Gion wants to know when you're going to get rest Mrs. Serenity, since after all it's not fair you don't get some rest yourself. Daemon explained this cheerfuilly.

Serenity winced a bit. Just call me Serenity, please, she requested. Just plain Serenity ...
Though some people would have insisted on Lady Aldrich.
To Gion, she smiled and said, "If you don't mind, I can ride on your shoulder and sleep," she suggested.
She wouldn't ben any extra weight, after all.

Gion smiled and nodded, then put his food down and signed, Of course it would be all right.
He picked up his waybread and continued eating once more. he felt a little awkward around his mother; after all, she had been absent for most of his life: but he was happy to have found her again.
However, he was determined to teach her sign language.

Ah... okay Serenity. Daemon replied happily at that.

Serenity smiled. Thank you, she thought to Daemon. And now ... I'm exhausted, I'm going to sleep now ... But I'm sure I'll talk to you later.
And she changed into a little bird and hopped to Gion's shoulder, then changed into a tiny kitten and curled up against his neck. She fell asleep almost immediately.

Daemon wondered where she went to... or for that matter how could she sleep. Did it have something to do with her being able to change?

Gion resheathed the sword, careful not to bump the kitten that was now sleeping on his shoulder, and smiled softly.
Would it be weird of me to say that my Mother's cute? he asked Daemon. And before you freak out -- she's a kitten sleeping on my shoulder at the moment.
He chuckled and pulled on his pack, then crawled toward the snowcave's exit.

Daemon chuckled at that comment.
Well since she's a kitten in that context it wouldn't be that weird. Only if you really think about it.

Gion chuckled and blinked as he stepped out into the open air. The sky was clouded over, but it was light outside and it wasn't snowing, so he was content.
That was, until he saw how much it had snowed overnight. He groaned inwardly, then started climbing up the side of the snow drift. It was huge ... at least fifteen feet high - three times Gion's own height.
I hope she has a good sense of balance when she's a sleeping kitten, he thought dryly, punching a handhold into the side of the drift.

Cats generally do, they can sleep in the most amazing places.
Daemon replied back.
I take it more climbing for today?

Gion took another few steps up the side of the drift.
At the moment, yes, he replied. But if it's like this everywhere then I think we might be able to just walk across all of it ... provided that it's solid enough, of course. It's ... crazy ... I wonder if it's always like this.

Your mother said that the snow has come early and hard this year.
Daemon replied back a bit worriedly.
And it hasn't even started yet.

Wonderful, Gion thought to Daemon - though his tone was anything but pleased. And did she say how much longer it was to the Borderlands? How many more days?
He spit out some snow that fell into his mouth and continued to climb.

Two weeks unless we can speed it up a bit.
Daemon replied.
But as long as you're at full health, and start taking shifts with her, it shouldn't take any longer.

Shifts? Gion repeated, his muscles straining as he continued to climb. What sort of shifts? Watching shifts? Or traveling shifts?
He reached the top and pulled himself up, then sat to regain his breath. He needed to work on his climbing abilities, apparently ...
