Only one other remained so he brought his blade up into the sky and around to the boar quaking in place. it was a mercy killing, really. before he would have sliced them to bits piece by piece, prolonging their suffering. "I see you've come a long way since we last fought together. Your blade seems sharper than ever." They continued walking when they spotted something shambling onto the path. It was a bear. Quest: That's not a knife
Cthaer looked around the Gloomwood encampment. They'd only just recently updated the game to support two characters, and it was a godsend. Being able to focus entirely on a particular playstyle instead of trying to spread your one character so thin as to inhibit their growth was an incredible gift. Cthaer was still and admin's character, though he did not share Alyx' admin privileges, so he would need to grow those things in his own time, gaining his permissions over again. That was fine. He'd already been given an incredible head start over a typical first-level character. He knew what his first course of action was, though: He needed to be able to harvest materials in order for this character to approach his maximum potential. Which meant that he needed another knife. He imagined that he might destroy a few components by trying to harvest them with Illfang. He proceeded to the weaponsmith and followed her directions to forge himself a skinning knife. The work of his own hands paled in the face of his legendary dagger, but it would certainly get the job done, he decided, as he examined his work closely and accepted the quest rewards.

((Roll+0)) Quest: Get Wood
Skinning knife acquired! Now it was time to run around and pick up a few quests. He started with Bob and Weave, the hunt quest for Gloomweave Spiders, and Get Wood, so he could start the questline to get the Hunt skill. He gripped the and moved a short way into the woods, to gather some supplies. He only needed five pieces of wood, and he'd be able to move on to more important things. He chopped at the harvesting node, and noticed that the woodcutters axe was still proportionate to his body, which was handy, since this character had turned out to be quite smaller than the Gloomking. All he had to do was chop a few pieces of wood, and he'd be ready to move on to what he expected would be infinitely more useful to this character.

((Roll+0)) Quest: Get Wood
Well, this was a somewhat inauspicious start. No matter. Harvesting was a simple task, and five pieces of wood could take no longer than five harvesting nodes, if past experience was anything to go by. He was anxious to get to the meat of his character, since he had apparently plateaued with Alyx. Until the second floor opened up, Alyx was not going to get very much more powerful. Cthaer, though... Cthaer had a world of unlimited potential before him. He was starting with a weapon that rivaled Alyx' legendary blade, and that Alyx had found no equal to at level thirteen. Cthaer was level one with a weapon that was arguably even more powerful than one of the strongest players in the game. All he had to do was establish a decent buffer zone between the monsters and himself, to assure his survival in this hellscape, and he would skyrocket through the ranks.

((Roll+0)) Quest: Get Wood
Another poor drop, but it wasn't going to dampen the young shade's spirits. He was almost there. Halfway, and that was if he didn't get lucky on a good node. He laid out his plans for the future of the character: dagger skills, probably the ranger quests, alchemy, tailoring, and gathering as a harvest skill, to feed his alchemy. He might venture into cooking, since he'd probably have all the supplies that he needed from hunting and gathering. Word was that there was a recipe that the cook gave out that required mushrooms, and nobody seems to have found another use for them aside from that, though Cthaer had his suspicions that he might find a use for them down the alchemy line.

((Roll+0)) Quest: Get Wood
What a haul! He'd hit the mother lode on this one. There were crafting supplies here that he hadn't even heard of. OH! That was right! They'd updated the harvesting systems with update 0.0.12! These must be the new items that they'd added into the game. He'd read the update notes and it seemed that all harvesting skills had been reworked, and a good deal of the crafting skills had been fleshed out. These items must play some sort of role in the new crafting systems. He could imagine uses for the sap and the grubs, but he wondered what possible use someone might have for acorns... Maybe they had something to do with the rumors of a housing update being on the horizon. Alyx was capable of making furniture; that furniture had to go somewhere eventually, right? He waited anxiously for that update to be released, so that he could take advantage of the massive benefits to having a safe place to rest in the middle of all this madness. He'd have to discover the full extent of those updates in forestry on Alyx, though, since he didn't need to collect wood if A.) he didn't need it, and B.) someone else was already doing that. However, this had given him just enough wood to finish this quest, and he ran back to the Cook.

Quest: Shrooms ((Roll: 1d100+5=gathering Novice Gatherer's Ring: +5 gathering))
Cthaer gave up the five pieces of wood that he had and delved back into the trees toward where he knew the boars spawned. He wasn't worried about getting too close to them: he was fairly familiar with their aggro ranges. He just looked around in the dirt for a good gathering node and, when he found one at the base of a tree, slid his hands into the soft earth to dig for the mushrooms that he needed to complete his quest. First step, gathering, then hunting, then alchemy. He was just going through the first few quests to unlock the skills that he'd need to get himself ready to start actually working, and if he picked up a level or two while he was at it, there was no harm in that. All he would do is have a better head start than he already had. Hell, with the poison damage that he could stack at this point, it might be just as easy for him to kill boars as spiders.

Quest: Shrooms ((Roll: 1d100+5=gathering Novice Gatherer's Ring: +5 gathering))
That had gone much better than expected. This ring that they'd pulled off of Achan must be pulling its own weight. And with the Red Harvest Ring, he'd be pulling enough Tokens in to cover the expenses for everything the Harvester had to offer. He'd probably end up picking up another Red Harvest Ring, so that he could wear two Red Harvest Rings and then two gathering rings, since he'd be able to buy another one from the Harvester. Put those two rings on top of the Harvester's gloves, and he'd be gathering at a rate much higher than his typical speed, and he'd be pulling in enough Red Harvest Tokens to fill a vault and dive into like Scrooge McDuck without sacrificing efficiency. Sure, he would earn possibly twice as many tokens if he were wearing four of the Red Harvest Rings, but he was more worried about getting usable materials than he was about maximizing gains for supplies that were arguably less useful than the other holiday event rewards. Of course, he might change his mind, depending on how well this ring increased his gains on its own.
