Eli and Mutt weaved between the now familiar tombstones of the Boneyard, their direct steps seeming to carry a purpose. They trudged past the largest tombs, moving over half-way across the yard to stop beside a sad-looking wooden cross. Well... it was almost a cross. Two sticks had been tied together with a strip of leather, and the letters L-I-L-Y could barely be distinguished, roughly carved in the wood.

Eli ran his fingers along one arm of it before flopping down next to the grave. He seemed to lose himself as he stared at the ground, hands idly twirling frayed strings on his pant cuffs.

Mutt ran between the graves, nose to the ground, exploring. As dogs so like to do. His Eli-radar must have been turned on high, for he was almost immediately atop Eli once the youth had sprawled out next to the cross to watch the clouds. The mongrel rested his chin between his paws on the human's chest, and was happy to stay there. This is what the afternoons are FOR, after all!

"We've recently finished repairs on box four, you're welcome to use that; but if you really want to avoid notice watching from the wings would probably be best. If you say you're with me no one should ask questions-- oh!" Feyd stopped suddenly, touching his hand to his head in exasperation. "Of course I forgot, tonights proformance was pushed back a day, the execution and all," Feyd gave a helpless shrug.

"Execution?" Adalei asked, the concern on her face suggesting her ignorance of the situation. "Not a public one, you mean...? We haven't had one in quite some time."

Nodding in agreement, though he also had little knowledge of the situation, Elliot added, "Do you know the people involved? Or why they're being executed?"

Feyd was rather surprise they hadn't heard, the fliers had been everywhere. "It is public. Marius Quinn, or something like that. Him and his companion-- hold on, I've got it here." Feyd paused, fishing around his vest pocket for a moment before drawing out two papers which he set about unsticking from each other, muttering an low apology followed by an even lower curse.

He soon separated the two, one a card, his Fool card, the other one of the many fliers. Briskly he repocketed the card, offering the flier to them to read.

The hint of recognition made itself apparent on Adalei's face as she heard the name, her eyes widening considerably. She seemed so distraught by the news, suddenly pacing the room, that she did not notice Feyd's attempt to separate his card from the flyer. However, Elliot's eye was caught by the familiar design of the card, the item that summoned him into this world.

Leaning against a box, Elliot smiled mischeviously at Feyd, as though he had discovered his dirty little secret. "I should have known there was something peculiar about you. I can only imagine who you might have been on the Other--"

However, before he could finish his statement, Adalei rushed forward, snatching the paper from Feyd's hand. Her mouth trembled as her eyes scanned the page, once, twice--even a third time.

"Quinn! Quinn...It's impossible. It simply can not be. I watched that man die myself 5 years ago! I am certain of it." Staring past Feyd, her eyes were mixed with fear and confusion. "His throat was slit!"

It seemed everyone knew about these cards but Feyd himself. How annoying. And what exactly did Elliot mean by 'might have been'? And why did he look like the cat that swallowed the canary? He hadn't been talking to Grondax had he? Rising from his seat Feyd would have begun interrogating the boy but he was interrupted by Adalei and her distress.

"You knew him?"

"You knew him?"

"Knew him! Well, yes. I mean--how to explain the circumstances? It's that..." Adalei continued pacing, obviously flustered by the situation. "My relationship to Marius Quinn is complicated, to say the least. But even more complicated by...by this!" She shook the parchment that was still in her hand. "This man is already dead!"

Elliot watched Adalei with curiosity, the hint of a smile on his lips. She was genuinely distressed, but he was confident that they could solve the problem as soon as the worst of her anxiety passed.

"That's right... He's already dead. So this must be an imposter then...? Or..." She paused mid-stride, her face suddenly absent of all emotion. "Or...or it could be him." Her eyes turned once more to the flyer, studying the words printed on it.

