Syllandra- He's absolutely gorgeous! ^_^ Congrats on the little one.

Well, its official. Whatever came back on my heart monitor has my OB worried and she's put me on limited bed rest ( I think that's whatshe called it). Basically I can go to school as long as I'm careful not to do anything strenuous like take the stairs. And I can do minor things like grocery shopping if needs be. But other than that, everything else is a no no. I had to put in my two weeks notice at work today. She won't be ahppy about me working for another two weeks, but I'd feel bad leaving my boss high and dry by just up and quitting.

Syllandra, congrats! I'm so happy for you and can't wait to see pictures of him. I love reading birth stories!

Take it easy and try not to overdo it, don't feel bad about not working when the doctor said you need to be on bedrest!

My level 2 u/s came back fine, the cyst (well the perinatologist didn't really think there was one to begin with) isn't there and baby is doing fine.

So what's a good way to handle swelling of the hands?? Swelling of the feet I can deal with, its the hands I'm having a hard time dealing with . It seems like its all day long that they're all swollen and stuff. It very uncomfortable.

i was told other than drinking tons of water (odd i know youd think itd make it worse *shrug*) and laying on your left side /resting there isnt much you can do but that if becomes severe to call your doctor because it may be a sign of something else. I have the same problem except its my handsfeetanklesface gonk lol.
LUNA--Glad to hear everything is a ok
on a side note ...how awesome are rice krispie treats! its like all i can eat >>;; lmao how's everyone?
PostPosted: Wed May 17, 2006 5:48 pm

It's funny you'd mention rice krispy treats because I got cereal today and am planning to make some myself. whee I'm not able to eat a lot of anything, let alone heavy foods, and so I thought that at least if I make those, I'm still getting in iron and other things I need without starving. I'm hoping this is a sign that my body is getting ready for labor by making me crave easier to digest foods and drink that don't linger too long.

I have my 39 week check up tomorrow and they never called me back about the urine test, so I'm assuming that means no protein and I'm fine for now, even if my BP is up at the end here. And if there were, before they'll have time to run all the tests he'll be out and my BP will go back down to where it usually is anyway. Rather silly, I think.

The day after my last check up I started getting really bad symptoms of SPD; I've had them off and on through out the pregnancy but they'd been fleeting until this time. [Mental note: I should see if the pregnancy sticky has links about it and if not, add some because it's important to be aware of because it affects what positions you can use in labor.] So I need to bring that up tomorrow so they know NO STIRRUPS or crunched up C position. gonk I'm just glad about 80% of the deliveries are done by midwives so they should be aware of this and how to work around it.

As for hands, laying on your left side is about all you can do to help the circulation along. I know you said you're having issues with your heart, experiencing high blood pressure as well, Hikari? Because if you are, that could be causing it too. Make sure to keep your provider up to date on it so they know the full extent of your symptoms. If that's the case, maybe you should look into learning new ways to help relax and see if it doesn't help? As an added bonus, they'll come in useful during labor. smile

I know when I start stressing too much and letting myself get caught up in drama and things I shouldn't mine starts to pop up. I've been having to learn to just let it go; most things, no matter what they are, aren't really worth it when I think about it in terms of the baby and our health. It's changed my perspective alot.

Pirate Dirge
I know you said you're having issues with your heart, experiencing high blood pressure as well, Hikari?

Oddly enough, I don't have High Blood Pressue. Mine jumps around so much. In a 1 hour time span I went from something like 93/60 - 160/90 - 106/80; very sporadic like that.

I'll keep trying the laying on my side and see if I can't squeeze some more water in me. I'm getting a little over 2 liters a day, and I hate water so yeah.

It seems I'm far more easily offended since I got pregnant than I normally ever am, and and I let things get to me even more so, and I'm not sure how to combat that.

eek My last BP was only a 127/87 and they still made me pee in the cup. And that's been my highest. Some of those numbers are damn scary you have there.

Mine jumped around a bit, but never that extreme. sweatdrop

Im telling you the people at the rice krispie place must love me now lol. I'm so tired gonk i cant sleep i toss and turn and just as i fall asleep ..i have to pee.Little man likes to kick me in the back and he keeps pushing on my scoliosis so my legs go numb or he turns and pushes on my sciatic ..ow! ive tried pillows and everything but still no sleep. That plus on the off occasion i do actually pass out ..literally.. i wake up crying from nightmares about Tim sad ive tried talking to my doc about it but they just dismiss it. *sigh* And theyre making me do a 24 hr pee test. I have to save my urine for 24 hrs in a jug o.O because from day one i guess ive had atleast trace amounts of protien and some sugar once and a while and a few times my normaly abnormally low bp had sky rocketedbut i dont see what the big whoop is because by the time i left it had settled back into what would be "normal" range. I was like ew you want me to keep my pee in that jug xd TMI i know sorry. Has anyone else had to do this? and ooooh Pirate is getting so close >.<
Hikari- wow thats wierd with the bp. Oh and helpful tip i also HATE water so my doctor said to squeeze a bit of fresh orange or lemaon in it just enough to give it some flavor. It might help.

Ok, it looks like the link list doesn't have spaces for specific problems, so for now, I'm going to post links about SPD here, for anyone else who may be having problems like I do, and it sounds like it's rather common:

Symphysis Pubis Dysfunction (SPD): iVilliageUK

Pubic Pain: Plus size pregnancy

So if any of you ladies are experiencing extreme pain in your ligaments while turning over, or hip problems, anything with that whole pelvic region, these are worth a look at. For me, it's been mostly manifesting as extremely sore and stiff upper inner thigh muscles but last week my pelvic and pubic bones have started to make sickening cracking noises.

