"That's the friendliest place for a phoenix. Flamma." Xetrina said, the last word catching the attention of the Fire Spirit guarding the path to the Fire Wing. Looking to the spirit, she spoke in a ghostly whisper. The spirit nodded, and stepped to the side, to allow Akia and Kioni to pass. "Do keep in mind that water is not allowed in the fire wing. If you wish to wash, you will have to do so in the Neutral Wing. Though, if the phoenix is not with you, the Water Wing will welcome you, and you can have more privacy there." As she finished speaking, she slipped into the bloody pool in the center of the room. "And so you know, I don't drink from sentients unless they willingly allow me to."
((There are no 'bathrooms' in any wings other than the Water Wing, and the Neutral Wing, to protect the balance. Instead, the rooms in each area clean using their elements. Since Azurite's room is in the darkness wing, what he thinks of as 'dirt' rapidly decays off of him. Also, note that water taken into the darkness wing turns foul))

Akia nodded in understanding and then bowed..."Thank you for your hospitality, if you excuse me, I'm going to go rest in the Fire Wing..." she finished and then walked toward the Fire Wing...looking at the Fire Spirit for a moment..."Such a ominous creature..." she thought...and then walked past the spirit and went into the Fire Wing Room, Kioni sitting patiently on her shoulder...Akia was feeling a little better than before but still quite akward and nervous...and as she looked around the Fire Wing, she was surprised by how the room had so much luxury and brilliance in color and furniture, the covers and curtains reflected the colors of flames, the carpet a fiery red, the walls all a brilliant golden yellow, the furniture varnished with an orange tint...it was such a calming room...Kioni noticed a coat hanger and claimed it as his resting place, even though the colors would give most a threatening or ferocious feeling or look...she laid down on the bed feeling calm but as she looked up to the yellow golden ceiling...thoughts of confusion an dispair filled her head..."What now? What do I do now? How long will I be welcome here...Will I ever be able to make my family proud? Will I ever become stronger..." she tried to shake the thoughts away...for now...she needed to rest...she was now very exhausted and laying on the bed brought that out more than ever before...so she closed her eyes and rested...Kioni watched over Akia for a while..then rested...standing stoich as if alert, but his eyes were closed and his head was tucked into one of his long elegant wings...

Zaxoth Arturos A newspaper XX / XX / XXXX Earlier this week, a comet landed just outside the small town of Kalm. Shin-Ra officials, immediately arriving on the scene, quickly closed off the area, keeping civilians from seeing what they were doing. One spokesman had this to say, "Our Science Department had been watching this comet approach for weeks, following an abnormal solar flare. They believe that, in studying this 'sunstone,' we might better be able to understand the universe we live in, maybe even ways to convert sunlight into an energy source more plentiful than even Mako." Heavy equipment soon arrived, passing through a security checkpoint. As the comet required hours to cool off enough for it to be secured, the team was on site for quite some time. Local astronomers commented, "Up until now, all comets we have been able to spot were made of ice, or some other deep-space debris. This object, having originated from our own sun, causes us to wonder if this may be how comets are actually made." Upon obtaining the comet, the Shin-Ra team quickly dispersed, hauling the object back to their main laboratory in the Shin-Ra tower in Midgar, which is still, for the most part, being reconstructed. No further information was given, as they apparently wanted to keep this as confidential as possible, but one word was heard being muttered by some of the Science Department staff returned to their vehicles, giving some possible idea as to what tests await the comet. Materia. Weeks after the discovery of the meteor, the Shin-Ra science team had stripped away the brittle exterior, revealing a smooth, polished orb, easily larger than the huge materia had been. This orb, black by color, emitted a dull, deep red glow. Locked away in a vault, which had been vacuum-sealed, just in case, the orb rested silently. In the mean time, Shin-Ra was developing a test site at the edge of the swamp near the Chocobo farm, where they would be able to test their newfound trinket, to determine if it truly is materia. At the edge of the swamp near the Chocobo Farm, a massive platform had been built, an indentation measured to fit the orb having been placed in the center. Along the inner surface of the indentation were set various devices for channeling mako energy, as well as electrical systems to properly apply the needed energies to use mako, only greatly enlarged. A few feet away from the base of the platform, a control station had been constructed, and various Shin-Ra scientists and technical staff were going about their final checklists, while Shin-Ra guards secured not only the platform and control station, but a several-mile pipeline that ran from Midgar City to the platform, as well, said pipeline set to funnel Mako from the Midgar reactors. Meanwhile, the scientists within the Shin-Ra tower were having some difficulty moving the orb, as they had to be securely gloved and covered in Hazmat-style garb. This was learned after the first few people were unlucky enough to touch the orb with bare skin. In common with materia, the orb contained memories. However, the memories this orb contained were obviously so horrid that it drove whoever touched it beyond the brink of insanity, even to the point where they had to be tied down to avoid gouging out their own eyes and ears in order to stop the horrible visions and sound they were subjected to. This was only found out after the second. The individuals were now in solitary confinement, future subjects themselves. In any case, the orb was at last set on a transport, securely tied-down, and on its way to the test site. Within a few hours, the caravan had arrived at the test site, and a mobile crane was used to lift the orb onto the platform. Several hazmat-suited personnel were atop the platform to steady the orb as it was lowered into the indentation, and in a matter of moments, all was ready. All personnel atop the tower vacated the area, and stood within a hastily-built bombshelter, from which Shin-Ra technicians, under the careful eye of the scientists, operated the machinery, preparing to feed a large flow of mako into the orb, to see what sort of weaponry could be developed. Unbeknownst to them, or rather ultimately unnoticed by anyone, the moment the orb had been lowered into place, the wind stopped blowing through this area, and all clouds faded away, dipping below the horizon, so that the sky, as far as the eye could see, was perfectly cloudless. No wild animals, no monsters, not even insects made their presence known as Shin-Ra prepared to unleash whatever power the orb held. ((Posts concerning my events up until thus far, in case anyone bothers noticing what I am about to post and wants to read back on what's gone on before.)) The site became quite lively as the Shin-Ra staff worked ceaselessly to get everything ready. It all culminated with one event, in which the power switch to the site was thrown. The computers hummed to life, each showing a different display, monitoring the orb itself. Another monitor revealed the level of mako feed, which was currently zero. Monitors showing external energy and heat were unresponsive, as it seemed even the sun refused to warm the sphere. However, monitors showing internal heat were going off the charts, and remained constant. As far as mass and density goes, however, it seemed that the orb, as heavy as it had been to lift, was completely empty within. Unconcerned with this, as they had already determined this information while it was still held at the Shin-Ra laboratories, they began to slowly feed mako to the site, the glowing substance flowing through the long pipe that ran all the way back to Midgar City. Once the pipe was filled, an extra button, previously tucked within a compartment of the control panel, was illuminated and extended outward, so as to be more easily pressed. This was the final step before their immense curiosity took over and caused them to unleash God-knows-what. After all, for all they knew, it could be just a comet of some sort, or, worse yet, a form of materia that obliterates an entire planet. Either way, they had reasoned, it would have to be something they could possibly make a profit from in one way or another.

