It was the laws of narrative convenience. If, within the narrative, you had won, Lucas and his cronies would have no ability to make additional sequels. Therefore, for the cause of the story, you had to be fooled. Were the story to take place in reality, without narrative laws in place, The treachery would have been more than likely discovered quickly.

you'd think that given the adaptability of life that humans would have darker complexions! I mean young Anakin is just shy of the Aryan poster boy!

They have night blindness, and are "genetically more beautiful"..
Which is the largest load of rubbish I've ever heard for classification of a near-human. It's like Lando being a near human because he's got a "genetically darker skin pigmentation".

So they're blind at night but physically more appealing. Sounds more like alot of forced inbreeding to me.
