They might have died, and it may have been a shame for that to happen, but you are still alive." it spoke, softly, without malice or a hint of humor in his voice. "We are still alive, with a chance to change things wyrmling. We shall not be consumed." Nid continued, his deep tone resonating with Leon's heart like a pair of wings erupted to envelop the boxer in a shield of membranes and lightweight bones. it was the closest thing to being around family again, the family that was from another life. "We shall consume everything first, everything within our way, you and I, and bury he remnants of our allies and enemies, together. For now you must calm down though Wyrmling."

Leon, honestly had nothing to say to that, other than nod blankly at the voice that no one else could hear and keep his emotions in check. "Right, there's no leader here, its best to calm down and think, before someone flies off the handle and does something foolish."

Like Robert shooting off a flare that might give away our location to an enemy. Oh Robert, why?

Saya glanced down at the usb in her hand with a quizzical stare. What .. Did Deus have computers for them to enter this into? When they got back, probably.. Saya stepped into the portal, absent-mindedly, staring at the usb in her hand.

Rep didn't stick around long after the others emerged safe and sound. He wanted out of this jungle. Wanted back to the island where he could pretend all of this was just a horrible nightmare. He didn't even notice the commotion about the notepad and flashlight, when it looked like no one was ever going to come, and tired of being bitten by bugs, he turned to Rin.

"I'll.. catch you later."

And without another word, he strode off out of the portal.

He left without saying a single word to anyone, Gale's coat fluttering behind him as he strode silently towards the portal, his face drawn and pale, fingers trembling. With a flash of light the rifle in his hand dissipated into nothingness, and Gale stepped into the portal that would take him back to headquarters.

Sherry continued towards the portal, slightly shaking her head as other hung around. Sherry could understand why they might, but it didn't change the facts. Hunters had died so they could live. While Sherry was grateful, she knew dwelling on things would only make her feel worse than she already did.

Is that what this is? Sherry wasn't sure how she felt about it. But. She knew she needed a shower and she wanted to get the paperwork out of the way asap. So, she didn't hang around.

Izy prompted, and she moved instinctively, following his instructions as she dealt with her stress. They had died. So easily. For her. For all of them.

She was going to go home, take a shower, and think on the life she had chosen.

He'd only waited because Eva might, and to make sure Reine was around. Still, the muggy night and waning light light of day was getting his nerves back up. "I ain't stickin round.." He muttered nervously to Eva, turning and exiting out the Portal.

No more dark spaces for him. No getting caught out at night, and no more cold, wet caves of nightmare beats.

Otto would have to deal with his own nightmares now.

It seemed they had enough people to hold down the portal from this side, and a small group had found things out by the table. Going through Sandy's things, were they? Well, perhaps there was something in there that would help them, something that Sandy would've wanted them to take.

When Robert, one of the older Life trainees, shot off the flare gun, Vanessa almost felt the desire to salute to the bright light in the sky. She'd imagine it was a tribute to them, to the two amazing hunters they lost on this mission. She simply watched it travel up into the sky, nodding to it and desummoning Volt. He reformed into the softly glowing lantern pendant, shining like a single, tiny star.

Quietly, she turned to the portal and slipped out. Once she was back on Deus grounds, she had some bones pieces to bury.

Jordan was once again one of the last through the portal. Sandy and Barney were gone; it fell on the intermediates to be sure all the less experienced trainees made it home.

Before he stepped through, he looked back towards the lair, said a silent, wordless prayer, and crossed himself; it was more an automatic reflex than any conscious thought, but if there were any benevolent God in the heavens, he hoped that that God would forgive his doubts and his fears, welcome the lost back to Himself. Certainly, if anyone deserved reward, it was the Hunters who had consciously, willingly sacrificed themselves to see the rest of them home.

Dillon was physically and mentally spent. The fact that they had casualties wasn't registering just yet. He couldn't pretend he was okay. Just ... numbness ...

<< It's alright, let's go home >>

Wordlessly, he stepped through the portal ... back to where it all began.
