Aragost smiled and patted Miyu on the head affectionately.

"I would like that very much," he told her honestly.

He would probably have to get Adonai to teach him to read the Gaian letters, though. Which ... would require finding the man in the first place, which was a trick in and of itself.

Miyu smiled brightly at that, she would be most happy to do just that for him.

"I'm glad," she murmured, "Those would be fun I think."

Then maybe later when he's read more, he could tell her.. maybe.

Aragost smiled in amusement. Fun. What a concept. It was true that he enjoyed things, but he hadn't really had 'fun' in a very long time.

Meanwhile, back in the corral, Shael was finishing up her lesson with Lin and Ahren.

"I have to head back home," she said apologetically to the children, "and I can't come back this afternoon ... perhaps we can continue tomorrow morning, when I come again?"

Ahren grinned and hopped off the fence, outside the corral. "Okay," he nodded happily. "Then we can do other stuff this afternoon, right, Lin?"

He looked up at her eagerly. Truth be told, he had been rather fidgety for the last little while, bored listening to the things that he already knew, and he was eager to go off and do something else.

"Right," Lin nodded.

At least... she thought she should be able to, even though she knew she was just heaping more things onto her plate of things to do.

"See you tomorrow Shael!"

As Shael started to bring the horse back to the paddock, Ahren beckoned eagerly to Lin.

"Come on, it's nearly time for lunch!" he urged her. "Let's go inside and wash so we can eat!"

He held one hand up to her to help her down from the fence.

Lin took his hand before hopping down from the fence. Now that he had mentioned it she was getting hungry.

"Oh yea... I didn't notice before."

Ahren grinned. "Well, that's just because you were listening really good," he told her. "I already know all that stuff so it was kind of boring for me. I bet Mama's got something good to eat, though!"

Rather than concentrating on the lesson, he had been daydreaming about what they might be having.

"Well at least you didn't fall asleep, it would have been a long way down, well not that long, but I wouldn't want to fall off the fence," Lin murmured.

She began to head in the direction of the Ranch house.

Ahren laughed.

"I haven't fallen off the fence since I was just little," he grinned at Lin as he walked beside her. "I learned early that it hurt way too much to do it all the time. Besides, it's not as tall to me as it used to be. Someday I'll even be taller than it, if I get tall like Mama and Papa!"

He poked her arm. "You too, if you end up tall like your papa."

She hoped so, she already had seen how troublesome it was to be short, at least she thought it was troublesome.

"I hope so, it would be good to be as tall as Daddy," she replied, "You'll probably be taller than the fence, nearly everyone around here is very tall."

Ahren nodded. "Yeah, they are ... but that's just because we're kids. Once we're older we'll be taller, and then they won't seem as tall."

He held the door open for Lin to go in first.

"Besides," he added, "Mama says it doesn't matter how tall someone is, all that matters is that we should be happy with how we are."

Lin could live with that, thinking over what Ahren said.

As long as no one called her cute.

She stepped in and looked around to see if there was anyone here.

"We're back!"

Arwen popped out of the playroom even as Lin opened her mouth and callled out. She had white flour smudged on one cheek and on her shirt, but she grinned and waved to Lin and Ahren as they came inside.

"Hi!" she called brightly. "Welcome back! You're just in time! I just finished my picture! Come and see!"

And she beckoned for them to follow and darted back into the playroom, jumping up onto the chair where she had been working.

Ahren rolled his eyes and sighed.

"You go ahead," he told Lin. "I'm gonna wash my hands and help Mama set the table for lunch."

If it wasn't done already.

Did she... Lin wondered as she followed Arwen into the playroom make her picture or baked her picture? She had not missed the flour smudges so she couldn't help but wonder what had Arwen been up to.

"What sort of picture?"
