2 - 1 = 1 Failure

Still lacking in fatigue, Amaya decided to hold her plank a little longer this time while she allowed her mind to wander around. As she looked out into the arena the child saw movement everywhere, but not just from her teammates. No, the young girl understood that the world around her was alive and half the time she permitted her imagination to run wild and create breathing, living things. Amaya didn’t know what to call these manifestations. Her best guess was that they were imaginary friends, and friends they were. However, the girl also knew that they weren’t there. If they were real she would be able to talk and interact with them. She wasn’t imaginative enough to give them voices, thoughts, personalities, or the ability to interact on their own accord. No, it would have been just like talking to herself because she was still just so completely naïve about how people in the world functioned and acted. Instead, she was just happy watching the movement and drifting away into her mind.

The black haired girl took in some slow, deep breaths as she continued to hold her plank, though it hadn’t been very long. Shadows danced in front of her eyes and the breeze played marionette with its beloved tree, making the branches and leaves perform in an act that was never the same as the one before. It was one of the many simple pleasures that nature provided. However, there would always be time for Amaya to admire the ground in front of her later. Instead, the girl slowly lowered herself to note an odd pain in her right wrist. As she got closer and closer to that beloved ninety degree and she felt a sharp twinge and it rolled to the side, almost knocking the child over before she recovered herself. There was a dull throbbing on the palm side that was especially predominant when she was holding herself upright. It was tender and the child didn’t like putting weight on it, but she slowly allowed it to take on more and more of her body as she tried to settle back into her starting position. It was odd that it took until half way for anything to occur. After all there were times when her form had been plain sloppy but she was paying attention this time. It was entirely possible that she was just getting tired and didn’t realize it. Plus, she had been doing target practice with that hand, so the wrist had been especially worked. Then, if only to add onto her unopposed argument, there was also the knots that she had untied, all of the handseals that she had to learn, along with the chakra molding when she had to make a seal every time she made an attempt. Maybe it was simply that she had over exerted that wrist with the extensive work that she wasn’t accustomed to. Oh well, she would allow the throbbing before proceeding onto her next attempt.

Pakku was fairly happy at this point in time, he'd been doing great for a while now, and currently showed no sign of letting up. That is until now, as a slight bead of sweat slid down and off his nose his chakra began to waver slightly, he was losing control of it. "N-no not now..." He mumbled as he tried to regain control of his chakra. It didn't matter that he was new and this was to be expected, failure was still failure. In spite of all his efforts his the design on the cloak continued to waver and eventually completely disappeared.

2 - 1 = 1 Failure

It took a little while for the small girl to put full weight back on her wrist, struggling with her balance as she leaned off center and onto her left hand. Tenderly, the girl finally rocked over so that her weight was evenly distributed between the two hands. The child grimaced slightly as a shooting pain travelled up her arm into her shoulder, trying to convince her to kneel and to take the weight off her wrist. However, being as young as she is and as stubborn as she can be, the young girl simply gritted her teeth through the sensation and slipped into calm, almost rhythmic, breathing. While growing up Amaya wasn’t one who normal got hurt. While there was no prowess, she was strong for her size and her body was incredibly flexible; which made things a lot easier when those bound to happen child moments occurred. She had fallen out of countless trees, off of counters, chairs, and tables but always walked away unscathed. The black haired girl worked in a forgery and she had yet to burn herself, poke herself, or scratch herself, much less stab herself with any of the readily available weapons. Then again, it was also day to day child play; it didn’t require any skill or finesse, it simply was.

