((Handseal roll = roll + 1))

Perfect. She had it by the tail. She felt the chord... It was clashing... It was oddly conflicting... But it was right. The monkey was an extraordinarily complex thing... It did a lot of things that didn't quite conform to anyone else's standards of what is right or wrong. It marched, swung, and jumped to the beat of its own drum, completely ignoring everything else and everyone else that tried to stop it. It had a stubborn determination to stand out. It wasn't going to let anything --Not even the Ox-- Stand in its way. The next seal... Lula noticed that it was the last one with a small pang of sadness, but then joy as she realized that she would be able to listen to these stories any time she wanted to. And she was eager to hear the Rabbit's tale. A small turn of the wrist was all that was needed. And so she tried.

Handseals
The first thing the students needed to learn were the handseals that made the Jutsus possible. So I set them to learning all twelve. The rules are as follows: Roll 1d20 for each seal, one at a time. They must get a 12 or higher in order to correctly perform a seal. Each seal must be performed once correctly before being learned. Use the formula: [1d20 + Int Mod. = (#)].
DC: 12
Total Seals Learned: 11/12
**No Hp or Cp cost.

It had eluded her. For now. She wasn't convinced that she was completely wrong with this one, so she didn't take it apart yet. She instead tried to reform it. To reshape the seal to be what she needed. And so she tried. This was the last seal... Maybe she was just holding out to build the anticipation. Maybe she didn't want this to be over. She nodded to herself softly and gave a small smile. It's worth finishing to hear this story. She closed her eyes, trying to feel the seal out.

It jumped out of her reach again. She nodded. She had expected no less. She took a deep breath and shook her hands out, shaking her head to clear out the ruckus that had filled it. She took another deep breath and studied the scroll. Ok... That's where I went wrong. She studied the seal for a little longer, noticing everything she could before she would try again. Finally she set the scroll back on her lap and attempted to construct the Rabbit one more time. How hard could it be? At least it wasn't easy.

Lula laughed out loud. She was struggling! She was ecstatic! This was the highlight of her day. No number of empty bulls-eyes could possibly top this high. She continued laughing as she pulled her hands apart and shook them out once again. She tried to put the seal back together again as she remembered it. She had decided not to look back at the paper, but to act as the notes guided her. The Hare would be hers soon enough. It couldn't run forever.

Training Exercise:

19/31

Ranged Attack: 1

Target Practice
Each student will be given a basic set of 6 shurikens and 3 kunai knives (or 15 senbon) and taken outside to the wooden dummies for target practice. They're expected to aim for 31 total points.
1 - 5 = Miss
6 - 10 = Just hit (1 point)
11 - 15 = Stomach (2 points)
16 - 19 = Head (3 points)
20+ = Heart (5 points)
Formula: 1d20 + Attack Ranged
Training: 0/31 points
Rewards: +3 Kunai, +3 Shuriken skill (or +6 in a specific ranged weapon category)

Instructions: Roll 1d20. Add your Attack Ranged to the roll. That is your final dice roll. Find the matching range that final roll is in.

--

The third kunai once again hit the dummy, this time in the leg, another non vital point on the body which scored him another point. "It's better than nothing. Well now to these little shuriken..." he said picking one up and turning it over in his hand. He took a deep breath and tossed the small weapon at the dummy. At this rate he wasn't going to get those thirty-one points anytime soon if his aim didn't get better, or unless he got lucky and hit the heart more than once back to back.

Apparently it could She almost fell over laughing. (She was sitting down, too) This was the most fun she'd had all day. She was actually having trouble with this assignment. She laughed and pulled herself upright. The Rabbit might be a little bit faster than she thought. She shook her hands out and studied the scroll more carefully. She was eventually going to get this. Even if she was an old maid and still trying. And she would still be laughing. This could never get old. It was the only thing that was difficult for her so far. She was just happy that she wasn't good at everything... Like some people she could think of.

Lula's bell-like laughter echoed through the clearing. She was so much like an infant trying to fit a square block through a round hole that it was almost ridiculous. She was completely content with failure. Hell, she was more than content with failure. She was jubilant! She couldn't have been happier if she was being named Kage. She was happy with the simple things in life. And nothing was simpler than failure. She thanked every lucky star that this had been difficult. She would have soon grown bored of being a shinobi if everything was as easy as throwing shuriken.

And she had it. A perfect Rabbit. It was a happy sound. It was as squirrely as the monkey, but it was doing it because it wanted to be happy, and not because it wanted to prove that it was different. It was peaceful... It was kind, but it was acting on its own impulses, and bending to everyone elses will. it was almost the polar opposite of the Ox, and its harmony was almost a melody, twinkling quietly in the background.

