[ Blessing of the Great ]

Why did he always have to be so right all the time? ** was annoyed. Jordan was such a pain when he could so easily argue him into the dirt without even trying. ** was sure he still had a leg to stand on so he kept going, but it was mostly all in vain. Damn him.

[Memory 6 - Pride]

There was some clapping - actually a series of clapping that came from the spectators area. Next to Allan was a kid wearing a Pikachu hoodie playing on what looked like a Nintendo DS.

"You did it, ***-kun! You believed in yourself and achieved bankai." He quickly scooted over to the clay figure that was once Mina, gesturing for the Sun trainee to come closer too. "Now, this part is the most important, so you have to do this properly." Jazz hands. "Okay, grab your weapon, and pull it out, raise it into the air and shout really loud 'BANKAI. NAME OF YOUR BANKAI HERE!' Well, you need like a name for your Bankai but I'm sure your weapon will help you."

The second spectator flipped closed their game - on pause mode - and shifted over next to Allan to curiously gaze at the spectacle as well. He decided to contribute his opinions. "You gotta say it real loud."

"Really loud." Allan agreed.

"And keep them raised."

"Right up in the air."

"And turn in a full circle."

- "Or just half a circle is fine."

"And then clap your hands ten times." Sage nod from the kid, echoed by a nod from the Sun lead.

----

***'s head darted up as he'd almost forgotten a second that Allan was observing the whole thing. WHERE DID THAT KID COME FROM?!

"I did?" Well that was good news. And now all he had to do was get his weapon back. A glint of gold amid the mess sent *** digging in and when the bow emerged she looked different than before. The bowshaft was slightly longer, the gold now carved with the outlines of scales, and the tufts of white feathers had disappeared. Only a feather talisman, decoration, hung from the grip and the ends of the bow had blades. They were thin, pale silver, and shaped like feathers.

***'s eyes widened and he grinned. THIS WAS AWESOME. The ruby gems along the weapon pulsed contentedly with runes and her voice had rejoined his mind.

Go ahead. Thisss is your mission. Mina sounded pleased as punch and playful.

"Oh right.." The albino glanced at the random child, then Allan. "BANKAI!! AH..."

Scaled.
"Scaled."
Serpent.
"S..Serpent."
Sun.
"Sun?"
Feather.
"Feather!"
Scaled Serpent Sun Feather? What?
I have seen that.. anime you watch.

And then he turned and forgot if it was a full or half circle so he turned again. Was there clapping? OH YEAH CLAPPING.

He clapped ten times and froze in place.

---

The kid fell over laughing while Allan managed to keep his facial expressions better under control. He did however take his grand old time admiring *** just standing there frozen in spot before saying something. "You did well ***-kun, you did very well. Allan-taichou is very proud of you as you know have the knowledge and power to wield bankai-"

- The kid burst out laughing again and was rewarded with small kick to their side -

- "Allan-taichou is proud of you, and you and your weapon should be proud of each other. There are some things, even when your weapon is bonded to you, that you have to confront face to face to grow stronger. You have learned a bit about your weapon and your weapon has learned more about you, as nakama for a lifetime. This experience and knowledge is invaluable, and I am proud to announce you both as-"

- The Sun lead excitedly moved over to his little camping spot to pull out something white and glimmering gold-

- "Official Hunter Bankai veterans!" On the front of the unfurled cloak, which was unfortunately very poorly stitched was a giant picture of a hug smiley face and then something that wrote in embroidered letters "OFFICIAL HUNTER B-" and pretty much cut off at the end.

Allan didn't wait for *** to recover from his stunned expression before tying the cloak proudly around the Sun Hunter.

*
The next morning thankfully *** also got a new Hunter coat and then another horribly embroidered white and gold coat that wrote "ANKAI VETERANS!" on it, and nothing else.