A cloaked figure stood, barely visible, watching as the scientists prepared. It was a darkness spirit, sent out to scout for important news. It, unlike the scientists, had taken notice of Nature's ominous reaction to the 'materia.'

Akia had awoken slowly...she looked around, it was early morning and she slowly remembered where she was and then looked to Kioni to give him a morning greeting...but something was wrong...Kioni didn't even seem to notice she had awoken and was paying no attention to her...his focus was outside the window of her room, a serious glare in his eyes...as if something terribly wrong was about to happen...Akia slowly got up...walking cautiously up to the window...she had a erie feeling and the hairs on her back stood up...everything...was silent...no birds, no wind, no noise of stray creatures...nothing...she looked out the window...seeing no one in site...but as she looked closer...in the far distance...something large...like a big sphere...rested in the distance..."What is that..." she said to herself in fear and alarm...it was huge...and beginning to glow...she couldn't make out much more...some type of machinery...pipes...but everything else was too far away...she couldn't tell if there was people out there near that....thing....she stood there for a few moments...then turned to Kioni..."We have to let the others know about this...."

"The silience... it reminds me of my cell back when I had no freedom..." I suddenly looked outside to see if anything was happening but there was nothing but a large sphere that I saw which I haven't noticed before and wondered what it was there for.

Akia quickly left her room and returned to the center of the rooms, the entrance of all the rooms...and looked to see if the misstress of the palace was nearby...she needed to let her know about the sphere...she wondered which room Azurite was in...but didn't dare enter the other rooms...remembering the misstress's warnings...

A man in a black suit stepped up to the control panel at the experiment site. His suit bore no markings of Shin-Ra, nor was his attire that actually used by the Turks as a uniform, but no one bothered him. It seemed, however, that it was not because they allowed him there but rather that they simply did not take notice of his presence. Black veins lined his face, wreathing beneath his skin as he turned his gaze upward toward the sphere. Pausing for just a moment, he turned and fixed his gaze on the shadow spirit that was watching. Giving it a smirk, he nodded in its direction before returning his gaze to the sphere. Lifting a gloved hand, he placed a finger on the switch, ready to complete Shin-Ra's experiment for them.