Having allowed herself to be distracted, she was trying to pull her attention from her throbbing wrist after all, the young girl decided it was time to give it another go even though it did hurt. Amaya practiced perfect form, inhaling slowly while lowering herself, but the same thing happened as the time before. That same right wrist rolled after she got to a certain point and she was unable to complete that final push up. That throbbing, shooting pain that she had worked to distract herself from was now back even stronger than the time before. Maybe she really had managed to hurt herself and was now making it worse than it was. No matter, she would have her instructor or Akeru look at it at the end of the day. Actually, if he was still around the young girl would most definitely seek out Akeru because she could talk to him without being terrified and she knew that he had extensive medical training. Something as simple as this would be trivial for him. Then again, maybe it would be best not to approach him with something as simple as a sore wrist because he was a medical professional. The last thing Amaya wanted to do was insult her new friend by downplaying his abilities and assuming that he would take interest in her simplistic matter. Plus, she was supposed to be a shinobi in training! This was no matter and it shouldn’t make an impact on her training. This was something the young Keiji was going to war at in her mind for a little while, but regardless of her decision she was going to finish this task that she had assigned to herself. Even then she may not seek out someone. If it got better then there would be no need for her to ask anybody.

Pakku sighed and leaned back slightly, wiping sweat from his forehead, contemplating his next move. Not that it took very long, his very nature demanded his try again. Taking a deep breath he leaned forward and focused his chakra on the blank cloak, but to no avail. Whatever he had been doing correctly was suddenly gone, and he couldn't get it back. Leaning back he sighed again and looked around, a few people were already done, damn. Sighing again he looked at a girl who was doing some pushups. "Are you finished? Could you help me out?" He asked akwardly. "I'll let you play with Chisana." He said, trying to use somekind of fake smile, girls like dogs right?

Nodding to show her approval, Sakura squinted at the edges to see how well they had blurred. She could barely see the outlines of the cloak, and all in all it was a well-done job.

"That was good Shiro-kun!" she called out, seeing that he didn't seem to mind the change, but actually seeming more comfortable. "I couldn't tell you were there behind the tree this time. It looks like you don't have any problems with the pattern at all." she praised, noting the blend-in was much more smoother now that he had concentrated his chakra to the edges more. Grabbing the cloth that was next to her, she tried the jutsu again, and was pleased with the results of her chakra control. That is, until she saw what print she had been holding up. Groaning, she promptly squatted down and hid under the covers, in embarrassment. She had picked up the light brown wooden fence print, not the darker tree bark cloak that she had meant to use.

Sakura mumbled something incoherently through the cloth, which sounded suspiciously like something under the lines of 'stupid cloak' and 'not my fault' under her breath before peeking out from under her sanctuary.

"Well, she said smiling a little abashedly, "that was an example of what you shouldn't do. Now you know what not to do when you want to hide." Tossing the cloaks in a pile to the right side of the bench, she sat down and sorted through the cloaks again, examining the now suddenly very interesting textures of each print.

Yae lowered the cloak down to look at herself. She saw a square of tree bark instead. Although it was hard to judge for herself whether or not she was replicating the tree behind her accurately, she was quite convinced by what she saw. Even if there were mild inconsistencies with the cloak and tree, someone standing back a few meters wouldn't be able to discern them. Perhaps she had been wrong about the previous day's training having been useless. Kakuremino no jutsu seemed to be much easier than she remembered.

Now she had an excuse to check out the second cloak. It was curiously plain compared to the tree cloaks. Almost completely white, the thing was speckled with sparse bits of black. At first Yae had no idea what it could possibly be. It had to be something here at the academy, or else why would they have been giving it for the training? That's when she caught on. The cloak was the academy! Or rather, the white plaster walls of the academy. The extremely rare black specks, she decided, must be in case of an inconsistency in the paint, though the current coat looked extremely smooth.

Yae pressed back into a shaded nook of the building, where the specks of black would be less damaging. The wall was lukewarm against her back, it was quickly losing the heat it had gained from the morning sun. She held the cloak over herself, using a minimal amount of chakra to hide the edges. She figured you could honestly get away with using no chakra, seeing as this cloak was incredibly simple compared to the others.

Moving right along like a good little ninja, Shikakuya looked towards the next seal he needed to complete. He was glad to see there were only two left because he was growing tired of the tedium of this exercise but he kept on. The finish line was almost in sight after all, no point in quitting now even if he hadn't been adverse to that sort of cowardice. He had two choices, the Ox or the Horse seal, but he immediately shied away from the Horse seal. It seemed to be too similar to the Dragon seal and quite frankly his fingers needed a break. So he took his time performing the Ox seal so he could be recovered enough for the attempt.

