I am so sorry that I haven't been on also...ehh, I'm extremely stressed about school and stuff like that. I have 2 essays to write in 2 weeks! I have 3 music-related public events that I have to go to by next week. I have to also finish an huge project for my japanese class by next friday. So you could say I have no time for the internet! lol speaking of christmas music, I've always loved Noel and Holy nights and songs like that. I have never heard of any other christmas songs..especially from Norway, so that is awesome Kitsune! The only other songs I know that are not American are the ones that are Mexican...and those are the ones that we sing in posadas. Posadas are basically the re-enactment of Mary trying to find shelter and being turned away before Jesus was born. You sings songs back and forth...like there is some people outside the door (a bit like christmas carolers) singing to be let in the house, and the people inside open the door and they sing back and forth some more. It ends with a Rosary (since its a Catholic tradition) and we eat Posole right afterwards! yummy! Those are the basically only mexican christmas songs I know, other than that, the american ones..
About the english thing...englisht all day? That seems really long and boring (no offence) but that would be like having Japanese class all day long..which I would just die (I am so glad that I am not taking it next semester!
biggrin ) Anyways, I just have stresses over class and then what my whole major requires me to take.....ehh, satistical psychology!
crying What other traditions do all of you do for the holidays?
Hehe.. I've heard several English ones as well. Though I still prefer the Norwegian ones. It brings out the Christmas spirit more out then the English ones in my opinion.
That Mexican Posadas reminds me of a movie I've seen.. no idea which movie though.
And it wasn't boring at all! We were just gonna read some pages, and then write notes. I didn't write notes. I know from experiance that I won't even look at them.
So, for the rest of the day, I did whatever I wanted. Like everyone else did, for the most part. This has been one of the best schooldays for ages now! And I ended up writing two new chapters on the Harry Potter fanfiction I'm working on! It's now on five chapters and the prologue, which I've posted on fanfiction.net.
And, tomorrow, I get to open my Smarties Calendar! I can hardly wait.
Some Christmas traditions, eh?
Well, in my family, it's a tradition that we celebrate Christmas at my grandma's house. I always go over there at the 23rd, after I've helped my mother decorating the tree. Then, when I get to my grandma, I help her and grandpa decorate their tree!
But in Norway in general... Well, there's the traditional TV! We have Three nuts for Cinderella. It's actually in another language, but the voices are quiet, and there's a guy talking over their voices in Norwegian. No one will ever dub it properly, because it's tradition. The show has been on the TV since before I was born. It also is a lot of King Arthur movies going. Then you have one that always shows on the 23rd! It's not really a christmas movie, but it's always been shown in Christmas times. It's called "Flåklypa Grand Prix". It's released with the English title, "Pinchcliffe Grand Prix". It's a Norwegian motion-animated film. I highly recommend it!
One of the ones I like the most though, is "Reisen til Julestjernen". It was made in 1976. The title is translated to "A Journey to the Christmas Star". I love that movie! It's so nice, and always gets me in the highest of Christmas spirit. Also recommended if you ever come across it!
But perhaps the Norwegian, or Scandinavian, Christmas Tradition that stands out from the English one, is when we open our presents. While you open them at Christmas Morning, we get to open them all on Christmas Eve, after we've eaten dinner! I remember how torture it was for me to wait till after dinner when I was a kid! So I usually got to open three - four presents before dinner.
