She had been braced for an impact, so when he did manage to dodge to the side, she barely had time to go into a position for a rolling landing to keep from hurting herself. The fireballs were coming at her as Kiran was just getting back to her feet.

It was almost pure instinct at that point, to throw up a wall of compressed air and drop down to a crouch.

Quinn felt the sudden difference in air pressure and knew immediately what would come next. A bit of an explosion, actually, just a bit. The Fire Balls met the wall of air and fell in on themselves, first imploding and then exploding. The tinders rained down on Kiran due to a comdination of the Air she created and a bit of a push from Quinn.

Quinn's next tactic wasn't pleasent, but it was necessary. He placed his hands together in the style that an Alchemist would use and then slapped them on the ground. The earth around Kiran then began to shake, shift, and move all about. It was Quinn's own little mini-earthquake. While Kiran dealt with that, Quinn made a dash for his staff.

Kiran yelped at bit as the fire came down on her, trying to jump away from the rest of the tinders but finding that the ground was refusing to stay still. She couldn't have stood and knew it, so she began to sommersault away from the epicenter of the miniquake, very aware now of the lightning bolt from earlier, as well as the stench of singed hair.

Magnolia woke up some hours later, hungry again but not feeling as detached as the last time she'd been. She cleared her throat and realized that her voice was in working order. She'd been pulled out of a pleasant dream about Magnolia's and Dorien's wedding which she wanted to have at home in the shadow of the castle or at least on some grassy knoll under a willow tree. That had been her mother's name, Willow. She smiled at the dream, Dorien didnt' seem ready for marriage and Magnolia wasn't sure she was ready either, they still needed a bit more time before they could reach that step.

Quinn reached out for his staff as he got closer, grabbing it and pulling it out of the ground as he ran. Planting it into the ground again, Quinn used the staff to stop/turn himself around. As Kiran flipped away from the epicenter of the mini-quake, he had to quickly make a decision on what to do next. He needed to get her to use more magic, to see what she could do. One of the best ways to do that was to use magic against her. Wind vs Wind, it seemed it would be.

Drawing various magical energies inward, Quinn conjured up a mini Tornado and sent it in Kiran's direction. Its movement was extremely sparactic; Quinn hoped it would make Kiran jumpy.

"Neutralize it!" Was all Quinn said.

That, she could do. One of the few things she'd learned in her training was how to conjure up winds, including miniature tornados, and how to return what she'd just done to normal. She'd never been particularly adept at it, but she was capable.

Kiran took a backwards course and began to spin both poi in the same direction, the opposite of the existing tornado, and then began to add wind magic to it until she felt it was about the same speed as the oncoming twister. She released it, then went around both on a beeline for Quinn. He'd never said to stop attacking.

Quinn was glad to see that Kiran could, at the very least, neutralize a wind tornado. He took note of her ability and technique, however, and knew that she would need more training there. When she came around the Tornado he was admitedly surprised, but not enough so to be caught off guard.

The poi weren't spinning any more though, and trailing as they were, Quinn would have to be careful. Spinning his staff around him, then spinning himself in a methodical, rythmical fashion, water began to form near Quinn. When Quinn stopped spinning, he pointed the head of the staff at Kiran, sending the water flying in her direction in the form of a wave.

Kiran laughed, and put on an extra burst of speed. The wave would have presented a problem were it higher than her waist, but at the current height it was a simple enough task to leap over it. Her footing wasn't as sure on the wet ground, so she slowed down and started a wide circle around Quinn. He had her cautious, not wanting to outrightly attack him again.

"You're hesitating. Something wrong?" Quinn mocked Kiran for not attacking him directly a second time. He wanted her too, but if she was smart she wouldn't do it. Quinn knew that, and mocking her was a key test. Can she keep a level head in combat? It was hard to say, "You could have had me easily."

Quinn started his dance a second time, this time moving a bit faster, making a bit more water, getting things a bit more wet. The next wave sent in Kiran's direction was still waste high, but faster and much more spread. It would be much harder to avoid.

With a growl she tried to send a blade of air into the wave to separate it, though it did nothing more than create a dimple on the surface of the water. She didn't have the time to build the momentum to jump over it outright again, so instead she went into a low stance and waited for it to come to her. Kiran dove through the wave, and in the process lost one of the poi, though came out of the other side unharmed, if dripping.

Clearly letting him have the distance allowed him to use his magic more effectively. Her mind was made, she began a zig-zag charge, her center of gravity low.

"Close the gap and make the magic harder to use." Quinn mumbled under his breath, "She's learning."

Quinn knew that once the battle got in close, it would be over. He was a mage, she was not. Quinn was skilled, but not enough to fight close quarters with someone. He wasn't skilled enough yet. He began to prepare one of his harder spells in the back of his mind, the Shadow Stop. It was a combination of Light and Dark, both combined used to freeze a person's shadow.

For a side spell, Quinn began throwing more lightning bolts at Kiran. Everything was wet now, so the electricity would do more damage than before. It was worth a shot for distraction's sake, at the very least.

With everything being wet, her footing wasn't as solid as it was before. She did manage to dodge the first bolt at the expense of hitting the ground and hard, allowing the second time to hit her. Wincing Kiran picked herself up, throwing a wall of compressed air towards Quinn as she moved to gain enough time to get up close.

The wall of air came at Quinn faster than he expected and pushed him back several feet. Due to all the wetness, he too lost his footing and fell. Kiran was getting closer with every second, so Quinn scrambled back to his feet and into a defensive stance.

Kiran came at Quinn with a kick at about waist height, and cocked her shoulder back to wrap the chain of the poi around his neck as soon as she saw an opening in his defense. Her muscles were not reacting quite right, her body felt strange, probably from the electricity, and she wanted to resolve this soon.
