It took Lin's mind a while to click, she had sadly nearly forgotten about the Rover. Though maybe she purposely didn't think too much on the boy since really they would always be on different paths. While she had no issues of a mortal and immortal marrying, that Rover was well.... she was sure he wouldn't be able to take what she called her homelife.

She smiled at that a bit, "Well... seeing as I didn't even know at the time what he wanted, as for the fledgling I can't blame you. I've read about it even if I wasn't awake for it. It's quite... bloody so knowing Kaito took it all in stride sort of makes me roll my eyes, but I think Kaito look a lot of things in stride."

In fact she had a funny feeling he knew even then.

"To be fair, I think Kaito just expects everything," Earendil chuckled. "I don't recall as I've ever seen him surprised about anything. Or Shiro for that matter."

He paused, then amended, "Other than when Leyenda came back to us and it turned out she had gotten married. I think everyone was surprised then."

Even Kelirahc had been surprised: he had thought she had known was was going on.

Lin laughed at that, "That doesn't count I think, because no amount of planning or logic could have ever predicted anything like that."

Marriage by miscommuitcation was a new one to her at the time. Honestly who would have thought at all?

"Their marriage would have surprised anyone but a seer," Lin admitted.

"You're forgetting," Earendil chuckled, "that Rhea was there, and she is a seer. Possibly the most powerful seer I have ever met."

But she had been just as flabbergasted as any of the others, even just to know that there were other people on the island. Just like Aragost.

"You know...." Lin finally spoke up realizing something when Earendil said that, "I wonder, is there something about that island that suppresses the Sight? I mean, even Aragost didn't know about the Night Elves and he had given off the impression he had seen lands we have yet to see. Not to mention Aragost is like Rhea... in fact I think Rhea kind of got it from Aragost, that strong Sight I mean."

"Anything is possible, I suppose," Earendil murmured, "but ... why that place? Why that people? And there are other people that Seers didn't know about, Amon Darthir for example. And that's where Rhea ended up staying. And she hasn't said whether or not she knows of other places or people out there. Maybe it's a gift that's just limited to their location or something. Or maybe they're like phoenixes, and they don't know until you ask them specifically about something."

"Maybe... I mean... why know about a place you aren't looking for?" Lin murmured, "Sight I find tends to be more important to the here and now, even if it's about events to come, it's more related to the Seer. At least I think so... granted the only person I know of who has Sight close enough to any Seer here would be grandfather Daemon, and well I think even he proves sometimes it can be misleading."

After all he ended up in a sword, and since he had carefully written and crafted his will, it was obvious he thought he was going to die.

"Well, even Rhea and Nadya are always talking about how you have to be careful in interpreting what you See," Earendil replied. "I mean ... both of them say that what they see might not even happen. Nothing is set in stone. Not until it happens."

He shrugged. "Maybe we can ask Rhea when we see her again."

Lin nodded, "Yes, it would be an interesting question to have. Mom use to tell stories of Grandfather's sight, though mainly his most reliable times was a few seconds before it happened, apparently it managed to keep him out of too much trouble. His aura sensing was better, which is interesting since one of Lothiriel's children developed that ability."

She had been surprised the first time she ever met Pengoladh to know he could do that. She was very familiar with the theory and ability, but it had always struck her as odd maybe because of the close relation between Gion and her grandfather.
PostPosted: Mon May 31, 2010 6:56 pm

"Keep in mind, though," Earendil pointed out, "Gion gained the ability from spending so much time connected to your grandfather - and sometimes gifts can skip a generation. It's possible that Pengolodh inherited the ability from Gion somehow, even if it wasn't a true Elven ability in the first place."

After all, there was no telling how magic worked. Anything was possible.

"Of course the type of abilities are endless," Lin murmured in turn, "I mean... Adanedhel's son Ecthelion can talk to plants, Leyenda can breath under water.... there are gifts in shielding, gifts in self healing and all manner of other abilities."

And that didn't even include the really passive abilities like wisdom or language or the like.

"Sometimes I can't help but wonder if magic is alive somehow," Earendil murmured thoughtfully. "I mean ... it is born, it grows, it thrives, it requires something to feed off of ... and if it's not properly taken care of, it either dies or gets out of control. It changes according to conditions, and is never the same twice."

But how could something ... innate ... be alive? It was like saying blood or bones were alive. It just didn't make sense.

"Well... magic is a part of us... well for those of us who use magic it is," Lin replied, "It's part of our being, part of who we are. It is alive in a way..."

Then again she was technically a magical being, she was born from a vase. One couldn't get more magical than that, but then again so were elves. Even if they weren't born from vases.

"That's true," Earendil murmured, "but if you ask some people, they'll say that the magic is stronger than them, that it has a life of its own inside them. That it's more alive than they are. Yes, it courses through our veins, but sometimes I wonder: is it a part of us, or are we a part of it?"

Lin thought back to when she first met Rhea. While she hadn't spent a lot of time with Rhea at first she still remembered a few things. Like how hard it had been to first mediate and blue roses.

"That is a good point, I think Rhea felt like that at one point..."
