How about yourself?

Though I am very excited for this years Yule! I got a good feeling about it! I've been singing Christmas songs since October!

I've been trained to not bust out the christmas music until after thanksgiving..

I'm so excited for the Yule ball though - I have my outfit ready! smile

Your Yule outfit is awesome! But then again, what can a person expect from you, but the awesome?

I'm afraid that I've only learned how to not burst into song until after September.. Since that's the month I have a birthday.

Wish I could learn to wait till at least November!

I had to learn the hard way - my roommates tied me to a chair with a gait belt *laughs*

I was torturing them.. It's a good thing it was all in fun!

*Laughs* That sounded fun!

I remember Christmas two years ago.. There didn't exist a Christmas Spirit. At all.. o.O

But last year, I was also singing Christmas songs in October!

I seem to be particularly fond of the Norwegian Christmas song "Musevisa" (The Mice Song) and "På Loven Sitter Nissen" (On the farm attic the Goblin/Sprite/Santa Clause Sits".

You see, in Norway, we used to put out porridge to "Nissene". They were short creatures that lived in people's farms. They were nice to the animals if you fed them at Christmas, but if you didn't, they mistreated the animals. Of course, the porridge was eaten, but that was by bums.

Later, when the Santa was invented, children wants to put out porridge to the Santa Claus. So, the song "På Loven Sitter Nissen", is about a Nisse, sitting on the attic in a farm, wanting to eat his porridge. But the rats wants to have a piece as well. And then, since he's such a grumpy one, he threaten them, that he'll get the cat up if they don't stop. And they, being terrified, runs away!

Interesting - I've never really heard of other national christmas songs.. smile

I just sing the usual USA holiday songs, but my favorites are from this trio of christmas cd's (Maybe this Christmas, Maybe this Christmas Too, Maybe this Christmas Tree) that are by some indie artists.

Hello! I am new here.
PostPosted: Wed Nov 28, 2007 9:22 pm

Welcome Two_Thestrals! I hope that you enjoy the guild - we're a friendly bunch!

I'm glad that you were sorted into Ravenclaw - we're a smart but friendly bunch. Plan on getting involved - whether it's through the threads, the events, or chatting up with the members!

If you haven't read the first post of this thread, I highly recommend it - as well as the "Welcome" and "House Points" threads. Also, keep in mind the Guild rules (in the Welcome thread) and the literacy standard of the guild.

I'm your prefect *curtsies* and I'm more than willing to answer a question that you might have. You can either post here or send me a PM. LadyHealingHands is our Head of House - she's currently on a mini-hiatus until Dec 1 due to some situations in the muggle world that she needs to attend to. She'll be back soon and then we'll soon have the Yule events to look forward to.

Don't forget to answer the riddle to gain complete access to the common room! (read the first few posts in the thread)

My favorite one is.. err.. I don't quite remember the name of it.. But it was something like "Nå tenner vi et lys i kveld". It means "We now lit a light tonight". It's the song we sing every Sunday. You know in Advent?

I dunno, I've just always loved that song!

We used to lit a light every day at school after the first Advent. Then two after the second, and so on. I loved those times!

Arghh. I'm sorry I haven't been on lately, between random snatches of internet failure, broken heaters (ugh) and too many trimester finals, I haven't had a chance to come onto gaia...
x.x
I have to raise my ancient civilizations grade by 4% in 3 weeks...so I might be a bit busy for a while...><
Well, at least winter break (for me) is in 2 weeks! =D
-dies from lack of sleep-
><
Oh, have you guys read the fanfiction Stranger Trilogy? (It's not quite a trilogy yet, there's only one full one and 6 chapters of the 2nd 'book') but it's really good...takes a long time to read though (800+ pages!). Here's a link: http://www.fanfiction.net/s/1962685/1/A_Stranger_in_an_Unholy_Land

That's totally fine turayza - we do understand that there is a world that intrudes sometimes.

I'm SO freaking excited about the new store update.. I want quite a few things with not enough cash to get them all. >_< Looks like I need to play oodles of jigsaw or big. *laughs*

Ah! I remember I read that fanfiction when it had just six chapters! It's kinda amazing to see how much it's grown.

I didn't see that many things I wanted to buy. So I'm cool. I'm gonna buy the things I want.

Anyway, we got English the whole day at school today! We're preparing for the English tentamen on Monday. (Tentamen is a huge, important test that lasts all day. You could say that they're preperation tests to the exam.)

And I'll get to go home after 4th lesson! *dances*

I am so sorry that I haven't been on also...ehh, I'm extremely stressed about school and stuff like that. I have 2 essays to write in 2 weeks! I have 3 music-related public events that I have to go to by next week. I have to also finish an huge project for my japanese class by next friday. So you could say I have no time for the internet! lol speaking of christmas music, I've always loved Noel and Holy nights and songs like that. I have never heard of any other christmas songs..especially from Norway, so that is awesome Kitsune! The only other songs I know that are not American are the ones that are Mexican...and those are the ones that we sing in posadas. Posadas are basically the re-enactment of Mary trying to find shelter and being turned away before Jesus was born. You sings songs back and forth...like there is some people outside the door (a bit like christmas carolers) singing to be let in the house, and the people inside open the door and they sing back and forth some more. It ends with a Rosary (since its a Catholic tradition) and we eat Posole right afterwards! yummy! Those are the basically only mexican christmas songs I know, other than that, the american ones..
About the english thing...englisht all day? That seems really long and boring (no offence) but that would be like having Japanese class all day long..which I would just die (I am so glad that I am not taking it next semester! biggrin ) Anyways, I just have stresses over class and then what my whole major requires me to take.....ehh, satistical psychology! crying
What other traditions do all of you do for the holidays?
