Masamune picked up a red poker from the fire and pointed it at her. "Girl...I don't like strangers unless Sakura tells me they are alright. I knew father, and I hate him still. I met him once, and no more. If I was related to that man I would have killed myself, godsmith or not. Now listen. You leave my shop now. Or else I'll show you a smith who can still defeat the best of samurai."
His eyes weren't happy in the least. He stood there, the poker in the air pointed in her direction. "I suggest you go back to town, and leave me alone. You have no business here, and I will kill you. My entire family was killed in a war that the Shinsengumi decided to bring to us. Many other villagers died. That is why we hate strangers Lotus. Now leave, go rest, and be ready to leave us tommorow. Sakura never invited you here, and no one else on this island did." He watched her, his eyes seeming to glow as he stood. His stance solid, and power obvious.
Kashi smiles and leans forward gently stroking her cheek with the back of his hand. "So I see...well...we'll see what Akira things of you. I like you personally, but if she doesn't like you you'll be stuck here serving those men for the rest of your life." He smiles and then leans back to Akira. He gently touches her, no shaking, just a touch and a voice. "Akira...come meet Jade. She might be our new friend." He then leaned back up slowly, placing his hands lazily on his body. "Try to look confident Jade...or else men will always treat you horribly."

She nodded and looked up at the girl who was yawning into wakefullness. She rubbed her eyes adn looked around. She blinked a few times when sharp young eyes riveted on her suddenly. Akira frowned at her and Jade feared that she would not like her just by looking. She wondered why this man kept a little girl around, Maybe she is skilled as well?
Akira stood, looking at the strange girl. It took her a minute to recognize the waitress, she had brought good food! She was also the one who kicked that man! Akira broke out inot laughter so hard she rolled around. She stood up and sat next to the girl and looked at her carefully, critically. She suddenly slashed out at the girl, her little knife in hand. she was delighted when Jade grabbed her little wrist and disarmed her quite easily. Akira grinned at Kashi.
Lotus stared at him, "I lost everyone too, I'm all alone and can't stand it. Chaos wrote me this message in sand," her words choked on the lump in her throat, "It was about hope, how it can only be attained if I'm alive. But with all the admonishions, I still can't see why life is worth living if there is no one. You have your apprentice, you have a town that works with you. I have nothing--no one. I'm tired of despairing, you've flet it, havn't you, absolute despair...total loss. Maybe its time I finally went to sleep."

Masamune frowned deeply at her. "My last apprentice killed himself. I have no succesor, and no heir. You shouldn't speak before you konw what you're saying. Chaos and Sakura both only learned their own way to make swords. from me. The same with Yumi-dono. She will simply learn how to make swords and then put her own flare to it. I don't teach my sword making any longer. And what Sakura said was true...hope should remain in everyone. You don't understand him very well do you?
"You followed Chaos because you thought he was some great and wonderful man didn't you? He's not...Chaos is horrendous and a terrible man. You know nothing of Sakura, and nothing of this town...Lotus, I've lived for well over a century by now...I've seen kingdoms rise and fall...I've seen empires destroyed. I'm still living though, because live is something I enjoy. Maybe you can't understand it because your life is 'hard' and no one can understand...you're not worth my time talking to you..." At this he turned around and looked at the steel again, before beginning his work upon it again.
Kashi smiles softly and nods to Akira. He then looks back to Jade, his eyes traversing her and then returning to her eyes. "She likes you Jade...welcome into our small family. You'll enjoy yourself here, and my only rules are, if you're not with me, or another of the family, then you are on your own till you join back up with us...easy enough yes?" He chuckles and waves his hand to the floor mats. "Sleep Jade...we will be traveling tommorow."

Perhaps because she was still very young she was still very sad and a bit angry. She left the shop but not before digging in her pocket and placing a closed lotus blossom on the table near her. She gathered her things and left that day.
Akira tugged at Jade until she lay down next to her. Akira was asleep in no time but Jade was awake wondering what Kashi was looking for. She decided not to ask and finally drifted to sleep.

Masamune looked at the flower and then back to his work.
Kashi smiled and watched them both. He could go entertain himself that night, but he decided to be their guard...for now at least. He leaned his head back waiting for the new day.

