She slept a while more then woke up slowly and groggily. Once she was finally awake she realized a problem. She glanced down at herself and swore. She stood up and grabbed the sheet, wrapping it around herself like a towel over the tattered remains of her shirt. The pants weren't exactly in great shape either, but one dagger hole in the calf was a lot less of a problem then a shirt that was little more then rags. She secured the blanket as best she could and frowned. It was going to sweep the floor. She gathered it in her hands as best she could, which of course left her hands occupied. she dropped it at the door then regathered it. she looked up and down the area then chose a direction and walked, hoping to find a change of clothing, or some one who could help her find a change of clothing. hopefully not some one male.

Maria heard footsteps in the lower basement and sighed. "Dearest, the kitchen is this way," She called.

She headed that way, a bit relieved, holding the bunched blanket around herself.

Maria was holding open the door to the basement. "Hungry? I can get you breakfast in a jiffy."

She hesitated then nodded. "And... if it wouldn't be a problem... I really could use a new shirt first. And... um... a shower..." she admitted. She didn't like the idea of showering here, but it was such a step that she was willing to.

"That's no problem dear. Come this way. There's a bathroom in the same hall as your room, and the wardrobe in your room should have a variety of clothes you can choose from. You can pick out your own clothing, yes?"

She nodded and followed.

Maria led her back up to her room, then scuttled to the bathroom to turn on the shower and get fresh towels. "Anything you need, just let us know dear. Shower's on and towels are out." She smiled and entered the room again, opening the wardrobe, and clothes are in here."

"Thank you," she said softly, not used to some one fussing over her like this, and she was not sure how to handle it.

"Now, what do you want for breakfast? I can have it fixed by the time you're all done showering."

"Um," she said then shrugged. "Anything not meat... If it's not meat, I eat almost anything."

"Eggs?"

She winced and shook her head apologetically. "Sometimes things with eggs in them...if I have no choice...but looking at eggs themselves... knowing what they could have been..." she shuddered a bit and shook her head. "I'm sorry, I'm not trying to be difficult, I promise," she whispered.

"It's fine dear. Oatmeal and toast then. Have a nice shower." Maria left and went to start breakfast.

She watched her go then closed the door. she hesitated then pushed furniture in front of it. She went through the dresser to see what kind of clothing was there. She dug around and finally found jeans and a turtle neck. The pants were dark blue, not black, and the shirt was a dark dusky gray. She was so used to black and white by now, the explosion of color in the draw had been... startling at the least. She closed it, reeling from the sensory overload. She hadn't gone shopping anywhere but thrift shops lately, so she had actually begun to forget that clothes CAME in such a dazzling array of colors and materials. Some how seeing people at school wearing them never seemed to make an impact on her. Maybe because for the past few years she hadn't sen classmates, she saw threats and non threats. She scowled, not liking that line of thinking. Another draw showed her undergarments in her size. she scowled darkly as she took what she needed. She did NOT want to think about why he had women's underclothes, and clothes, in such abundance. And that it was in her size... was just creepy. She shuffled into the bathroom and closed the door. She looked for a lock, and if she found one, she used it. She then shoved the blanker against the bottom of the door and under if there was any gap, to jam it. As she undressed quickly she hung the clothing on the hinges to make it even harder to open the door. A part of her remembered when she didn't think about things like that, that part of her wanted to feel safe again, protected, to not see everything and every one as a danger. She shoved that desire aside with the more immediate desire to was those creeps off of her. She got into the shower and washed as fast as she could, trying not to think. However, she couldn't help it. Memories washed over her as her brain sorted out what had happened. Those guys all over her, struggling against them, their hands on her. She shuddered as a sob wracked her body, she struggled to make no sound as her tears joined the shower water on her face. She could still almost smell their breath, feel their touch, and the fear... she had no weapons, she had been unarmed and stupid... and she had very nearly paid for it in a very real and very bad way. And then... tears ran as she blinked into the spray. She recalled what he looked like, looming in the alleyway, approaching. The pain as she waited for him to abandon her... and... She shivered a bit, thought not entirely in a bad way, at the memory of how she felt when he didn't abandon her. He had saved her life, for her, because it was her. He actually cared enough to want to save her. Wasn't that what she had always wanted? She found herself crying heavily, but silently, with no clue why. Everything was just so.. confusing. She had all her dreams at her finger tips, it seemed. Some one who actually cared and wanted to protect her, some one who wanted to keep her safe, magic, and... he could turn into animals. She had always ALWAYS gotten along with animals better then people even before... even as a child. He had been a wolf friend first, then a dragon, but now.. a person. Could she handle that? HE had healed her twice but for all his magic, when it came down to it... he was a human male. What if he was setting her up for something worse yet? She shook her head as she washed. Dreams didn't just come true, and everything had a price. She remembered reading that in a book once. Well, more then once. It was a well loved trilogy in her collection, when she allowed herself time to read. She identified with the struggles the main character went through as a child. Being called crazy, no one believing her, and... She shuddered again, a name on her lips, whispered like a curse, whispered like a poison. And it hadn't just been the main girl, there were others she had identified with. On e of the girl's best friends had a mouth and a temper that impressed skunk. she thought she could well have gotten along with that particular witch. But what had surprised her really, was that there were male characters she actually liked by the end of the book. The brothers. It was the first time she had ever read about males having problems like that. It had been fascinating, eye opening, and unfortunately, too graphic. She could have done without the descriptions, however... however she had found herself sympathizing with them. Did she like everything they did? Not by a long shot. But where she could easily see either of them killing her if they were real, there were somethings he knew they would never do to a girl... and that was... oddly comforting. But most of all... had been the one whose name alone made her want to hate him. She had shuddered when she had first read his name she had shuddered. But as she read about him... he had become something of almost... a dream as well. an ideal maybe. He was a protector, a guardian, rather then wanting something inappropriate from the young girl who came to him, he was angry on her behalf. He gave all he had to protecting. The thin gs that scared her most a bout males were... mostly abhorrent to him. There still somethings... but... he would never force anyone.. and that counted for a lot. It shook her, standing there, to realize how many ways he seemed to be in common with... grass, she didn't even kn ow what name to call him by, now that she knew he was truly human. What was his real name? She shook her head and thought about their similarities as she got out and dried herself off. She was so lost in thought that she took her time, and was too distracted to remeber to be afraid. They seemed so similar but as he always said in the books, everything had a price. If he really did want to protect her, if this wasn't all some long and very odd dream, if this wasn't going to vanish... what would be the price? She got dressed, thinking of all the prices paid in the books, and all the prices she'd already paid in her own life. Once she was dressed she pulled everything clear so she could open the door. She dumped the blanket on a chair, the shirt in the nearest waste pail she could find, and after moving what little was in the jeans pockets to the new ones, the pants got the same treatment. She finger brushed her hair and tied it into a knot at the op of her head. It wouldn't hold long, but she had lost her hair tie at some point. She moved the furniture from the door and rested her handle on the knob. "Everything has a price," she whispered. She took a deep breath and headed for the kitchen, darkness be merciful.
