Mala began to snicker. "Really? Wow. I had no idea." she said, moving a stray strand of red hair out of her face before she continued talking. "I wonder, how did you become known as a God of Thievery? I know it involves stealing, which is more than obvious, but I'd like to hear the story behind it if there is one."

"Like I said, the whole ascension to godhood thing is kinda fuzzy, since I've been around for so long..." Van said scratching the back of his head before straining to remember. "But I think....No, that sounds right...I'm pretty sure I used to be mortal at some point...A master thief that ran out of stuff to steal or found no more challenge in it...Whether my reputation hit god status, or the gods themselves decided to give me the promotion, I can't remember, but somethin' happened to land me a cushy spot of godhood." he said with a shrug.

Mala thought for a moment, realising something. "So if you were promoted to godhood by the other gods, wouldn't it mean that it was sort of their fault that you hung around and annoyed them so much?" she asked. "I know I must seem insolent, but I doubt that even the gods are perfect. After all, I've met you." Of course, Mala meant no offence by this comment. It might've been easy to tell judging by the look of innocent thought in her eyes as well.

Van just sort of stared at her, thinking that bit over before chuckling and finally laughing out loud. "You're right! No matter how you look at it, they're the ones who gave me this gig in the first place! I'm a thief, of course I'm not going to comply to their uppity standards!" he grinned at the thought of shoving that fact in the other gods' faces later.

Mala smiled. "I'm glad I am. I don't think I'll ever view the gods the same as I once did, since I've met you." she admitted, smiling brightly and warmly like the welcoming campfire that welcomed a weary adventurer before the next big quest. "If anything, it seems like they're just powerful people - kind of like us humans but more power in their grasp."

"Glad I helped with your 'enlightenment' then I suppose." Van said with a faint smile as he looked upward in thought. "I've honestly been thinking lately...Once I'm free again, I might just renounce this godhood crap...For one thing Atius and the rest might just lock me up again when I head back, and another, it's kinda boring really...Immortality, basically getting what you want on a whim...It's not really all it's cracked up to be." he said as his expression changed to a slightly depressed look.

Mala frowned slightly. "I highly doubt they could pull a stunt like that twise and so soon. I would think that sealing would take much power out of a person, which is why it takes so long to preform the ritual. It's also probably why so many people die when attempting to tamper with seals, whether it be removing them or placing them." she thought out loud. "Then again, gods are powerful. I might simply be underestimating them with that thought." she sighed, frowning to herself. "I guess what I'm trying to say is that you shouldn't have to find a way to quit being immortal, even if you lose the title of 'god'. You'll get to know so many people, have so many more happy experiences, and live more than long enough not to be forgotten any time soon. Isn't that something to be treasured?"

"You forget, I was in that ring for a few years before Riley picked me up, and then another few years before he actually put the ring on. I think they've recharged by now." Van said looking back at Mala with a small smirk. "This is true though. This world had enough trouble with me before I got a promotion to god. I'd like to see how people fare with the literal god of thieves running around." he said folding his arms, a newfound cockiness in his voice that he hadn't had for a while from his lack of thievery. "An eternal life of thievery and adventure...I have to say, I do like the sound of that."

'I'm certainly condemning myself to the hatred of all the other gods with this, aren't I?' she thought to herself before pushing such thought aside. If they honestly cared about everything she did, they would've let her know..right? "There you go! You've got your purpose for once you escape Riley's body and that ring, so now all we need to do is get you out of there!" she said cheerfully.

"What about you?" Van asked when he realized that up to this point, they'd always been focusing on getting him out of Riley. He just now came up with his plans after the fact, but what about Mala? "Any plans once you get your brother back?"

Mala thought for a moment. "I honestly don't know. If Riley's up for it, I might travel with him for awhile - get to know myself better and hopefully give Riley some experiences to treasure." she replied casually. "I might retire as a priestess altogether, since let's be honest, my personality isn't suited for it in the least."

"No offense, but it's kinda true." Van said with a smile. "Besides, you are committing the horrible crime of aiding the dastardly prisoner of the gods." he said mockingly now that he really saw how ridiculous his imprisonment was.

Mala chuckled. "That's true. Plus, I can't heal worth a damn. If I must, I could probably get a job helping adventurers get through dangerous locations with my barriers. At least then my 'priestly' skills would be useful." she said easilly. "If all else fails, I could always try gambling." she then joked.

"What about Riley? Wouldn't you be putting him in danger during your adventuring? Unless you're actually considering leaving him alone?" Van wondered, surprised if she was actually considering it.

Mala's eyes widened when he mentioned this. "Oh goodness, you're right! I could never do that!" she said, feeling embarassed for ever thinking of such an idea. "I'm so silly, aren't I? Considering foolish endeavors like that without even thinking." she said, humiliated with herself.
