Grey Moonfang IV Oh god...just....oh god. You know how we were all speculating on what type of Pokemon Sylveon was? Turns out it's none of the above. It has been confirmed that Sylveon belongs to an entirely NEW Pokemon Type. Fairy. That's right. Fairy-Type Pokemon. Oh god. What have they done!? xp fairy!? *stare* WHAT!!? we already have fairy... Celebi, jirachi, uxie, mesprit, manaphy Fairy= Psychic + Grass

Oh dear. Yes really. Word has it they'll be weak to poison and steel, and be super-effective against Dragon, Dark, and Fighting. Only some of that making any actual sense. Now as for the existing "fairies" that's just their appearance, not they're type. they're all part psychic mixed with something else. Apparently they plan to go a bit more fairytale with all this.

Kind of weird with the dragon part poison and steel is type I almost never use...

I shall pay homage to the past...with something of a fun twist on an old favourite! Well a friend came up with a reason for the dragon bit which made sense. Fairies and Dragons are both mythical creatures, and more often then not, doesn't the hero slay the dragon with a weapon or method provided by a fairy or some other type of fairytale being? I mean despite the fact that most people thinf of the butterfly winged little people when you say "Fairy" it's actually a highly general term like Mammal or Reptile, used to describe all sorts of mythical creatures which were often vaguely human shaped, mischievous, and often as much of a nuisance as they were helpful. Poison and Steel weakness can be explained quite easily. First look at it from the fairy point. Steel and Poison (Pollution) represent modern society where fairies become less and less real to the common man/woman, where as in olden days fairies were believed to be quite real by damn near everyone. Now if you look at it from a mechanics standpoint, for a long time Poison hasn't been a very useful Pokemon Type. They're only strong against Grass-Types, and no less then four different types of Pokemon are resistant to them. Their only real redeeming quality is the ability to cause Poison-Status and their immunity to said status. Making Fairy Types weak to poison would make them more useful. Now Steel Types are only strong against Ice and Rock, two types which make up one of the lower populations of the Pokemon World, though it's true their impressive defence and immunity to poison make them quite useful when trained properly, the lack of any real offensive for their own type of attacks is pretty dismal, thus making them strong against one more type makes them slightly more appealing. At least that's how I see it.

At least that's how I see it. for steel, myth mentioned fae/sidhe/ fairy is weak against iron. True, that adding poison and steel's offensive use makes them more useful If it's only those 2 weakness...fairy will be quite good to use,not many people use those two types but still...fairy, hope not all of them is our stereotype cutesy fairy! I am hoping for the creepy-cool one
fae is a better term for me, whenever i hear fairy,it's that butterfly winged tiny people the meaning of fairy has been rather corrupted

Ah this is true, I'd completely forgotten about the pure iron thing. Shame on me. Still given that a number of japanese 'fae' fell in the less then pretty category, or at least only disguised themselves as beautiful before revealing themself as something horrible, odds are there won't be only the cutesy kind. I'd sadly place bets on a "pure" fairy type always being cute, but I'm sure if it was part Rock or Dark it'd be more...trollish (for lack of a better term leaping to mind.). Only time will tell though. The official type for Sylveon will be released later today. It could very well be the whole fairy thing really is bullshit and there's nothing to debate about.

I happen to like manga with those,so I sort of know some those are more like demon/ghost thing though

I just realized something which adds credence to the whole Fairy-Type theory. If Fairy-Type is indeed going to happen it's been reported that Sylveon will be one. Sylveon's japanese name is Nymphia. Nymph. Key word there. The Eeveelutions name always has something directly to do with it's Type.

Well Yokai is a general term used for Monsters, Spirits, and the like. While some are Beasts/Monsters in the same realm as Werewolves or Ogres, and some were closer to Ghosts, some were also very much closer to different types of fairies like Brownies and Changlings. My point was that no matter the culture not all fairies are cute. Some are expressly described as being quite ugly.

Well part of the designs we have to realize aren't targeted at us. Though Pokemon has made an effort to get a little 'older' in many cases, depending on how long you've been playing the games, they're now directed at a younger audience. The other thing is the simple "you can't please everyone". Take Stunfisk for an example. I for one can't stand it. Another of our resident mods however, Red, is a bloody Stunfisk FANATIC. I also never liked Oshawott; but I know a large number of people who like it the best. Just as the style of the new Pokemon changes from Gen to Gen, so do opinions. I for one still hate Gen IV most of all. As for the Kung-Fu Panda....I'll admit I was also highly disappointed with that one; BUT, and I do say BUT! Pancham isn't necessarily a Kung-Fu Panda. Take a look at other fighting types. Hitmonchan is a Boxer. Hitmonlee is a Kickboxer. Machoke and Machamp are Pro-Wrestlers. Hariyama is a Sumo Wrestler. The Musketeer Trio are technically Swordsmen. Just because he's a Fighting-Type doesn't guarntee he's going to be yet another "Kung Fu" Panda. Given that his title is the "Naughty Pokemon" his evolutions could look more like Thugs/Delinquents/Japanese Street Gang type of a thing. There is still hope! Ah and for the record it is entirely within the realm of the possible, as Fairy-Type is the Japanese term they could end up calling them something like Fae-Type, which in English is a bit catchier (in my opinion).

I don't like stunfisk either, the pokemon has mocking face not fond of the pure fighting type, exception is mienfoo.
There is hope still I suppose, it is for younger children, but I am talking about the design's originality the panda still looks so much like panda.
Edit: Gogoat.... Go Go Goat, an android game app XDD
