"that is... really revolting." He wasn't sure which was more unpleasant, the image of rainbow mucus or Ascreama currently absorbing cake.

Poor Meme though. "Do you believe she requires soup?" Wasn't that the traditional remedy for just about every illness? His mother certainly always seemed to think so.

He shook his head as if to try to shake the image of sneezing confetti from his mind.

"Thank you Ascreama. I know... nothing about fashion." What an understatement that was, but as far as he was concerned, all ghouls knew everything about clothes so he was pretty certain Ascreama could help.

He winced a little at Vanissha's cheering.

"You have your own cheerleader?" He glanced at Ascreama.

Perry just stared at the little alien guy in obvious bemusement, then raised both hands defensively.

"Woah dude... it's ok. Chill. Take a seat."

He glanced at Dashner as if to say "What the heck is your friend's problem?"

He extended a hand to the moody extraterrestrial. "I'm Perry. Dash and I are both on the football team." he offered by way of explanation.

He looked a little uncomfortable with everyone at the table staring at him.

Motthew blinked, then looked at Vanissha, pushing his sunglasses back over his eyes. He smiled "Nice to meet you, Vanissha." he glanced over at Ascreama "Scream Queen, huh? I'll remember that." he chuckled, taking another bit of his food.

Drakie, are you going to the Murk Trial practice after school? I am going to watch Chase at football practice and was hoping someone could record how Rory does for me.

Draconia checked her text from Glen, who she assumed was safely hidden in the boos bathroom, away from Hellene's gushings about his aunt. Hellene was rifiling through her bookbag now, looking for the latest Deadbook magazine, which had an article about the witch and her haunt couture scarestylings.

Draconia frowned, and texted back.

Quote:
So sorry, Glen, but I already promised Manny I'd watch the practice to fear him on! I'll see if someone else can.

"Oooh, record the first Murk Trial practice?" Draconia jumped at the sound of rattling chains behind her. It was Spectra, engaging in her (highly annoying) habit of reading creature's texts over their shoulders. "Do you think something juicy might happen?"

"Well...." Draconia replied. "Rory IS one of the Tombcoming King candidates...and look over there! He seems to be getting quite intimate with one of the Tombcoming Queen candidates... And I do believe I overheard her saying she was going to be at the Murk Trial rehearsal too."

Draconia pointed over at Marceline and Rory, which was like dangling a carrot on a stick in front of a weredonkey for Spectra.

"OooOOoo." She replied, tantalized by the prospects. Her transparent fingers twitched as she instinctively reached for her iCoffin. "I'll DEFinitely be attending Murk Trial, then. Hexcuse me!"

Spectra floated off, no doubt to lurk nearer the gossip potential. Draconia picked up her iCoffin.

No worries, got it taken care of!

"Did you just hear something?" Rory asked Marceline as he looked around. "I thought I heard something...clanking, or rattling."

Nothing seemed out of the ordinary (for monsters, at any rate), so Rory shrugged and turned back to his lunch.

"Huh."

Rory picked at his crunch cries, dipping them in liberal amounts of ketchup.

"So, mother told me she is actually looking forward to seeing how Tombcoming goes! Isn't that surprising? I thought she'd be all against it, but something this weekend changed her mind. In fact, she insists that we have dinner before the dance in Mirrorverse, and she'll prepare it. Isn't that great?"

She looked up at Roswell nervously to break some tension, "Roswell, please, take a seat."

Wait....he waited for her where?

Melody's eyes widened and she put her palm to her forehead, "The lab! Oh ghoul, I forgot! I'm sorry, Roswell!"

Maybe if he sent her a message or a reminder, she would have known to ask to see if he wanted to join them for lunch in the creepiteria.
Wait...did he say boo-friend? So they were official now?
And he brought up the kiss in front of Doriana and the boos.

She looked down and smiled from embarrassment, "Ahem, no. It is not from the kiss from earlier, I just thought I could use a change of pace. If that's fine,"she brushed her hair behind her ear.

"But, please, take a seat," she offered. He agreed and sat down. As he did, she gave an apologetic look to Perry, showing Roswell didn't mean offense.

Perry just grinned back at Melody and waved a hand dismissively. It wasn't his problem Ros was obviously in a mood. Though how awkward Melody seemed to suddenly become around Roswell was pretty clear to him, he shrugged it off and leaving the couple to work whatever it was out, he turned to the quiet Selkie ghoul.

"You don't talk much do you?"

Marceline squeaked in shock. Dinner with Rory's mom? That was certainly not something she would be looking forward to... Though it would go against her updigging to refuse a dinner invitation, even if it was from someone as intimidating as Mary Bludworth...

"Dinner? With your mother. I uh... well sure, that'd be... lovely. What time did she suggest? Clawdeen's takin' me to her stylist before the dance t'get a Skaratin treatment for my hair... That might take a while... But I could probably reschedule...!"

Bridget took out her Icoffin. "This requires backup. Hang in there my sparkly buddy, we'll get you back to your shiny happy self soon enough."

