Yaoi is originally a Japanese term for hardcore sexual activity between two males. It's a combined word from three sentences/statements that I can't remember at the moment, but it had something to do with not requiring a plot/being pointless. I can look it up if you're curious.
BUT, and this is important, the term yaoi is commonly misused and misunderstood as anything concerning homosexual male activity, including hugs and light kissing. That's wrong, the right term for any such activity, up to heavy kissing and touching(some clothes may be taken off but not all of them), is shonen-ai or Boy Love/BL. Shonen-ai does not contain any actual sexual activity, maybe such is implied but never more than that. It's more of the fluffy and sweet kind of love, rather than the sweaty and lustfilled kind that yaoi stands for. However, most people use yaoi to describe anything homosexual, and it generally causes great irritation among us that knows what it actually stands for.
Meh *streches creaky back* It was so bloody long ago since I've had to explain this kind of stuff to someone that I feel rather rusty talk2hand I've probably forgotten some points but I'm sure someone else can fill in whatever I managed to miss rolleyes

neutral I just don't get shounen-ai and/or yaoi. I never understood what is so appealing about it.

Doesn't matter!
I met an Ivan cosplayer and hung out with her for various times! I even played with her staff and "summoned Catastrophe", but then she smacked me with it.

...XD Oh that's great, a girl played Ivan. But besides that, mind keepin' the yaoiness on the DL DK? Not all love it. I don't care personally, but from experience... people really just don't wanna hear.