As soon as the thought had formed in her mind, she flew to Elliot, taking hold of his arm and pulling him towards the window. "Right away, Elliot! We must stop this execution from occuring! If it's what I think...we can not allow this to happen!"

Feyd was begining to think that the pair enjoyed confusing him... and that they seemed to like his windows a lot better than his doors. He didn't really want to intrude or inturrupt but for the third time today questions had been stirred up and Feyd was too keen on letting the answers just go flying out his window. (Again).

"Stop it? It'll probably be loaded with Peace Enforcement troups. I know you can blast windows open and all," He's seen first hand, "but it's a public execution! Interfering will be suicide!" He had no love for Sehket of his goverment, and he was growing fond of his new (and strange) aquintences, he had no desire to see the latter hurt by the former.

Feyd's words seemed to have a significant effect on Adalei, who suddenly found herself drained of courage. "You're...you're right. But you have no idea what Quinn's companion is capable of. Even the Peace Enforcement will be unable to stop that man once he's out there, in front of an audience." Adalei swallowed, turning horrified eyes to Elliot.

"You've told me before." Elliot reminded her. Though his smile had not completely disappeared, there was suddenly an air of grimness to his voice. "Putting concerns of the Peace Enforcement fellows aside, I doubt that I can stop your friend alone. As you said, he'll become ecstatic as soon as he sees the crowd that's gathered--undoubtedly part of his plan from the start."

As Adalei's eyes fell to the ground, Elliot resumed a more cheerful tone. "Don't despair, Addy! We've got a powerful ally right here." Pointing to Feyd, he said with a smile, "Come, don't be shy. Show her your secret treasure--the card."

Feyd attempted to follow their conversation, eyes flickering between the two as they talked—it wasn’t easily. However he did get the idea what this Quinn liked crowds. A protester maybe? Would he give a speech? It seemed the pair were more worried about stopping is man then saving him.

The mention of the card caused Feyd to blink. It was really getting to be strange, everyone seemed to know so much more about it them he did, first the girl at the bakery, now these two. Maybe that’s what the fortune teller meant when she said the card would change his like. Feyd wasn’t sure he’d ever had so many unanswered questions in his life.

Despite his confusion he obliged, fishing from his pocket the card which he held out for them to see.

Adalei frowned visibly at the card that Feyd held, as though she couldn't quite believe that he had come into possession of such an object. "I see... Ah! You must be dreadfully confused." However, she did not proceed to explain matters to him.

With her hands on her waist, she began examining Feyd more intently, as though she was attempting to measure his physical abilities. "Well...yes, I think he might be of some help," she remarked to Elliot. "We haven't much time, though. And with three of us, we'll need to travel by foot."

"But with me, we should be able to come into contact with the Velvet Room more easily," Elliot replied, attempting to encourage his companion.

"Ah, I didn't consider that. Yes..." Turning back to Feyd, Adalei assumed an authoritative tone, "Listen. We haven't much time before the execution, but we can provide an explanation for that card of your's. We'll take you to the Velvet Room on the condition that you'll help us at the execution. The Velvet Room--that's where Igor is...how do I explain it? It's where you'll find the answers to your questions."

Pausing in a moment of thought, Adalei added, "You have access to the theatre's costumes, correct? Maybe...if you have some wigs or different clothing than what you normally wear... It may be best for you to disguise yourself."

Hikari Chou

PostPosted: Tue Sep 05, 2006 9:35 am

It wasn’t long before the duo found themselves at the door of their house. Hikari opened the door a gave a quick look around. When nothing seemed out of place, she entered her home and closed the door behind her.

“Yami?” She called out, in hopes her sister had returned from whatever outing it was she went on. When she got no response, she tried again, her voice shaking. “Y-Yami! Where are you?” Fear seemed to finds its way around her heart, gripping it tight.

Her and Miaka had been out all day! How come Yami wasn’t here?

