Ben's face softened to a smile and then a laugh escapes his lips.
Well...I was going to be a doctor...started the school but never finished...I couldn't keep up. But I learned the important stuff and had a caring mother to learn from.
Ben shakes his head then takes a breath in.
Well...I am not going to just fire her as soon as she shows...I mean...I am not a jerk...I just need to know if she can work here or not.

*Synge was a bit confused as to why you were laughing, but she simply shrugged at your answer.*
I see, I guess that explains. Well, I'll know who to go to whenever I'm sick. Hopefully it won't be too often, you might get tired of seeing me all the time.
*She meant this to be a completely serious comment, although it was one that would normally be made in jest. She nodded in response to you claiming not to be a jerk, she would have to agree on that one. She uncrossed her feet and slide back down into her chair a bit while stretching her legs out under the table. She had sat across from you so she angled her legs to the side so as not to bump into yours. She recrossed her feet and felt relaxed in her new position.*

Heh...I think seeing you more often would be a good thing...but...I guess I can't ask so much out of you so soon. Right?
His words were light spoken but could easily carry a much heavier meaning than he led on. When you adjusted your feet Ben doesn't seem to notice, he takes one more drag off his smoke and then extinguishes it. He was taking alot more chances than he used to.
So...did you read any good stories out of that book from the library yesterday?

*On the outside she didn't seem to notice that you were saying that you wanted to spend time with her, but on the inside she most definitely noticed. She was a bit surprised and felt embarrassed, but hid it well.*
Oh, well then...
*She didn't say anymore on the subject and quickly responded to the book question with enthusiasm.*
I read my favorite story for the Grimm's Fairytales, it was a nice way to fall asleep. Thanks for letting me borrow the book.

Ben noticed the hesitation and change in body language and decided he should do his best to soften the blow.
Yeah...I mean...it is great taking care of someone...see...after what you told me about your eye, I have a hunch that it was the cause of the pain...it would make all of those things happen if it hurt alot. If that is the case, I doubt you got proper care for it before and I could at least offer a little of that...but...you know...I wouldn't do that without asking you.
Really there was much more to it than that, Ben had enjoyed the time as much as you had but he knew that would be too much to take all at once.
Ahhh...Grimm's Fairy Tales...it's a good thing that not as many people have the full works of the Brothers Grimm...they write some really dark stuff. What did you read?
His interest was piqued as he listened for even more information from someone who was much more closed at first.

*She sat silently listening to you carrying on about how he wanted to take care of her and her pain. She secretly doubted anyone had the power to stop the pain, but she nodded along anyway so as not to hurt his feelings. However, she felt it was alright to tell him a little about the pain in general.*
It is a problem honestly, the bad part is that I don't plan on it ever really going away. The wound isn't exactly an average one, so healing really isn't an option completely.
*She stopped there and brought her thoughts to the story she had read last night. She had always known that is was a strange favorite to have, but she couldn't' help but love it for no particular reason and she doubted you would have read it yourself*
I read "Rumpelstilkin". Have you ever read it? I love it, although I have no idea why really.

Ben made no facial expressions to display what his mind was thinking as you talked. He didn't know any more about it, the last time he looked at it was very short and he almost felt like he was doing something bad by moving it without you knowing.
Well...I mean...I don't know what it's like but even though you can't...well...restore an eye, you can at least make the pain in the socket go away. But...I know that is something you don't like talking about so I should stop...sorry.
Ben's tone was much different this time than it was last time he offered an apology, his voice sounded like he had a deep concern for bothering you rather than a slight one as last time.
When you mention the story, Ben smiles slightly at the story, he liked that one but preferred his other choice.
Yeah, I read it. In fact, I read it in that very book, A Child's Collection of Household Tales. That one just shows you why you sholuld never be cocky. But my favorite is Rapunzel...a man challenging a wall no man could climb and taking a chance that he could make it on the smallest way around that wall...all for the one he loved...great story.
As Ben spoke, his voice was the same but his eyes indicated that something else might be underlying in his statement.

