Barret, because he's Barret.

Really. stare
OK, so it is my belief that laser cannons beat out most of Barret's weapons easily (the exceptions being Barret's own). MegaMan, besides, pretty much has super-strength and super-speed, can sort of teleport, and has a bunch of extra abilities, including copying his enemies' abilities, plus one involving firing his forearms at the enemy, which I admit could be detrimental to his chances, but he doesn't have to use it. ninja Then, if you want to count MegaMan X, he's got a beam sword, crazy-awesome armor that does everything from make him faster to protect him from spikes, and so on...
There. Please someone argue.

All your reasons fail!? Except Raven! Cuz she actually gives me a reason that makes sense?!
Favoritism is not a Valid reason for someone to win a Fight?! The Whole reason I created the Reason for your vote Rule was because people wouldn't actually take the !*)@!@(@ time and Think the Fight over?! It's also why I HATE VINCENT??!

I'm gonna have to agree with raven. Mega man has way more abilities than Barret.

I would say Barret, but after his horrific performance in FFAC I think he would need someone to constanly save him from something during a fight.

Well. I'm going with red mage. Black mages are most effective when they've got someone to cover their backs and protect them, but they're nearly helpless alone. While a black mage is busy casting a spell, the red mage and his (or her) handy-dandy sword can cut in, no pun intended. Even if the black mage gets a shot in, red mages can heal themselves, so for the black mage, it's really an all-or-nothing situation if you can get a big spell off in the beginning.
By the way, I'm thinking logically, not strict turn-based, despite the fact that the only true "red mages" are in strict turn-based games.

Gotta go Black Mage, since we are talking about a 1-on-1 fight with a red mage(I am assuming they are of an equal level). Much better Offensive magic capabilites will completely own the red mage. Even if the red mage survives the initial black mage spell, he will then have to use his modest healing spells to recover while the black mage continuously casts more spells. If the red mage chooses not to heal and just cast offensive magic, once again he is no match for the black mage.

This is hard one. But I'd go for Red Mage. More variety and capacity to keep oneself alive, but that would be close combat. Might be on luck, or rather, witch one gets the upper hand at the start.

Soujii, you've got a good point, but you're forgetting that red mages are also pretty good physical fighters. Black mages simply do not fare well against physical attacks.

Red mage does have the advantage of close range... Though Black mage has many more spells that he can cast at a foe like red mage. Not to mention if you play Tactics 'Double Cast' ><

Ooh, nice strategy, unless you've got magic that ignores it. Then the red mage can't recover from it, either.