Lotus left with nothing but what she came with. She asked nothing, said nothing, only watched the road ehr feet were treading on. She was soon in the forest, heading for the sea. She was trying to figure out what to do. She was tempted to go into carpentry...or cutlery... She wanted to look back but told smothered the temptation and kept walking. She walked all night.
*NEXT DAY?*
((wow, that was kinda sad...))

((You would have to tie it to the metal, it's not a stone XD And it could work...except it would more likely than not break the tree branch if it wasn't strong enough, or the rope may break from friction.))
Masamune watched her and chuckled going back to pounding on the piece of metal. Smart, at least she had that, but maybe she didn't realize yet, that the piece of metal he wanted her to eventually lift, would become her eventual sword. So she would have to lift it to begin work on it. He wouldn't say anything yet though.

((Yes... but at the moment she's just trying to get it out from the house... then she'll tie the rope around the... stone xd And she's brough a LOT of ropes with her 3nodding surprised ))
Slowly but surely the peice of metal moved through the door and out from the house. Once in a while Yumi had to replace the ropes, but at least she knew she was progressing and that was enough. No matter how hard it was, Yumi didn't seem to notice how tired she was, she was that determined.
When she had finally dragged the metal all the way over to the tree she faced her second difficulty, how to get the rope around the peice. It took her a while, but after many many tries she had managed to put enough small stones underneath the big lump by lifting it just a little bit, so that she now could get the ropes beneath the stone too. Choosing the strongest branch on the tree Yumi put all her remaining willpower and strenght into inch by inch lifting the stone from the ground.
Now nearly fainting from exhaustion Yumi had managed to lift the peice of metal high enough in the air. The third difficulty was how she would be able to hold up the peice with her hands, but that she had already earlier figured out. Now she simply placed her feet on the ropes. The metal glided down a little while she was struggling to get her feet on the ropes, but not much and in the end she was ready. After placing her hands on the cold metal she shouted:
"I'm ready!!"

Masamune stopped his work and walked to the door looking out at her. He shook his head chuckling. "Alright then Yumi-dono. If that's how you wish to do it, then you can now bring it back in and begin work on it...that piece of metal in your hands will become your next dual katanas. I'll wait till you're back inside to elaborate." He walked back inside and began work again on the single blade he had.

At first Yumi just stood there, not being able to beleive what she had just heard. Then she finally realized how stupid she had been. Did I really think the only thing I had to do was lift this peice? Moaning slightly she started struggling with lifting up the metal. After a few minutes of struggling she managed to start rolling the metal back towards the house. But when she came as far as to the two steps leading into the house she stopped, let the peice of metal fall and sat down on the ground. With her hands crossed she sat there glaring. She looked somewhat like a small child when she sat there, giving the metal a few kicks once in a while out of irriation.
"It's impossible... there's no way I'll be able to lift that peice today with my bare hands! It takes a lot of training, I'm simply not strong enough. And however hard I train it will still take a while for my muscles to develope." After a moment of silence she looked up at Masamune.
"But... am I allowed to slice the peice into several parts?"

Masamune looked down at Yumi and chuckled. "Hai, just remember that piece of metal will become two to be your blades. Much of it will be lost in the smelting, then the process beyond normal smelting. You will have purity in it, but also lightness. Every swordsman must know weight. This is to train your patience, and your work. Not to give Sakura or Chaos too much credit, but both lifted a piece heavier than that the first day. Each time one of them came, they worked the whole day lifting and training themselves till they could begin work. You may not complete it today. You might not even start on it today...it all depends.
Sakura chuckled watching Yumi and shook his head a bit wondering what she would do now.

Yumi didn't say anything, she was too busy trying to controll herself. She was mad... both at herself for not being strong enough and at Masamune who gave her such an impossible task.
". . . At the moment it's impossible for me to lift that lump, so there's nothing I can do but slowly train. Sorry for not being as talented and strong as Sakura or Chaos. Could you now be as kind as to tell me how you slice a piece of steel? Just by using brute force?" Obviously holding herself back her tone and posture at once became much more formal.