*Synge didn't know how she felt about talking about her eye with you anymore, it wasn't like before. Somehow something had changed without her realizing it, but she decided to let the subject go anyway, as that was what he expected to happen. So, she simply nodded and said little.*
Yes, but don't be sorry.
*She noted his smile and was glad to see that you had actually read her beloved story from childhood. She was interested to hear his favorite and wondered what it said about his personality. This was really something she was curious about, although it was the kind of thing that wouldn't have interested her at all before. She hadn't even analyzed her own favorite story, she just liked the imagery it brought to her mind. She shifted in her seat and sat up straight again, accidentally bumping one of your feet with her own as she pulled her legs back up, she looked embarrassed a bit.*
Ah, sorry about that...Rapunzel you say? That's a good one, although I always thought that would be a lot of trouble to have so much hair. I think I picked the story with the least amount of love in it somehow.
I'm sure you have something to do from your list so I won't keep you if you need to go.

Don't be sorry? Hehe...I'll hold you to that.
He shifted in his chair and when you happen to touch him with your boot he didn't argue much, in fact he just shrugged it off.
No big deal. But yeah...I like the stories with love overcoming impossible odds...kind of like that...ya know? Anyway...I don't have anything I want to do but I do need to go write this stuff down about this case before it's too late...I will try to be back in later...
Without much of another word, he emptied his glass of water in his mouth, took it to the kitchen and dropped it off before heading to his office.
(( I will try to be back on later. Things are getting interesting! Buh Bye for now! ))

*As was her way she kept silent until Ben was out of sight after he said his goodbyes. She wondered about everything that had happened today with him. She was curious to find out more about his strange habits, but wasn't sure if she would ever learn more than she already had. Not that she was one to talk, she hadn't filled him in on a great deal of her life. Shrugging the thought away she sighed and looked around the empty room. Now she wondered where everyone had gone and if they would ever come back. She had believed for a moment that this place might have some life to it for a while, but she now had her doubts. Feeling a bit bored she stood up and stepped outside for some fresh air. Instead of walking off into the woods like she normally would she sat down outside of the tavern and took in the fresh air. Soon she was laying down on her back and enjoying the sun.*
((Alright, I'll be around! Hope to see you. *huggles*))

*Synge opened her eyes to see the stars high above her. She sat up and sighed, realizing she had fallen asleep outside. After her conversation with Ben about sleeping outside she had been feeling slightly embarrassed about her habit and wanted to try and avoid it. She at least glad to see that no one had noticed her, or at least she assumed because no one woke her up. She brushed her clothes off and headed inside to see it empty yet again. After looking around for a minute she remembered her book upstairs and decided to go to her room. She took her boots off at the bottom of the stairs and carried them to her room, where she set them on the floor with her things. After changing into something for sleeping she got into bed and starting to read another tale, this time she went straight for "Rapunzel".*

*Synge woke up with her light still on and the book on her stomach. She must have fallen asleep while reading. She sits up all the way and picks up the book to see what she was reading before passing out. She is happy to see that she made it all the way through "Rapunzel", just barely, before falling asleep.*
*Getting out of bed she set the book on her nightstand and thought about the story. She had never really thought about the love aspect of the story before, and had always focused on the more negative parts. She was reminded of a conversation she had once back when she first came to this place, at which time she expressed her lack of interest in love affairs of any kind. However, being around the relationships she was she had started to grow curious and ask questions. The idea of being in love had just started to be something interesting, but after going home all these thoughts died away yet again.*
*She shrugged to herself as she stretched in front of the mirror. She decided it would be fine to stay in her sleeping clothes for a bit as they were just so comfortable. After fixing her hair a bit she left her room and headed downstairs to see no one was around. She went behind the counter and grabbed a glass of water and took a seat at a nearby table.*

Ben awoke much later in the day than usual, he had spent many long hours looking over notes and documentum about healing one who has lost an eye, so much so that he barely went to sleep before the sun came up. When he awoke, he quickly took a shower and changed into his normal clothes.
Once he was cleaned up, he made his way out to the tavern to find Synge sitting at a table and nursing the water. He spoke loud enough to be heard from down the hall, the sudden noise might catch Synge off guard.
Hey there!
