Was he there yet? How about now? Now? ... Now? The Voice must have gotten sick of him thinking like that, and it boomed one more time into his head. Those words were conflicting. Why did it promise only disappointment if he went any further? He'd just been promised everything he'd ever wanted.. Bastion was starting to worry that the Voice was a dirty, dirty liar. So, he was picking up the strange twist of this floor as well. They couldn't speak, but even if they could. Yes, no use in that their hearing was still shot.
But, at least they could continue the journey together, perhaps keep it as a little game again before it was their end. And then he would understand fully and not be too angry - especially her for not telling him when they had the chance. Maple smiled, because it felt right to and she cocked her head to the side to signal she was ready to go.
He was quicker than her this time, even though he had traveled so many stairs already to catch up. Perhaps next time she could have the lead.

Now that he was doubting things, Bastions mood started to dip. If he got to the top, and all he received was disappointment.. then what other way would he have of fighting for the right to life? Certainly not jumping off. That was definitely counterproductive. Only a quick glance was given to the door, so when the faerie entered the room to only find more stairs, she let out a most unladylike scream. Except actually she didn't because her powers of speech had since been rendered useless. Not even the throb of vocal chords in work could be felt and instead she quietly, and rather meekly, closed her mouth and continued on up. To be in a "play" as the pillar had said? To fight? She...wasn't sure...didn't want to believe it. A fragment. Not real. That's what they said she was. And that broke her heart in a way. Still.