To begin he once more intertwined his fingers but he let them hang over the back of his palms instead of being painfully squashed between his palms. Then he raised up the pink and them of his left hand, so that they were springing straight out his palm like shoots from fertile soil. He then rotated his right so that it was parallel to the ground and snaked his left ring finger such that it lay flat under the palm of his other hands. Presto! Another seal was complete and he could move onto the final phase of this exercise.

Shikakuya looked at the last handsign and just sighed. It didn't look overly complicated but it did look fairly painful for finger still sore and smarting from misuse. So he stared slowly and carefully not wanting to work to fast and just hurt himself more but also not willing to wait too long to finish the exercise. To start with he held up his hands so that both palms faced his chest and his fingers overlapped while his thumbs pointed skyward. He then raised up his pointers to form a triangle between his hands and then bent his thumbs to point at his knuckles, so that they formed two mini-triangles to bookend his pointers. He then moved on the most difficult part for him, that was to intertwine and curls his other fingers into tiny balls until he heard that blessed chime. As that sweet sound toned within his mind, he released the hand seal and collapsed tired back into his chair. In a minute he'd get up and do something productive again but for now he'd earned a little rest.

Shiro smiled as he received Sakurayuki's compliments. Her enthusiasm behind the words really made him believe that she truly meant what she said. He then lowered his cloth and watched she picked out a new cloth of her own. He couldn't stop himself from chuckling slightly as he looked at the wooden fence that now appeared to be before him. "Well that was an example of what you shouldn't do. Now you know what not to do when you want to hide." "You're pretty funny Yuki Chan.." he said as he laughed at her joke. Still feeling good after getting the hang of the one tree bark style, and from Sakurayuki's joke the boy moved away from the tree and back to the bench so that he could swap out the camo patterns. Due to this generally positive and somewhat jovial feeling, the boy paid little attention to what cloth he actually picked. He then walked out to a small outcropping of rocks and held up the cloth. What he didn't realize was that he had also picked out the fence cloth and had now created a single section of fence next to a bunch of rocks. Shiro glanced, around the cloth to check how he was doing for himself and realized he mistake. "I guess this is an exercise in what not to do."

Shiro seemed to find her mess-up funny, and Sakura laughed, enjoying the joke at her expense. But not for long though. Yuki had to stifle a laugh when Shiro did the same thing. Now there was a patch of fence in the rocks, and Yuki heard Shiro as he commented on his mistake. "I guess this is an exercise in what not to do."

Tutting playfully, she shook her head, wondering if he had done it on purpose just to tease her. Switching spots, she turned to the fence this time, ready for something else other than the tree bark she had been practicing on. She gathered her cloaks and tried the jutsu again, but her arms were a little tired, and after a while, they started drooping to the floor, little by little. It came down to the point where the bottom started crumpling up, showing that the illusion was false. She would need to remember to keep it in place, not too high up and not too low.

Frowning a little before climbing up to one of the lower branches of the tree and sitting there, she took the beige colored fence print and shrugged at Shiro, a little tired, but still having fun nevertheless. It was better than having to do it by herself, she thought as she warned him to keep the cloak steady instead of moving it for fear of someone seeing the movements. "Be careful of having the cloak flutter in the breeze too. It may help to spread the chakra through and stiffen it a little, if you can. Would you mind testing out the theory?"

I play, [The Dice God] card, face down, in defense mode! I also play these two magic cards, [The Fair Maiden In Distress] which raises it's defense by 3000 points and [Lucky Roll] which allows me to attack the opponent directly! I end my turn.

