I had those same concerns--and that reminds me, I was going to make a sticky about it, WHOOPS--and most articles I read said it was ok to ask for anything you need for baby, items to pamper mom, even film and batteries for cameras. Very little is off limits. 3nodding

Luna, like the other gals said, you can register for anything-from diapers and wipes to cribs and gliders. If you're breastfeeding, you can even add breastfeeding supplies like breast pads and pumps. I believe that on the BRU online registry, you could also add comments about your registry. In those comments, you can tell what the nursery theme is or other details that would be helpful to people buying stuff for you and the baby.

Okay, my friends were teasing me about this. I thought I didn't need a lot of stuff, but then you realize it's been 4 years since you've dealt with a newborn and things have changed! It's just new territiory for me. I really appreciate all the help with this.

I guess I was avoiding BRU because this particular one here, my friend used to work there and I want to slap the manager, but I remembered Target had some insanely stupid return policies as well. I did like the fact that you could also do the BRU online, so I guess it's a no-brainer on this one. I figured I'd go today and get it started.

I never had any problems at Target, but I've heard that alot of people have had problems with them. You might want to check about BRU's return policy, too. If you have to have a receipt for everything, it can make things difficult. I've heard that BRU was planning on changing their policies on returning stuff. I'm not sure where else you can register.

Luna-I know I'm a little late in replying, but I did my baby registry at Walmart. I didn't even know there might have been do's/don'ts od baby registries so I just put everything we'd need on there. I plan on doing a registry at BRU too, but I like doing registries at place like Walmart simply because it a national chain that everyone can get to and mostly afford. BTW, I use sugarless Koolaid in my water just so I can get the amount I need, I haven't tried crystal light yet though.

Pirate - Yeah I know the numbers are scary, I think that's why she put me on a stricter bed rest. lol, I wasn't counting on everyone else in my life keeping on top of the bed rest thing either. Its like I'm useless around here, I don't like it much.

Now I remember everyone telling me if I even thought there might be a problematic issue between me and my doctor to look into getting a new one. I love my OB, at this point I really wouldn't be very comfortable with anyone else; however I can't say the same for her nursing staff. Its virtually impossible to talk to anyone between doctor's visits, so I end up leaving messages and getting calls returned days later. And I'm constantly feeling like I'm just kinda being pushed around by everyone until I get in with my doctor and then it's all fine.

Should I still look into a new doctor or do I just stick with her?

To me the nursing staff is just as important as the OB. You tend to see more of them than the OB. Plus, if they aren't getting back to you in a timely matter when you call, that can be a huge problem. The nurses at my OB were great. I always got called back within a couple of hours, at most, when I called and would take time to answer any questions I had.

ITA with Ritz. A problem though is that you HAVE to speak up. When in doubt, ask for another nurse or to speak to a supervisor if you have an issue. If you get survey forms, fill those out. If you don't say anything, then nothing will change.

I can tell you with Walmart you'll be good if you're located in the south. Not so much for other locals so if you have relatives far and wide, Walmart might not be the best.

I do know I've lived in both Jax Fl and WA and been nearby Targets.

The closest Walmart here is a 30-45 minute drive, and we live in Tacoma.

People here HATE Walmart. With a passion, a deep deep deeeeeep passion.

Me I'd like them to just let them build one closer already so I can do some cheap shoppin'. xd

I will talk to my OB about it at my next doctor's appt if I can't get ahold of anyone before then.

Nopen- Really? When I lived in WA I didn't notice that people hated Walmart. I know it wasn't the most convienent to get to, at least not as convienent as Fred Meyer and Target, but I never noticed that people hated Walmart so much. But I do know people down south love it. ^_^ I used to live in P'Cola, FL, and its definently a popular store down south.

Okay my most recent question, has anyone had to deal with a stomach flu while being pregnant? Cuz the "cold" medicines I've been taking to help such as Tylenol Cold hasn't been working and I can't hold anything down except water. So I'm curious to see if anyone has any ideas for me.

:-O I cannot believe anyone would hate walmart!! I freakin loved it!!! Actually, thinking about it, I have heard about it being a money making empire, with no respect for the environment. But I can't say that would put me off....not when there are so many other money crazy companies!

The thing which shocked me the most (and the best!) was the amount of ice cream. The biggest selection of ice cream I have ever seen. And Ice cream is my heaven. *dribble*

Man, I wish we had a walmart. Stupid england.