The spirit's head tilted to the side curiously, as it silently wondered what the man was doing.
----
The pool in the center chamber was completely empty, having been drained during the night. Suddenly the entire room was filled by a brilliant light, the Light Wing's output having been increased tenfold. The light faded as it was drawn to the dried out pool, filling the pool as if it were a liquid. Xetrina shot through the air, with her eyes closed, leaving shimmering prismatic trail as she crossed the room from the Light Wing, heading down into the now quaking Darkness Wing. Shortly after, the Darkness Wing dimmed, blotting out all light within it, as a surge of darkness poured out into the central chamber, mixing with the light in the pool, to create a large sphere of darkness, enveloped in a white corona. Xetrina floated out from the darkness wing, a shimmering prismatic trail fading out behind her. Landing, she opened her eyes, and the shimmering prismatic light around her faded.
((That was longer than I planned... but I had to do both wings, or the imbalance would create quite a problem))

Suddenly Azurite sensed that something was odd. He knew that it was suddenly darker now that his eyes are now able to see the difference in the shading around him which means his nightsight was triggered. He also felt his power strengthen as it got darker. He wondered if this might be pure darkness that he's shrouded in as he heads for the central chamber to see what's going on. "Maybe both the light and dark rooms are unstable at the moment" Azurite said to himself as he walked closer and closer.

Akia had already made it out to the central chamber and the flash of light blinded her...Kioni snapped out of his gaze when he heard Akia cry in pain...Kioni flew off his resting post and entered the central chamber, erupting into a giagantic flaming phoenix, surronding Akia in a flaming embrace to protect her from whatever was happening...sensing something was wrong...suddenly everything was dark...Kioni's flames only keeping the light around them...the dark was so cold...it made Akia shiver...her eyes tightly closed...she was afraid...then suddenly a flashing of light and darkness...Akia could feel the light and darkness combine...the light penetrating through her closed eyelids...the darkness making her shiver even more..."What's going on?!" she cried to herself...Kioni screeched from the extreme coldness of the dark light...it was trying to put out Kioni's flame...but he did not move...he stood his ground around Akia...protecting her...if it was the last thing he would do...his fiery embrace...keeping her from freezing from the darkness and from the fierce bright light...as if it was coming from the sun itself...

As soon as Azurite saw Akia and Kioni getting stuck in between the two elements he knew it wouldn't be safe for the two to be out in the chamber so he quickly saved the two by pushing them back into the Fire Wing but as he did he himself went in there too. As a result of this he was in great pain caused by his presents that disrupted the balance in the wing and he quickly fell onto his knees feeling burns within him and all over his body.

Akia tumbled over into the Fire Wing and before she realized what had happen...she heard cries of pain and saw Kioni trying to drag Azurite out of the Fire Wing...but he was in his regular form...too exhausted...and knew he would only hurt Azurite in his true form..."Azurite!" Akia called out to him in shock...she had to get him out of the room...she didn't understand why...but she sensed it...and could see his pain..burns forming all over his body...Akia rushed over to him, her eyes still slightly blurry from the blinding light...grabbed his right arm and tried to pull him up under her support...but she wasn't very strong and was having difficulty carrying him out the room...she was more like dragging him and the whole while Azurite was crying in pain...Akia began to cry..."Somebody...please help...," as she pulled him out of the Fire Wing at last...Kioni was in distress the whole time and was trying to help drag Azurite out by tugging on his left arm's sleeve...but to no evail...Akia had gotten him out at last and was crying on her knees...she didn't know what to do...Azurite laid on the Central Chamber's ground and was burned all over...she didn't know any kind of healing spells and any attempt to them would only hurt him if she made a mistake...she was useless...she cried to herself in thought...useless...Kioni had perched up on Akia's shoulder, trying to comfort her...but to no avail...and descended to the ground...walking up to Azurite...he turned his head to him...eyeing his condition...and then...suddenly...tears were rolling from the phoenix's eyes...landing ontop of Azurite...they gave off a hot steam...but they were healing the burns on Azurite's body...Akia lifted up her head...wiping the tears from her eyes and then a look of shock came upon her..as she saw Kioni crying upon Azurite...and the wounds...were healing...Akia crawled up closer to Azurite...watching the wounds disappear and Kioni cry...she had never seen Kioni...or any phoenix cry...ever...she had no idea that they could...or that...their tears...could heal....she looked to Azurite's face..."Please be alright..." she whispered...as she watched the burns on the motionless and unconscious body heal...

Suddenly Azurite felt like he was being pulled but he didn't care since the burns were still overwhelming. He didn't feel anymore burns once he was dragged out of the room with first to second degree burns on his body. He felt too much pain which almost put him into shock until he felt drops of liquid fall onto him which made the burning go away and healed his burns. He suddenly gasped for air as his upper body jumped up and as he was fully awake he still felt the ache of the pains being healed but heard cries near him. He looked sitting up then saw Akia crying and put his hand on her shoulder as he weakly said "It's alright... I'm fine now..."