Obviously, the dice gods don't love me at all. -_-

Shiro watched as Sakurayuki practiced the jutsu in among the branches of a tree. It was okay initially but then the cloth began to sag and become more noticeable. Shortly thereafter it seemed that her arms gave and the girl could no longer hold up the cloth and maintain the illusion. "Be careful of having the cloak flutter in the breeze too. It may help to spread the chakra through and stiffen it a little, if you can. Would you mind testing out the theory?" she asked him. "It's sounds like a solid theory Yuki-chan. I'll give it a go for you!" he stated enthusiastically as he moved to switch cloths. This time he went and thoughtfully picked out the gray cloth before heading back to the rocks. This time he blended in better, and applied his chakra with the aims of making the cloth stiff. By creating a current of chakra he was able to force the strings making up the cloth stiff and aid him in holding up the cloth. However he found it to be somewhat difficult. Shiro also figured that since his current cloth did not have a pattern, he was going to need to add more chakra to do that as well. However that could wait until he attempted it again.

"Eh, It's kind of difficult to do Yuki-chan but it works. Just think of your chakra like an electrical current and focus on making the strings stiff."

11 + 1 + 1(Shiro) = 13 Pass! (Huh, Pokemon worked.)

Sakura watched as Shiro used the chakra to hold the strands still, but it seemed it looked a little hard. She listened as the white haired boy explained that it was possible, but a little hard to do. 'Make them like an electrical current', huh? Nodding, she heeded his words as he moved to switch places with her. Looking at the cloak, she picked up one from the bottom of the pile, which was the tree bark print that she had wanted to pick up before. Grabbing the edges, Sakura went to the middle of the trunk, making sure she had a firm grip of the bark before trying to blend in again. This time, she focused her chakra to all parts of the cloak, trying to blend it in while using her chakra like starch, binding the individual strings in place as well as she could. It was a lot harder then she thought, and she struggled to keep the chakra well distributed while blending it into the background. It seemed to work though, as she faded away to a dull and boring swirl of tree bark. The stiffness held it still and seemed to stop the wind from making ripples in the cloth, but she couldn't help but feel that this stillness was a little unnatural.

Putting the cloak down, she asked for some advice. "Eh, you're right, it does work to an extent. But I can't help but feel that it's a little unnatural to be so stiff. What does it look to you from the outside? Do you think it was better?" she asked, curious of his opinion. After all, she couldn't exactly see herself do the jutsu, so it was important what the viewer thought.

Imagine Fudou's surprise when the colours of the cloak actually shifted and the edge blurred away, blending completely with the tree. Now that he thought about it, he remembered Ko-sensei saying something about drawing the colours from the surroundings into the cloth... Fudou supposed he should have paid more attention in class just now instead of assuming that he knew it all. Of course, the illusion was broken where Fudou held the cloth, since it was bunched up, but once he let the cloth fall it was almost invisible. Only the creases where he held it gave a hint of the cloth's dimensions and location.

Yae confirmed for him that it wasn't just his brain trying to fool him into thinking that he was succeeding. He watched as she leaned against the tree again. Might as well see how she did it and take some pointers from her technique. In front of Fudou's very eyes she faded into the tree.

Fudou tried with his chakra at the edge of the cloth several more times before he could really gather up the resolve to try shielding himself again. In this time, Yae had managed to pick up another cloth and blend in equally well with the academy's white walls. Though she was obvious when moving, when she stood still as a statue the shadows disappeared and it was like they were part of the wall's design. Well, he knew what he'd do if forced to choose between a wall and a tree to hide against now!

"That was good. See, yesterday's work paid off." Unfortunately, nothing particularly useful popped up in his mind, but... he didn't give compliments that often, right? That could be encouragement fuel or something. Deciding to finally get his butt into motion, Fudou put some chakra into the edges of the cloth and leaned against the tree.

20 - 1 = 19 Success
[Natural 20 Double Success]