There must have been some sort of force that had decided to pay attention to his request as the shuriken hit the dummy's heart. He grinned and picked up another shuriken and looked at the area that the other shuriken hit the dummy and aimed. "Let's hope that this one hits the same area." he muttered confirming his target once more. When he was certain that he was going to hit the target, he tossed the shuriken at the dummy.

((Shuriken roll = roll + 4))

Lula stepped up to her target, beside Hoshi. I'm going to get two hundred points this time. And I'm not going to stop until I do. The decision had been made. It was done. She wasn't stopping until she had two hundred points. Although... She had gotten over half that earlier, and she'd been pushing herself harder than before. Oh, well. She had said two hundred, and that's what she was going to shoot. She flipped her six shuriken out of their pouch and primed them, staring her target down before snapping them forward faster than she could see them.

The humming was in her ears. She already knew how many points she had scored before she even looked at the target. fifteen... Three in the stomach and three hit his head. She looked up. She was right. Three of the shuriken had buried themselves in the dummy's stomach, and three more had gouged themselves into the dummy's head. She couldn't imagine how this music thing worked, but all she knew was that it did. And she was going to listen to it no matter what happened. She finally had a nin-do... Follow the music. She dashed up and ripped her six shuriken out of the target, running forward, jumping in the air and turning a 180 flip as she launched the shuriken at the target, landing while facing the dummy.

Three in the gut and three more in the face. Once again her suspicions were confirmed when she approached the target to retrieve her blades. She nodded. She was definitely getting better than... Anyone on her team... She didn't want that, but that's just the way it was happening. She sighed. At least they'd have a ranged specialist. And she damn enjoyed it, too. Maybe she'd have to learn some tricks that weren't so easy. As it was, she ran away from the target, jumping and turning a back flip and throwing her shuriken, adding a spin so that she would be facing the target upon landing.

She watched this time, and heard the chimes each shuriken made in her mind as she saw them pelt into the target. She could even identify in which order they'd hit. She was getting better and better at listening to the sounds of the shinobi... At least now she didn't think she was crazy for having them. They made her happy... Was she crazy for being happy? Bah. If she was crazy for being happy, then she'd take all of Konoha on to prove that she was competent. She stepped up to her target, pulling the three shuriken from the dummy's right arm and ripping gout the ones form its gut. Turning around, she ran forward again, jumping this time with an aerial (cartwheel without the hands) and launching all six shuriken at the target she'd left behind.

Not quite as good that time. The chimes were far off and dissonant. She landed her aerial and nonchalantly realized she was still shirtless. Oh, well. She preferred not wearing that baggy thing. In fact... She might just walk around in her wraps as a rule. Heaven knows there wasn't a reason to wear a shirt but to cover ones breasts, and she had that covered. She shrugged and walked back up to the target. six shuriken had hit. Three had gone into the right shoulder and three into the left. She shrugged again. That would have locked the arms in place above the elbow. There wasn't any harm in hitting the fringes as long as she was hitting joints. She turned on her heel and then got another idea. She stood where she was. She didn't even know if she could pull this move off. She took a deep breath. And then she was off. She sprung up and back, tucking as she flew so that she was crouching on the trunk of the tree overlooking the dummy when she was horizontal. She shoved forward, flying into the air opposite the dummy, turning and shooting her six shuriken at the target.

There was that whistling again. She knew what that meant. Three in the heart. And it was accompanied by the humming bass of a stomach shot. When she landed, she was facing away form the target, and she was crouched low to the ground, spread out to maintain her balance. She straightened herself out and turned to look at her target again, in all its splintered glory. She walked up to it and found herself looking at just what the music had told her: Three of the shuriken had surrounded the heart and three had formed their own triangle at the stomach. She ripped them out, splintering the wood even further. Her poor dummy looked like it had been hit with a couple of spiked hammers. She thought about what she was going to do as she walked back to her mark. She decided when she got there: She turned in place and threw all six shuriken towards the target, dancing through the air.

Lula saw the shuriken strike the target. Three in the heart and three in the right shoulder. She stepped back up to her target and ripped the shuriken back out. The poor thing's chest looked like it had been run through a cheese grater. Pretty soon, there'd just be a hole, and she would only be able to grade chest shots by the shuriken that passed through it. She laughed and primed all six in between her fingers as she walked away from the target. Just how would she do it this time? She got it. She ran forward a couple of steps, jumped into the air and turned parallel to the ground. A five-forty spin brought her down and she turned to face her target. The shuriken had been launched somewhere within the maneuver. They sped toward the target.