Blessing of the Gifted

The oven was glowing merrily as the smell of fresh spices and sugar filled the room. Her mother and father were away at a council meeting and she was rushing about like crazy to try and have everything ready for their return. A large roast was on the table, a few cooked vegetables and even fresh bread all covered to keep warm. The kitchen was a disaster area, flour and snippits of discarded food everywhere. She could make a good meal it seemed, but not without great sacrifice. Inside the oven were small spice cakes, dark in color and littered occasionally with bits of dried fruit. It was a recipe she knew was her mother's favorite, though she may have to rewrite the recipe since she spilled that egg on it. Still, as she heard the door open she felt her heart leap into her throat. She really, really hoped they'd like it. And she really hoped they'd ignore her covered in flour too.

Fighting a full hunter probably sounded stupid, but *** had made sure he wouldn't hold back on her. This was meant to be training for them both: long-range and short-range.

It was Gale's turn to strike her with the barrel of the gun. And blow after blow, despite their difference in ranks, she managed to fend him off until finally, at last, he broke through.

It was a rare moment of delight, to know she could hold her own under pressure. It was more rare to hear it, to listen to it from him directly: that he knew she was dependable.

And it didn't matter to her that later he would still clean her clock and leave a funny little bruise, because words mattered so much to her. And he was just being a little bit like sunshine rays about it, constant and bright and . . . warm.

This boy, she thought.

** watched in wonder as Rep so easily tore through dummies with Tracey like they were nothing. It was terrifying and magnificent all at the same time. He didn't really want to duel the man, however. With or without Tracey at hand. He was just too powerful. ** could feel it.

"Hey Fi, can I have your red?"

He looked up from his desk which looked decidedly, melty:

"Of course A...." Fiona stopped mid sentence holding her red crayon out to him. Her eyes on his work she was awestruck. "wow can you teach me how to do that later?" She plunked her crayon down for him and watched as he finished.

Her comment gave him a warm feeling which was cut short a moment later.

The goddesses had promised Clairins that he would become something greater. It didn't matter that he felt lesser, like he was steadily losing himself. It didn't matter that he was becoming fragments of what he once was. They'd promised him that he would become more than this. If he had to bear some indignities to reach that goal, he would do it, gladly.

Still, in the recesses of his mind, a tiny voice whispered that maybe, just maybe, he had been lied to.

Darkness, pain, and... it was lonely. Ever so lonely. The thought of becoming nothing, never seeing any of them again. That thought alone was what hurt most as the world faded to bits, pieces, silence. Ako still couldn't clearly recall his name, their names... who they were. It was all so broken into pieces, filtering in and out as it slipped from him that it became nothing once more.

He couldn't remember things clearly, they just came to him before briefly vanishing into a mist. Voices? Someone he knew? Shouting his name? No, he really couldn't recall... just a lonely... dark empty place. It was frightening really...

Did death mean staying in an echoing silence forever? Was that... was that truly how it went?

----------------------------

Pride was a dangerous thing. Necessary. But dangerous. Too much made you boastful, something to be hated. Too little and you lacked any sense of self, no will of your own. Lanaom found it a thin line he walked daily. Why? He wasn't sure. Even as he recalled the memories of what he had done, who he'd known. It didn't make sense. Why he cared so much about name, about being known for the deeds done. He didn't so much care to be famous as, to have a good name? He wasn't entirely sure why. Was it to earn the respect of someone in particular? He had recalled a figure, his father, but...

It wasn't clear. None of it was. And as soon as he recalled it it felt as if it slipped away again, to nothing and yet everything? Was it like becoming one of something greater? He wasn't entirely sure. It was hard to imagine, harder to grasp as he felt himself fading to nothing. To what would never be. He'd made a decision to take that path, choosing to sacrifice himself for something greater perhaps. If those promises, empty as they seemed, meant anything.

----------------------------

Mylisp could only faintly recall things. A face so like her own, sometimes smiling, other times staring at nothing. The sound of so many feet running about. Voices. Her parents. Yet, even with it all... she could only feel it growing farther and farther away. Leaving her further in a dark realm that she couldn't help to understand or grasp at.