She forced herself to take calming breaths, realizing it would do her no good should she go into panic mode. She needed a calm cool head in order to find her sister. The soft coos of the child in her arms also reminded her it would do even less good for her to get mugged because of the gold her other was sporting.

“Lets go do something to hide those.” Hikari told Parvati before moving to her room, pulling out a box from underneath her bed. “I’ve got something in here for you, okay? So sit still while I find it.” She murmured to the child, placing her down on the floor.

Taking this as a chance to explore Miaka crawled off and examined any and every content in the room. Hikari was too busy fiddling with the box to even take notice of this though. She neatly placed her dress on the side before grabbing the edge of a rag she noticed at the bottom of the box.

With a small tug the rags came out of the box, books spilling out in the process. “Ugh!” The dancer let out a frustrated noise before placing the rags she had dug up on top of her dress, moving to clean up the mess. However she stopped short of the action, thinking.

Her fingers grabbed the nearest book that fell out, a light blue one with the designs of a dragon, and flipped through the pages. Sure enough the pages were void of any text what so ever. Chewing on her bottom lip she reached for the next one. This one too, was blank.

Ever slowly an idea found its way into her head. Quickly she turned to see Miaka attempting to pull her tattered blanket off of her bed. “Miaka dear, come here.” The girl spoke, as if she truly expected the child to listen to her. Sure enough, her request fell on deaf ears.

Shaking her head, she hurriedly put the books except for two back in the box. Closing it she stood up and made her way to the child who was now nibbling on the corner of the blanket. “Hey you. That’s not for eating.” Hikari spoke as she picked up Miaka who let out a squeal.

5 minutes later saw to a Miaka dawned in rags to hide bracelets, and a Hikari walking out of the house with Miaka and a box full of books in her arms

Stepping into the town, Esmerelda had hoped it wasn't one of those towns with street rats and such. Sure, she had very little but that very little was what she had worked hard for.

Her stomach began to argue with her head .. she needed food, now. But where? Subconsciously, she sniffed the air and that's when the scent of freshy baked goods hit her senses; especially her stomach.

As she made her way to the bakery, she noticed a woman with a child .. and a box full of .. books? The young woman looked around her age .. more-so younger. Actually, she looked around the age Esmerelda was when she made her escape.

Hmm .. what was young woman doing with such a young child? The question was, more or less .. was it her own?

Well, if Esmerelda was going be staying in this town for a few weeks - possibly longer - then why not make some acquantences?

"Hello!"

Mind buried in thoughts of the execution, Feyd, and Yami, Hikari was completely oblivious to the woman before her. So when she heard the “Hello!” it was easy to understand why she almost dropped her box of books and Miaka from shock.

“H-h-h-hello” Hikari stuttered out, faintly noticing she was stuttering more then usual. The sudden reaction causing Miaka to fuss. What was causing her mom to act so weird? Eventually she managed to get the makeshift hood Hikari had over her head off, displaying her rather pink hair.

Thankfully, she kept most of her expensive jewelry hidden though.

“Uh....Um...” nothing seemed to come out of her lips. So Miaka answered for her with her new found skill.

“Phhhhhbt!!”

Esmerelda hurried over when it seemed the woman was about to drop her box and her child; but thankfully, that didn't happen.

"I apologize, I didn't mean to startle you." Bowing her head apologetically, she added, "My name is Esmerelda .. Esmerelda Milagros. I'm a street performer from the east."

It was then her gaze was turned towards the young child with pink hair. My .. she was a beautiful young one. A smile danced upon the performer's face, as she giggled quietly, "Why, aren't you just a little cutie."

As the small form approached, stray dogs of the Boneyard became alert, their hunger renewed. Though they tumbled over their own too-thin legs to confront the girl, they suddenly paused as they came within her vision. Ears pricked, they stood quite still, some sniffing the air with quivering nostrils. Another moment passed before they scurried away again, yelping and terrified of what they had found.

Within minutes, she neared the man she was seeking, her feet crunching brittle bones.
