Snap out of it! Nevena was disgusted with herself for even thinking of such a thing, stretching her legs out and running as hard as she could. If she were going to obtain ultimate power and anything she wanted, it would damn well be because she'd worked for it! Not because it had been handed to her!

Maybe the voice was affecting Ofelia more than she thought since her pace slowed down. Another step, and another.
The end had to be soon. That was why The Voice was growing so annoyed, right? There wouldn't've been so much annoyance and tiredness if it wasn't tired of trying to convince her otherwise, and if it wasn't on its last leg of convincing.
How many stairs had her tired body even climbed?

As soon as she heard that weariness, her pursuit of Aymet was forgotten. The Voice was their true opponent, not this infuriating King. It knew it was beaten, knew it couldn't win, and that drove her forward.
She was going to impale it on a stake in all sorts of unpleasant places.

Tears stung her eyes.
No, no she wasn't a fragment. She knew she wasn't. She existed in a place called Halloween. She had a good boilfriend, loving friends, too many pets to count and just as many scars. Tried and tested, and endured years of growing up, of going to school, of being attacked, used and defeated. That was real, all of it was; it was this world, not hers, that was the fake. She would continue to exist when this world fell, she knew it.
All she had to do was save Aymet. She had to.

Did she see a door?
Was that a door ahead?
Elated, no matter how heavy her back felt, no matter how hard it was to breathe, Nkosazana charged forward, determined to see the end of this through and get through whatever was in store for her. She would find The Voice. She would confront him.
It was then she saw what was written on the next door.
She would lose her eyesight the moment she stepped through the door. Of course. As if not being able to hear or speak was bad enough, now she couldn't even see what she was looking at. Was that going to be what she was left with, just her touch and smell? There had to be something at play here, some cruel unusual joke.
But her whole life had been a cruel and unusual joke, wasn't it? She had never really gotten the chance to exist. The version of her that existed was in some other kind of reality. This was her existence. This was the way that she would help out and find meaning to everything, get revenge for the horror he had caused all of them, the ignorance he had to the feelings of the people he had falsely created.
It was time to find out who was behind this, for those she was still attached to, and for herself.
She would get to the bottom of this.

It was getting hard to breath. Bastion had to take several breaks, but every time he caught his breath, he'd start up again and it would feel just as hard as the last few steps. Nothing helped. It was getting louder now, but Bastion still couldn't respond. It was frustrating him, even as he listened to his words. The Voice had created him.
