((Sorry that took so long, I'm back though.)) Tanner thought for a moment. Turning with his back to the group, he nodded. "Request granted." Tanner, Lucas, and Kai were all not sure what Pix was intending, joining a group he held much hate for. Tanner spoke again after a short, awkward silence. "Pix, I give you the rank of sergeant, and any men and women not currently in service hereby have a temporary Infantry rank." He said temporarily mostly because he didn't want to force Ryken or Gregor to be bound to service for any longer amount of time then they needed.

He'd been on any number of battlefields, he'd fought along soldiers through half his career. They had never shown him anything but contempt 'He wasn't one of us, why should we care?'
But he had observed, and learned from them, and had more than once used the techniques he had gleamed from them. He put them to affect now, going into a parade stance and scanning across the crowd, "Corporals," He said nodding at the two experienced men, letting them know that way of their promotion, "You two had better listen up, this is a lesson for you as well." At that he shifted his attention to Kai pointing at him, "Recruit, who are you?"

Gregor watched as Pix nodded at him and nearly laughed. He had done a lot of things since he had left home, but one thing he thought he would never do was join the military and yet somehow he was already a Corporal. He watched as Pix asked a person for his name. He wasn't sure of the man's name himself, but he believed it to be Kai. Then again he had always had problems with names. He remembered faces, but names always took him a while to get. He glanced over at the other person assigned the rank of corporal to see who he would probably be working along side with. They looked like they had enough experience to fill the position, but he couldn't be sure until he saw the man's skill. He then wondered how baldy Pix would abuse his new power.

"I'm Kai, sir," he answered in mock confidence, trying not to let his sudden pain in his stomach show. He was nervous now that the seemingly authoritative figure loomed over him with such a plain question. Kai glanced to Tanner uneasily. No help there, Tanner still had his back turned to everyone, looking off into the distance. Kai managed to look Pix in the eyes, still feigning confidence. Lucas sympathized with Kai for a moment, knowing how everything Kai and the others did was a new experience. He folded his arms and closed his eyes, trying to not let the tension get to him.

"No you are not, a true soldier does not know himself by his name ," He said, disdain apparent in his voice, "Try again, who are you."

Kai took a deep breath and said slowly, "I am a soldier," unsure of whether he got the question wrong again. What was he supposed to say?

Ryken nodded at Pix; he never saw himself ever becoming a member of the military. Hell, he didn't even know why he was even standing there at that moment, suddenly putting himself at risk for a job that probably could have gotten done without him. The word 'temporary,' spoken by Tanner, relaxed him a little. It reminded him that he was here of his own will. He could have walked away at any moment he wanted. But he didn't want to.
Ryken watched the exchange between Pix and Kai attentively, although he had a feeling he already knew this lesson.

"Can anyone here tell me how a true soldier knows who they are?" He casted his gaze around as he spoke, "At least one of you flea-ridden mongrels has to know the answer, it's not very hard!"

Gregor watched as Pix vocally interogated the new recruits. He thought about the question himself and couldn't really think of anything. He wondered if anyone here might be able to guess the answer that Pix wanted. He looked around at some of the people and most of them seemed as if they were just as confused as he was. It bugged him that he himself probably one of the closest things to a veteran mercenary didn't know the answer.

Andrea stood there quietly, her eyes fixed on Pix: she was actually rather calm. She didn't think she knew the true answer, so she remained where she was, unmoving and keeping silent as she watched him. Slowly her gaze drifted to Gregor, studying him for several moments as she wondered if such a man knew the answer or if he was like her, simply watching. Her bright green eyes flicked back to Pix as she remained where she was, her green eyes standing out against her black hair.

There are no such things as coincidence.Evacy shrugged. "They don't." She murmured, not intending Pix, or anyone, to hear. Turning to Andrea, Evacy asked, "Doesn't the weight bother you?" she shifted the pack on her shoulders, already feeling slightly sore. She quickly checked to make sure her vials and flasks were properly stored, along with her darts. Eye Andrea's sword, she silently wished she had a better weapon. There is only hitsuzen

Andrea turned her head slightly to look at Evacy, giving her a crooked half-smile before she lightly rocked back onto her heels for a moment. "Not so much, I'm used to carrying things much, much heavier than this.." she said as she shrugged with the back still on. Andrea already had what she needed and she noticed Evacy looking at her sword. Her smile widened a bit more at that and she lightly rested her hand on the end of the hilt. "Hmm? You like..?" she asked, looking curious as she watched her.

He watched as everyone refused to answer Pix's question. He didn't really blame them. It was a question with a single answer and a million possibilities. He watched as Andrea and Evacy talked and he noticed that Andrea touched the hilt of her sword. He didn't know what they were talking about, but seeing this put him on edge. He was almost positive that they were friendly towards one another, but to him someone touching their weapon meant that it was time to either fight or die. Out of habit his hand was already resting on his crossbow ready to use it if he had to. It took a lot of concentration, but he relaxed himself and watched the group again as they waited probably expecting Pix to answer his own question.

Andrea had a strange feeling, which she soon recognized: some sort of tension? Her eyes quickly flicked around, landing on Gregor. He was touching a crossbow, and that made her automatically stiffen and her fingers curl around the hilt tightly. But soon he calmed himself, and eventually Andrea did too. Her hand loosened, but she didn't take it off her sword: she didn't know Gregor, but her touch to her sword set him off pretty easily. Very similar to her. She shook her head slightly to clear her mind then focused on Evacy once more.

Ryken watched Andrea touch her weapon, and caught Gregor's movement out of the corner of his eye. When Andrea grabbed her sword's hilt, he moved his hand to rest on the sheath of one of his own swords. The others relaxed and released their weapons; Ryken simply slid his hand farther down the sheath so it was less noticeable.
