Yeah, I made it a while ago.

Where'd you get that idea? I'm a total convention whore.

Even though I hate most of the stuff that goes on during them.

I'd like to b***h about the signs.

They were EVERYWHERE at Otakon. I mean, it wasn't that bad at AnimeNEXT, although we left Saturday afternoon.

Signs are one of the many reasons I can't stand cons. Anime Weekend Atlanta has done the magnificent thing of banning them this year. AWA is great overall. It's the official 'get your a** plastered' con, or so I hear. I won't be able to attend. crying

The only signs I condone of and use are the ones that let everyone know it's Emo Sunday. We need to spread the word somehow, after all.

How far have you gone for a con? I'm only willing to go to ones along the East Coast and ONLY if a band I like is playing.

I had sooo much fun at Otakon, though. I think a good band just amplifies the whole excitement of cons.

The signs really didn't pop up like crazy until Saturday night, after the concert. I think pretty much everyone started to leave Saturday. I took it as sort of a ritual. The dealers room was killer Sunday. I guess no one really goes there until Sunday for the deals. That also marked the beginning of our actual interest in manga. gonk

I don't go out of state for cons, yet. Most of the time it's hard enough getting a ride to a local one. sweatdrop But when I can drive, I'm totally hitting up AWA, Tekkoshocon, and maybe A-kon.

Yeah, I mostly see signs on Saturday, because that's the day when there are most attendees. The dealer's room is usually like that, too, because all the stores start charging a bunch off of their stuff since packing everything up is a big hassle. I don't really care about that, though. I can get free anime and manga at the store I work at, and my friends from JPop House usually give me deals, especially when I'm short on cash anyway.

Hey, there's always Amtrak or Greyhound. 3nodding My sister and I took the train to NJ for AnimeNEXT and my dad drove us down to Maryland for Otakon but we took Amtrak home (and it was ******** expensive, too!).

You work at an anime and manga store?! God, is it fun? I can't imagine it. I'd probably be pissed at all the annoying people. There's one here called Quakerhead and they sell fansubbed anime (I bought the WHOLE RK series there, fansubbed). The guy is an a*****e, though, and he kept trying to convince me that the Miyu CD they had was the official one (it was actually Son May).

I hate anime stores.

Jpop House I'm okay with. The people who work at that booth are pretty nice. They don't have much stuff that I want, though. I remember seeing the workers walk by as we waited in line to go into the dealers room and I could tell by looking at them that they were definitely going to be selling J-rock.

The problem is, my parents are horribly paranoid and overprotective, so they'd never let me go out of state anywhere without them. :\

I hate working at Anime Pavilion. My boss, Steve, is the biggest a*****e I've ever met. Everybody who's ever worked for him despises him. But the upside is he pays for hotel, food, and my con pass if I work 18+ hours or something like that. Plus I get free s**t. Even though the X DVD I got from him didn't have the ******** disk in it! Augh, just thinking about Steve and AP pisses me off.

Hahah, yeah, the people that work at JPop House definitely dress the part, especially Richard. He was at Otakon, so you might've seen him. He has a bunch of visual kei-like clothes he got from Japan, and he wears them at every single con. There's one H. Naoto top he has that has all these weird phrases written on it. I forgot what they were, but they were definitely Engrish.com worthy.

What are signs?
PostPosted: Mon Sep 06, 2004 8:46 pm

Oh yeah, I forgot the whole age thing. My sister and I are both legal (well, she is now).

The hotel expenses really ******** killed me for Otakon. AnimeNext wasn't that bad at $179 in comparison. I think the outrageous price for Harbor Court wouldn't have been so bad if I had known that L'arc was there. So... 18 hours total or for one day?

I don't think I saw Richard. There was nobody worth talking about when I went to the dealer's room Sunday. Unless he's that Asian guy. You have a picture of him?

Nalfein: http://images.cosplay.com/showphoto.php?photo=193973 That's the only example I could find, the more annoying ones are the ones that say stuff like, "Glomp me!" or "Will yaoi for money!". I have bad memories with the latter.

xmkatx: The trick to not spending much on hotels is rooming up with a bunch of people and splitting the price. Usually, my friends pay only about $20 a night for a really nice room when they do that.

The Asian guy was probably Harry, he's the guy that owns JPop House. This is Richard, with Rachel. And this is Harry.

Oh god, a lot of the signs I see are just terrible! I don't see how that came to be a ritual at cons, but when I find out who started it, they better be glad I haven't gotten a Walther yet.

The reason I don't do that is because 1. I don't know people who go to cons and 2. I don't want to share a bathroom with anyone I don't really know. I think the Harbor Court charged me like $240 a night or something. The rooms weren't that great and my sister and I trashed the bathroom really bad. We felt bad for the maid and hope they had bleach to clean up the hair dye.

I don't remember seeing Richard, but my sister said she did see him and he was 'the only white guy at the booth' and that 'he had blond hair'. We saw Harry at AnimeNext. Someone took a picture of him while he was trying to process my credit card.
PostPosted: Mon Sep 06, 2004 9:15 pm

I don't think Richard's hair is naturally blonde. His eyebrows are too dark.

At Anime Festival Orlando, I saw these two girls standing by the JPop House booth, totally blocking the way for everyone. They waited until Harry turned around to get something, then they took pictures of his a** and ran off giggling. And this happens at every single con JPop House goes to. There used to an LJ community for him called 'the_hot_guy', but last time I checked, it got deleted.

I'm so glad Steve is a short, fat, slimy b*****d, so I don't have to worry about AP's booth being overcrowded with fangirls. 3nodding

Was Steve at Otakon? I made it a point to visit every single booth there. Post a picture if you have one.
