Bah, I don't believe in the avi arena. xp Aside seeing it as a popularity contest, I think the things that get the most attention are cosplays, wordplay avis, and novelty avis (the back-facing avatars that go "LOOK AT ME! I'm an aquarium/a basketball-playing MoMo/the Big Bang Theory/!").

If it was about looks, I would have gone to finals on some of my designs. One problem with that ambition:
I don't have the money to buy those items! crying
Edit: Lookie! My avi looks freaking awesome! If any of you know watched DBZ and actually LIKED it, then you may notice the hair? This pose works perfectly for a lone-wolf Sayian.

I saw the hair and fell in love with it. I bought it at 7.7k. I think that's very reasonable! 3nodding It will be over 20k in another... I am going to say 3 months. 3nodding