Heh I lived in the South all my life, I know SOOOO many people who hate Walmart. *shrugs* Maybe the whole banning men's magazines (but keeping crap like Cosmo), hiring illegals, taking over small business are a few reasons why people have good reason to hate Walmart. wink Luckily, I live in a big enough city, there's like 5 Walmarts within a 30 minute drive, but still they don't always have some stuff. Although I will say it SUCKS not having a Kmart because I LOVE their baby stuff.

I thought about Walmart, but eh I decided against it because they didn't have some of the things I need for my registry and I really like that even if someone doesn't have a BRU, they can look up the registry online (through amazon), which really sold me. So, I got over my hate of this particular manager and I'm going today, lol.

Cold medicines aren't going to do anything for a flu, which a stomach bug is an extremely general term and often misdiagnosed. I had gasteroenteritis earlier in this pregnancy where I couldn't keep anything down, not even ice chips, so a couple days of phenegran it was and rest (had to go to the ER for that one yippie!). Cold medicines will help with symptoms, but usually it's runny nose, cough, etc. not vomitting or diahrrea.

Hikari: Most "stomach flus" or "24 hour flus" are caused by Rotoviruses...virii...whatever.

They're the number one cause of viral gastroenteritis and are pretty much what most people have if they have vomiting or diarreha or both (and can also include a mild fever or headache and other mild symptoms).

What I was told when our family got the last bout of it going around (they're highly contagious being that antibacterial soaps and stuff do nothing to affect them, you can wash your hands to cut down on the possibility of infection but it's difficult) was that you can't take anything. If you're an adult you can take immodium (which is safe, I believe during part of pregnancy check out http://www.safefetus.com) for diarreha but I'm not sure what you can take for vomiting.

you just have to try to keep whatever fluids/foods you can down is what I was told about with my daughter.

My gosh! Its amazing, my OB's office finally called me back.....well after about 5 messages. But hey they called back, they want me to go aheasd and go to a clinic up by my house. So that's where I'm heading when AJ gets home from work.

Right now I'm just trying to keep as much water in me as possible. I remember reading that water can flush a virus out of your system, so I'm just taking cold meds for the symptoms (runny nose, cough, etc) and trying to keep a lot of water in me. Unfortunately, its not making me feel much better.

I was never a big fan of Kmart, yeah their stuff was cute but everything falls apart so easily. They don't have the best quality of things, in my experience.

I know for a while down south people hated Walmart when they came out with "Self checkouts" buz so many people lost their jobs, but that was also nation wide. I think everyone hated Walmart for that. But after a while, paying more at other stores (Target, Kmart, etc) made people go back to Walmart.

Yeah most of the reasons Luna said are why Walmart is hated around here.

People block them from being built by protests, no one wants the added traffic, lights and noise around their homes, they squash out local businesses, and have horrible reputations for the way they treat their employees.

My parents go to the Walmart very very early (for grocery shopping) because Dad HATES the crowds.

My husband and I used to joke about how Walmart is ALWAYS crowded, even at like 10:00 on Sunday night there is a full parking lot.

I'm starting to think that I'm just a magnent for being sick. Went to the clinic last night and not only do I have a stomach flu like I thought but I also have a sinus infection.....again. This is the third sinus infection in three months that I've had. Its really starting to annoy me.

I think its because they took me off my allergy medication. See i took Allegra D once a day every day. I've been taking it since I was 11 years old. Now my OB doesn't want me to take it anymore because it has too high a dosage of sudaphed within it; 120mg per tablet. So she put me on a regular Allegra and 1 dose of sudaphed (60mg) once a day. The pharamcies around where I live won't accept the military insurance because theydon't like how difficult it is to be paid by them. So they won't fill an over the counter prescription, and I live to far away from the base to get it filled. So I'm trying to get my doctor to write an Allegra D prescription and have me take half a pill a day, its still the amount she's saying is ok just in a different form. But I once again I can't seem to get ahold of anyone in my doctor's office to ask what they think.

That situation is really starting to annoy me. I'm so complaining at my next doctor's appt.; its ridiculous that I can't get ahold of anyone when I want to, little own when I NEED to.

I think the good things about Walmart outweigh the bad things. But thats just my opinion. We don't live close enough to the nearest military base to take advantage of the commisary and BX, so Walmart is a huge saver for us. There's 3 in my town alone.
