"Your a trained psycho-analyst. I'm sure you can figure something out. Otherwise, just make your reports about how the serums are affecting them mentally. Thats all, Dr. Frost."

"I am a psychoanalyst, not a psychiatrist or psychologist, Dr. Lockheart. I do not 'counsel'. I don't even own a couch. I place individuals in situations, be they physical or chemical, and note their responses. I thought that was the reason Dr. Moreau brought me here. These subjects are not going to trust me enough to tell me their mental state without considerable manipulation. And some of them won't even then. These things are easier through chemistry. Nothing in what I prescribed them would interfere with the serums. It was simply to build trust and spark their minds to bring their subconscious to the forefront. So that they _might_ choose to speak about it. But if you wish me to sit around measuring how many times they blink during an interview, I suppose that is what I must do." She turned back to the centrifuge and her notes.

"Then I guess so." Aubrey said, trying to hide a smirk. "Have a nice day, Dr. Frost."
She tossed her hair and turned on her heels, letting the door slam behind her.

Moreau sat in his lab office. Going over some notes. Something had been bothering him lately. An idea forming on the cusp of his mind. He wasn't sure though how feasible it'd be. Luckily though, the person who was most likely to be the most helpful just became... availible.
"Send her in." he buzzed the receptionist who hit a button and the doors opened for Dr. Frost.

Marlena stormed into the office, her eyes ablaze with a chill sort of fire. She had her arms crossed over her chest, her jaw clenched tightly as she stood a yard or so from Moreau. "I would like an explanation as to why you brought me here, Doctor, as according to Dr. Lockheart the projects I have thus worked tirelessly on for the benefit of your program are no longer permissable, and has suggested that I am merely here to act as some bloody guidance counselor to the subjects. I sincerely hope that you do not plan to waste my talents on something so mundane."

"Of course not... you'll have to forgive Dr. Lockheart, she often suffers from an affliction called a concience." Moreau smiled and shrugged. "I didn't stop her though because I was, I admit, worried about the safety of some of my subjects. I can't afford to loose any of them and some of your expiriments were dangerous to each of them individually too much."
Moreau smiled with a wicked grin and leaned forward."But, I have a new project for you to work on. One that part of your findings will be reported to Dr. Lockheart and part, directly to me."

A finely manicured brow arched skyward as the Doctor spoke. "I assure you I meant no harm to the subjects that would be lasting, or otherwise interfere with your work. I should make it clear that it was Doctor Lockheart herself who neglected to realize Miss MacNeal needed Zoloft. I thought she must have been aware and been holding off giving it, so I didn't give her real Zoloft. Her intereference has no doubt ruined any rapport I was building with the girl."
At the mention of the new project, some of the ice thawed, but there was a definite air of distrust dancing about her. "Do tell, Doctor..." she gestured for him to continue, leaning against a bookshelf almost casually.

"We've recongized, certain... mental traits comming out in many of the subjects. Related to the animal they are turning into, some of which obviously must have to do with their gentics, whether this is confidence, like Ms. Cassenwari, savageness, like Ms. Regiel, or the one I'm most interested in... blind loyalty like Mr. Calder and to a lesser extent I imagine Mr. Maurlias." Moreau paused, letting this sink in for a moment.
"Now imagine us being able to modify someone genetically, without completely changing their race, to include those things. Imagine how much more of a benifit a lifetime project like this would be with blindly loyal security guards and lab staffing... an almost pet like mentality." Moreau smiled. "Do you see my point?"

Marlena mulled his words over silently for a long moment before she pushed her weight off the bookshelf and began to pace the office, rubbing her chin. "Yes, there would be definite benefit in that, but I'm not sure how I can assist you in isolating an instinct trait, Doctor Moreau. I'm not a geneticist after all. I breed trust and loyalty through conditioning." She stopped to study the man. "So what part would you have me play in this new experiment?"

"I need you to figure out how much is instinct, and how much is not... particurally the subjects displaying strong mental traits. Also, I'd be curious as to what kind of conditioning could be used to enhance these already genetic traits further." Moreau pulled out a file folder and handed it to her.
"The section on studying the subjects that have displayed the strong mental traits, that you'll be responsible for reporting to Dr. Lockheart. The second research though, as to conditioning and enhancing these personality traits, particurally the subjects with loyalty complexes, you'll be reporting to me. That part of the project should be secret, but if it comes up... that folder contains the project details and orders. You'll have me to fall back on." Moreau stood up.
"Oh, and avoid attempting to condition Mr. Reedy, we don't need him even more homicidal. Study yes, condition further, no. That is all."

Marlena accepted the folder and she nodded slowly. "I'll get this read over and start on the experiements immediately Doctor." She turned to leave, then paused, turning back partly and looking at Moreau over one shoulder.
"A question if I may? You know that analyzing human behavior is my specialty, and Dr. Lockheart is behaving towards me as if threatened. Is the welfare of the subjects that important to her, or is she...overly attached to one...or to an employee? There seems to be a bit of territoriality there."

"Normally, I would inform you that was none of your concern. But it is not a secret at the moment anyway. She and I are engagged. She is mine... I suspect she worries I might have growing interests in you though." Moreau tapped his fingers and smiled to Dr. Frost.

Marlena let out a little snort of surprise and her eyes widened marginally. "I see. Well, I'd not expected that. I didn't think her to be someone that would appeal to someone like you, Doctor. I thought you more like me, and I have passion for nothing save my research. Of that I assure you." She smirked faintly, though there was less ice in her voice than normal.

"Ahhh... but imagine having someone who shares those similar interests with you. Indulges you, and your research both at the same time. Someone who is equally intelligent." Moreau grinned.
"It's not a bad feeling... I think you'll find... Dr. Frost. Research first of course."

Marlena's face contorted in something akin to horror. "I hardly think so, Doctor. Relationships are distractions and burdens which hinder scientific advancement at every step. I do hope she is more intelligent than she is softhearted, for your sake." It's more than plain that Marlena's only love in this world is science.