She quickly composed a message to her cousin, Tori Underbridge:

It was immediately after school, and members of the football team started to gather outside on the field for practice. Tombcoming was this freakend and NO school wanted to suffer a loss on their own Tombcoming game!

Manny Taur ... Dashner ... Chase Q and others filed out, along with the coach, as the stands started to fill with students to watch.

Glen shuffled past a row of zombies to claim the seat that Draconia saved for him.

"You know Drakie? The only bad thing about these practices is the snack bar isn't open."

Glen paused for a moment in thought and then smiled. He pulled out his iCoffin/wand and gave it a twirl and a small buffet of goodies appeared in front of them in a shower of green sparkles. Glen looked up at his beastie and smiled.

"What'll you have?"

"None for me, thank you kindly." Draconia replied, her eyes fixated on the field. Although she considered herself too clumsy to play most sports, she LOVED watching field sports. Her true favourite was actual football, of course, which all the Uhh-merican monsters called soccer. Her previous school, Avalon Academy, had a very impressive team that had won the Thorn Cup twenty-eight times. Draconia had intensely loved showing up and giving her team support from the stands.

Uhh-merican Football was drastically different (they used their HANDS! Why call it FOOTball if you can do that?!), but she loved a rousing round of tackles. It was hard sometimes for her to maintain her veneer of properness and decorum when she got really sucked into a game.

"COME ON, REF!" Draconia shrieked at the field. "YOU'VE GOT THREE EYES, KEEP AT LEAST ONE OF THEM ON THE GAME! THAT WAS CLEARLY A FLAG! BOO! BOOOOOO!"

Glen tapped Draconia on the shoulder to try to get her to sit back down.

"Uh...Drakie....they're just doing warmups right now..."

"Oh. Right." Draconia sat back down and leaned forward, sending as much mental warning to the referee as she possibly could.

Rory glanced out the windows of the Clawditorium at the football practice taking place on the field below. Coach Igor and Coach Verizhe were warming the team up, and Rory could see honorary student coach/tackling dummy Hoodude Voodoo preparing for the next warm-up.

Rory felt a twinge of jealousy. Football looked like a lot of fun, but it also looked spectacularly dangerous. One of the positions was CALLED a tackle, for mirror's sake! If only he-

"HEY!" Rory nearly jumped through the window as Venus was suddenly behind him, shouting to get his attention.

"Gah!" He replied, trying to retain his cool. Venus had changed out of her fronds and bark and into something a little more suitable for a pretend courtroom. Rory wished he had thought about bringing a second outfit with to school.

"I just wanted to say, good luck, okay?" Venus shot out a vine-clad hand for a handshake. Rory held up a hand, but then looked closer at the bright yellow powder trickling down from Venus. She followed his eyeline and gasped. "Oh, fertilizer! I'm sorry about that! You think I was- but I wasn't- I just forgot- Ooh....I'll be right back."

Had she been trying to dose him again with her "pollens of persuasion," or was she as nervous as he was, causing her to sweat mind-control pollen? Rory wasn't sure, but either way it was a hazard in the courtroom he hadn't really considered before.

Spooktators were starting to file into the mock-courtroom setup that Mr. Where had arranged for the Murk Trial reenactors. Rory recognized Slo-Mo, Spectra, Cy Clops and Robecca seated in the gallery area. He wondered if Marceline would actually make it to watch.

Mr. Where was seated in the judge's position. Rory was on one side of the court, assisted by Rochelle Goyle. Rochelle had an intense interest in 'the rules,' as all gargoyles did, and she probably should have been the lead 'lawyer' by Rory's estimation. However, she had insisted for this first trial she wanted to do more observing than acting (another gargoyle trait), so Rory had been elected to provide the bulk of their case. On Venus's side, she was seconded by Twyla, who hadn't seemed to have much to say so far.

Mr. Where rose to speak to the students.

"Students, welcome to our first public practice for Murk Trial club. We are a small group so far, but I am glad to see some interested student bodies watching from the gallery, and I hope our production convinces you to consider joining. In Murk Trial, we take the facts of famous and infamous old trials, research them, and develop our own defenses, prosecutions and cross-examinations. In doing so, we not only hope to learn more about monster law and the historical court cases that have shaped it, but to also learn the finer points of debating, public presentation and giving a compelling argument without rampaging all over in a torch-and-pitchfork-attracting way."

At this point, still wiping her hands on a paper towel, Venus came back into the room. Rory reached down into his book bag and surreptitiously grabbed the vial of anti-hisstimine that Marceline had made for him.

Better safe than sorry, right?

Mr. Where paused as Venus took her seat and the last of the interested students filed into the gallery.

Marceline was among the students to shuffle into the clawditorium, and was grateful that there were still many seats open towards the front. She gathered her skirt and sat down, her eyes immediately fixed on Rory. As he passed a glance over the gallery and his eyes landed on her, she grinned and offered a jittery wave. With Venus seemingly trying to influence him, Marceline was more worried than excited for Rory's prospects in Murk Trial... she hoped he had taken her anti-hisstamine, at least...
