The pounce caught Isto completely off guard, knocking him roughly to the ground beneath the shadow wolf. He ducked sideways to avoid the creature's jaws, then snatched upwards, metal hand grabbing the wolf around the neck, holding back its head. He kicked up towards the shadow's stomach, but instead of flinging it off, they overbalance and...roll over. And again. And again. Scowling, Isto glanced around, searching for some means of getting the shadow off, the metal hand clenched around its throat hardly seeming to effect it. His gaze fell on...a tree. Good enough. He judged the distance, then angled the rolls towards it, intent on ramming the wolf against the tree. Sadly, he misjudged. His back hit, head snapping back against the trunk.. He blacked out.

((*Grins* Isto's problem was that he had a visual difference...and he always had it. It set him apart from everyone 'cause it as just...strange, you know? Arm made o'metal. Banda wasn't born without his hearing, and, even if he had been, I doubt he would have thought differently. He doesn't really consider himself different from anyone else... He can still talk almost normal, he just has a bit more trouble 'cause he can't hear. So his thoughts are, "why should anyone treat me differently? I'm just like them."))

"ISTO!!" Mauli's eyes went wide, and she darted over towards Isto, but never got there.

The wolf snarled, slamming Isto into the tree once more, then dragged him off behind the tree. Too bad the shadow being didn't know the forest as well as some, like Mauli... He dragged both himself and Isto off the side of the world, it seemed, and both of them tumbled down a few hundred yards into... what else... a lake. A giant, murky, green-slime-covered lake.

((Moo gave me permission to powerplay just by not getting into the dumb lake herself on her last post. xD))

((XD, It's your wolf!))

A shock ran through Isto as his body hit the lake, effectively waking him. Though, for a moment, he wasn't sure if he was awake. All sound was muffled by the water, and it was nearly pitch black thanks to the slime, bringing a feel of continued unconciousness... It took Isto a while to realize he was awake. And by that time, his arm had dragged him nearly to the bottom. His eyes went wide, and he struck out for the surface, but... his arm wouldn't move. It remained still at his side, continuously pulling him towards the bottom despite his efforts to reach fresh air.

((Yes, I know, but it's your metal-handed SM. xD))

The wolf abandoned all attempts to get to Isto, instead surfacing and swimming hastily to the nearest lakeside. That's one shadow thing that wouldn't be attacking anything near water again!

Mauli had to lean backwards to avoid falling over the cliff, and instead stared down at the water, her mind whirling. Isto... Water... Fall... Isto! He couldn't swim! She quickly grabbed the nearest branch, then used it to scale halfway down the rockside, then jumped in after him.

From the depths of the lake, something ancient stirred.

((XDDDDDDDDDDD, You're really gonna have the squid attack him?))

Roughly ten feet to his side, Isto heard a splash brake the water, head spinning towards the mass of bubbles just barely seen through the gloom. The light wasn't good enough to tell what it was, however, so he set it aside as another of the wolves and continued towards the surface, finally able to see the layer of sludge that marked the end of the water.

Mauli, once wiping a bit of slime from her face, ducked underwater and immediatly began swimming in the general direction of... wherever forward was. What the heck had she been thinking when she jumped in? Oh, wait. She hadn't.

A thin rope, slimy and covered in ink, snapped forward and wrapped around Isto's metal arm. It tugged him downwards, down towards snapping poisonous jaws.

((HECK yes. No traumitizing near-death experience is complete without an ancient killer squid. n_n))

((n_n Whatever works))

A shout of surprise, all but muffled by the water, left a trail of bubbles streaming from his mouth as the limb dragged him downward. His metal arm still useless, his normal hand immediately began clawing at the tentacle, legs striving to kick him back towards the surface. A slight burning sensation began in his chest... He was running out of air. Instantly he redoubled his efforts, eyes fixed on the ink-coated limb wrapped around his arm.

The squid was reluctant to give up its newly-gained prey, and it spared a moment to squirt a bit of ink towards Isto, tugging him down further. If the behemoth had lips, it would have licked them.

Mauli finally spotted Isto, or... what she thought was Isto. The figure was blurred in the murky water, but who else would leave behind a glint and a trail of bubbles? She groggily reached for her sword, slowed by the water that was... watery. o_o Okay, so sue me, i'm running out of fancy word... things.

Isto closed his eyes against the ink cloud, opening them once more only when he could no longer feel the thick slippery feel of ink mixed with water. The squid pulled him further down... and, for the time being, Isto gave up trying to free his arm, concentrating on getting back to the surface. The burning was growing more painful by the second, and finally it grew to be too much to bear. His mouth opened and he took a deep breath...of water, actions ceasings as he choked open the liquid filling his lungs.

At that moment, Mauli struck.

The squid wretched, the pain flooding its mind. It swam backwards, thrashing in the water, its own blood mixing with the water and ink.

Mauli looped one arm around Isto's stomach, hauling him to the surface as fast as her legs and his dead weight would allow her. Finally, breaking into the air, she gasped and shoved him upwards. Now, to shore... The fifth-stage female took a long breath, then began kicking towards shore, her movements halted and stumbling because of the extra weight.
-Goddangit, Isto, you'd better be alive so I can kick you for not keeping your end of the deal! 'I'll take two', he says... Bah!-
PostPosted: Sat Aug 21, 2004 5:54 pm

((Grargfoogle, how'm I supposed to get 'em back to the shore if Isto's half drowned...?))

Isto was dimly aware of the squid releasing him... Why, he was not sure. But then something wrapped around his waist and began pulling him once more... so he figured it must have just been getting a better grip. Breathing water was now no different than air... It tasted a bit differently...but he was breathing normally now, and that's what mattered... A few final bubbles escaped him mouth before he fell unconcious, lack of air taking its toll. And just before Mauli broke surface, too... How ironic.

Finally, Mauli's feet brushed sand, and she gasped a sigh of relief as she hauled Isto onto shore. That's funny... He wasn't moving. Hahaha. Hah. "Isto... Isto, c'mon, we're back on shore. Isto!" She grabbed his shoulders, shaking him roughly. After a few shakings, she bit her bottom lip, dropping him onto the sand and pressing a finger to his neck. No pulse... Oh, god. She pressed her hands together, one on top of another, then shoved it down onto his stomach. After a few seconds of waiting, she snarled, pressing his nostrils down flat and opening his mouth. Good lord, he was gonna hafta pay her back BIG TIME for this. She pressed her lips to his, ignoring the wave of heat that rushed over her face, then blew hard into his mouth. Then, she blew again, using her free hand to press down on his stomach. A few seconds of waiting, then she pulled away, gasping and squinting. DAMN, she was NEVER going to be a lifeguard. She bent over and smacked Isto's cheek lightly, her eyes narrowing. "ISTO, YOU LITTLE DROWNED MONKEY, WAKE UP!"
