Children Of The Flame

Well, it'll be a long while before I see them again anyways, Gion replied shortly. So there's no point in worrying about it at the moment.

And he clammed up, wanting for a time to be alone with his thoughts.

Daemon let himself settle into sorting through other thoughts, since he was now more awake he wondered what he could see. Though it wasn't at all much and after a while it didn't make much sense anyhow.

The hours passed slowly, silently. Late in the afternoon, it began to snow again, but it was light, and there was no wind in the air, and Gion found himself actually enjoying it somewhat. He had finally grown bored of being silent - an odd thought, since he had been left mostly to himself for several years now - and his thoughts turned once more to his friend, trapped in the sword on his back.

Daemon? he thought hesitantly.

Hmm...?

Daemon was having a dream... or a vision, it was hard to tell when you were stuck in a sword, something about a pretty little girl... with wide blue eyes and black hair, and for some strange reason a nursery rhyme was going through his head.

Yes?

He mentally shook the dream off.

Gion hoped he wasn't interrupting anything.

You do know that I'm not angry with you, right? he asked. It's just ... the thought of my brothers ... and their beliefs ... that sets me off all the time ... and I didn't want to end up snapping on you ...

I know!

Daemon pipped up in a happy sort of way.

I don't blame you for being set off by that, but if you let it keep angering you it's just going to make things worse.

Sorry, Gion shrugged inwardly. If you can teach me something that would make it not make me angry, by all means please do so ... though they do deserve to have me - and many others - angry with them.

Though they do, it won't change anything.

Daemon replied back.

It doesn't mean you're not right in being angry, I'm just saying, don't let it cloud your judgement. They are still family, even if they cannot fulfil that duty, don't let that stop you from doing so.

Gion relaxed and smiled. Of course ... you're absolutely right, he agreed.

He wondered briefly how long his mother was planning on sleeping - she hadn't woken up once yet ... though he was certain she must have been very tired ...

The kitten on Gion's shoulder squirmed a bit. Serenity was waking up from her sleep, and she stretched a bit and yawned. Then she sat up on Gion's shoulder and looked around.

She recognized where they were only by the fact that she could see the valley was a bit closer - the trees were mostly covered by snow - sitting on Gion's shoulders, she was only just below the tops of the tallest trees.

She felt much better now that she had rested. By the position of the sun, she guessed that she had slept for at least ten hours. Far longer than she usually slept: but then, she had also been far more exhausted than usual.

Now.... how are you holding up?

Daemon replied now that, that subject was done with. He hoped that Gion was still okay with the cold.

Good, Gion nodded, reaching up and scratching the kitten between the ears. Better. I think the sleep helped, anyways. But it's a lot warmer today, anyways, and it's not snowing or windy. That helps, too. How about you?

Same as usual.

Daemon repleid cheerfully at least he didn't have to worry about being cold on this trip.

That's good, Gion grinned. Not too bored, I hope ...

He wondered when he should stop for the night ... probably when it started getting dark, or when he saw a good place for a potential shelter.

Not at all.

Daemon laughed at that, he was good at keeping himself occupied for at least a few hours.