Awww, I hope that test turns out OK, Monkey. How gross to have to pee in a jug for a full day. Everything about pregnancy is pretty much TMI, thus making nothing TMI. ;]

Yeah water insanely enough helps with swelling. I try to pour some crystal light or other sugar free drinks in with some water to give it just enough flavor for me.

Man, I've been on a cereal kick and the Rice Krispy Treats cereal sounds soooo good right about now. Marshmellow goodness! I've never heard of the 24 hour pee test, so I'm no help there. I hope the pain lets up for you, Monkey! If your doctor is going to dismiss it, I'd ask for a doctor who's going to listen to how you are doing emotionally, not just physically.

SPD, that sounds painful, I was reading that link though and I hope it's relieved really soon after birth for you. I've been trying to find out some information (I have an appointment next week, I do plan on asking the doc) on driving after giving birth. I thought I remembered them telling me I couldn't drive for a couple days, I know with c-sections they tell you to limit it. I'm just trying to think of how to juggle newborn, Logan's school and speech therapy. I'm really trying to tell myself to not try to do it all and luckily I have a good support group here.

So, I have like NO experience with this, where did you ladies register?
PostPosted: Thu May 18, 2006 12:38 pm

I was told to register at Babies R Us because they will take back and give store credit for just about ANYTHING as long as it's in the box. We took back a play mat sent to us, without the receipt from a different STORE! (we already had one), and got to buy something else.

Plus they work with Amazon.com so you'll have it online and lots of even computer illiterate folk know how to work an amazon.com

If you don't have a BRU nearby you can even set it all up online.

ALSO if there isn't a BRU nearby most likely your TRU will have it's own "Babies R Us" inside.

mad Oh what I'd give for the ability to smite that last CNM I saw.

I have never had a bad experience with one up until now.

My BP this whole pregnancy has been a little shady...low number in the lower 80's and the higher number would creep a little. But my usual provider hasn't been worried and the lady I saw last week wasn't worried about me either. The nurse who took my vitals made me do a urine catch and since no one has said anything, I can only assume it was clean. Today's BP was higher because everything that could go wrong on the way to the hospital DID. Huge construction trucks brought the highway to a standstill, the check point we had to go into had only one person working and over a dozen cars, Chris had to drop me off as close as he could and I did my best impersonation of a running duck. I barely got in and sat down, couldn't even get checked in and they called me. So my first check was high, so they gave me a minute, checked it again and it was much better. Right where it has been and lower then last week.

So I have to see a different CNM today and so far, they've all been great. I want to use some extremely vulgar language to describe this woman and it wouldn't be an exaggeration. When she said she wanted me to do a urine catch, I thought, OK, because it was slightly elevated again and I can see wanting to check for protein. Understandable. She then tells me I am also going to have an NST today, a full blood panel, AND I have to do a 24 hour urine catch on top of it. Um, since when do you have to do all of those based on a simple blood pressure number? And she had the nerve to try and tell me that's not all she was basing it off of. UM, YEAH IT WAS.

I'm extremely angry and feeling violated. So I have to take the urine back tomorrow and then she wants me to check in with her. She also demanded I come back Monday for another blood pressure check and when Chris mentioned Monday was a bad time because of work [they've been really great about letting him off so far, but for a quick check, come on, that's excessive and the station is short-handed] and asked if we could do it on Tuesday instead, she GLARED AT HIM.

I'm supposed to see her next Thursday and tomorrow before I check in, I'm rescheduling with someone else. I don't want to see her again if I don't need to, I'd rather talk to one of the other ladies and when I get my survey about this appointment, you can bet I'm filling it out.

So I have to go do an NST and am hooked to what seems like every single contraption known to man for 25 minutes. I had to press a button everytime my boy moved. He moved so much the nurse checking it was surprised and commented he's a lively and happy little guy. YES he is, but I've been telling everyone that. The results of the NST, his heart rate was great. He moved at least 30 times I can remember in that time frame. It checked my BP 6 times, each time it was 120/60 DESPITE the fact I was rather worked up and stressed out. [I think the bigger cuff helped and I may mention that to Ms. Bitchyface CNM tomorrow. For all the overweight ladies out there, cuff size DOES matter.] And apparently I had three contractions I couldn't even feel the entire time.

Then it was off to the u/s to check my fluid levels. OH JOY. Well, I can't complain too much about that one because it was so nice to see him and the sonographer was nice enough to print us off a profile picture. His fluid levels are great and he's packed tight in there.

THEN we had to go talk to the lady who reviews both and she was confused that we were having to go to the lab. Everything was more then fine and she thought I'd have to go back to the CNM at that point and I told her we were being sent to the lab instead and she looked rather suprised by it.

So then it's off to the lab where I needed blood drawn, which I HATE HATE HATE and to pick up the 24 hour collection kit. Which is going to be a huge pain in the a** and there has been nothing that has happened so far to justify it.

I'm livid and feeling disrespected and violated. There was no reason to put me through any of this besides the fact that I'm fat and my BP was slightly above 80 on the bottom number.

Lol, well you know I'm angry for you and I really hope you don't have to go through this again.

Okay another registry question, if you don't mind. Is there like some things that aren't okay to put on a registry? Would it be tacky to put like a highchair or swing in case relatives get it or even for my train of thought so I know what to get or is that kind of a no no?

Put anything you NEED on the registry. Everything from a crib to a baby brush and comb set.

People who can only afford the brush and comb set and a bottle of baby shampoo will buy it, because they know you need it. Mom and dad and relatives out of town who want to drop a hundred will get you that swing or highchair.