Why couldn't she go with them? Why did she have to stay behind alone? Had she hands, she would have tried to grasp at them, as if they were tangible. Willing the things to stay, willing them to not leave her alone. Even as she knew, deep down, that it wasn't they that were leaving. No, it was her. She was fading... further and further into darkness... further into what had never been. Into something... that said it would be greater with her. Right. She helped... she really did. But she still wanted to see them again... why did they have to go?

Blessing of the Hopeful

She stood outside a large building, a bag tossed over her shoulder and a letter in her hand. All that she had thought and imagined had not even remotely prepared her for today. The anger and fear she had felt when she left home vanished and she knew that things were going to be alright, one way or another. She decided then that when she got to her dorm room and settled in, after having a nice snack of course, she was going to have to write a letter to her mother and apologize. She had been mean and made her cry, but she would make it right. This was all for the best after all. Shouldering her bag she headed onto the grounds, trying desperately to make heads or tails of her map.

{ main blessing one }

She sat at her desk, in a sleeveless top that would ensure no fabric dragged through ink accidentally. Parchment was sprawled out in front of her--pictures of places she'd only seen in her mind, through someone else's recollections as they spun the verbal images. It was easier for her to create from what someone else gifted to her. It allowed her more freedom to just... paint. Write. Create. Each stroke alternated between a few brushes, or her preferred medium of her claws. Simple was always better. What was more simplistic than nature's own design? She was ink, therefore, she created.

Her glance flickered up. He was lounging there. She kept asking him to tell her more about what he'd seen. She was pulling teeth at this point. But they were making progress. **** had already drawn her own contract she'd owe him if he'd just help her complete her project. Though if that had won him, or something else, she still wasn't entirely sure. Nor did she quite care in that moment.

Singing while going through the course had been an awful idea. Or maybe the most wonderful one.

She came back to Candace, huffing and puffing and absolutely flushed with pleasure because she did it! And the look the older Mist hunter gave her was worth it, even if she had fumbled at some parts.

If there was one person *** didn't want to let down, it was her. Today, at least, she could shine a little and soak up the praise.

Candace had called her princess. And while *** didn't believe she was, she was still touched to think someone would go that far. That maybe one day she would be as graceful.

Right. Impossible. She knew it was.

She pulled the letter from her pocket and tossed it on the bed. "I wrote it before." She didn't look at his face for more than a moment, afraid of what she might see there. It already hurt bad enough. Her heart hurt, the pain in her chest almost unbearable. It was a goodbye, and it hurt worse than she had imagined it would.

She didn't say anything as she turned, leaving the room.

[ Blessing of the Gifted ]

** was finally alone. In a place no one could hear. With his instrument no one else could see. For now. It was just him and his violin. His bow danced across the strings and a merry tune was created. Nuru seemed to settle in his thoughts to enjoy this moment for what it was. It was just them and this secret. This gift he could not share with the world for threat of ridicule. ** still enjoyed the moment, carefree.

She knew what she had to do, but she just couldn't bring herself to do it at first.

Maybe Ina mother time, another place, things would have been better for her, but she knew herself. She knew the choice that she had to do. She went to the place where she was to give her heart. Her hand on her chest, herself feeling the her hand going through, ripping it from here chest.

Slowly, she could feel everything that she had experienced floating away from her. Fading slowly, til she could not remember the by things she was wanting to not let go.

She would have fought for something like this, but there was a choice anymore. It was the last thing she could never do. Something in her heart that wouldn't be letting go.

And there, everything that made her her was gone.

A 17 year old *** stood in front of his father, shuffling nervously from foot to foot as he looked anywhere but straight ahead. "I don't think I need to tell you," his father said after a deliberately long, uncomfortably silent moment, "how stupid what you did tonight was."

"No, sir," *** replied.

"And I don't think I need to tell you," he continued, "that if you had gotten caught drunk behind the wheel of my car, your high school graduation and your start of service date would have been in some serious jeopardy."

"No, sir."

"I sure as hell hope not. Now, you're gonna go outside and you're gonna run it out 'til you're sober."

"Uh, b-but, sir," *** stuttered. "It's the middle of the night, I won't be able to see where I'm going."

"Then I suggest you take a flashlight."