Alright, now that the black haired Keiji was thinking herself further and further into a mental battle she found that she was suddenly highly irritated. The child was frustrated that she was suddenly too weak to do a single push up. She had been doing fine, pushing through the exercise in expert fashion with perfect form on almost every attempt, but her flimsy little wrist apparently decided that it was no longer up to the challenge and that it would prefer just to make things difficult for her. Fine, she had worked it quite a bit over the course of the day, far more than she usually did, but that shouldn’t have been an excuse. At that point the child drew herself back in. It wasn’t like her to go on a rant, even a mental one, so the young girl backed off and allowed herself to breath. Sure, it wasn’t her ideal situation but she wasn’t severely injured. Her wrist wasn’t broken, she wasn’t bleeding. Worst case scenario was a minor sprain and that was no big deal. The child knew that could be worked through without her having to back off, slow down, or hold off on training, so it really wasn’t that big of a deal. Was it disappointing? Yes, it was especially since it was her first day of training. Could it have been much worse? Since injuries don’t come much less harsh as a slight sprain, absolutely. Would her mother freak out and insist on her staying home the next day because the lifestyle was all too dangerous? Yes, without a doubt but that wouldn’t actually stop the child from attending her class the next day. Plus, her father would be able to help her reason with and calm her mother. He was always good for that.

Once the young girl had swept to both sides of the spectrum, from disappointment to frustration to everything else that could possibly apply to the situation except devastation, she was able to settle back into that calm, happy mode that was always present in her. While the throbbing in her wrist was still tugging at her attention, she was able to focus on the fact that she was at the Academy and that she was in the middle of the beginning steps to becoming a shinobi. Amaya had met some wonderful people that day and experienced some unusual events that her home life never would have been conducive to. That same small smile stayed in place on her face as the girl took in a deep breath of warm early spring air and allowed that happiness to take over. While Amaya wouldn’t normally have experienced all those crazed emotions, it had been a somewhat stressful day and the overall extreme emotions of the group had worn her down. Yes, she would eventually learn to deal and cope with their outbursts and their tremendous feelings, but for a first day she had experienced a lot. At least she would be sleeping well that evening.

Content that she was able to put the pain in her wrist at the back of her mind, the small, black haired girl decided it was time to try and push through the weakness she had been experiencing and push through persistent, though neither intense nor stabbing, boughs of pain that she was sure to feel while making her attempts. Focusing mostly on keeping her wrists strong and in position, Amaya took a deep breath in as she lowered herself; actually staring at her wrist and willing it to stay in place. Once she was down to the ninety degree angle that she strove for she stopped and held the position. This wasn’t for the sake of the exercise but for making sure that she wrist could withstand the pressure she was putting on it and for her to get a feel of what minor alterations she needed to make in order to work with the exercise. After a few seconds staying low to the ground, the child let out a sharp, though always silent, exhale as she pushed herself up. The girl had a hard time forcing herself to a full locked position as she felt a sharp pain move up her arm. However, she held it and came to the complete finish position, proud that she had worked through it.

Amaya was fairly certain that she was simply working with a minor sprain if it was even that. It wasn’t going to stop her now, so the girl didn’t remain in her locked position. Instead, the child went straight into the next push up. This time, she paid attention to her breathing being in time with her movements. Amaya wanted to finish inhaling as she reached the bottom and exhaling as she locked out without any extra air moving after the fact. That way, she would be holding for the sake of strengthening her muscles instead of allowing her breathing to catch up with her actions. Down she went, slight hold, and then she stop back up to the top of her position. It felt good to be working out and the young girl could quite easily see herself exercising religiously. That was what her father used to do before her brothers came along. Maybe that was a trait they shared. No matter, the young girl was happy with her progress and noted that fact that she would soon be done with this exercise. That would mean that she would be able to take on yet another challenge and continue pushing herself through the day. It was an exciting prospect and now the child didn’t even note the minimal throbbing in her wrist. Yeah, she was fine; just a little panicking and overreacting.

10 - 1 = 9 Failure

It was evident that the signs of spring were setting in; as if time was moving in slow motion. Everyone looked far more relaxed than they normally would have and their movements appeared eased, even though everyone was continuing with tremendous success. That was the interesting this about the season. It was as if it was able to grab you by the hand and coax you into just walking alongside it instead of rushing through the day to day drudge that everyone was subjected to. Spring showed you wondrous beauty and the beginning of life renewed. There was a jovial dance of flower heads swaying in the breeze, butterflies flitting about as they pleased, bees zipping about as they carried out their daily chores, and massive trees awakening from their immobile slumber in order to rock and shiver with the flowers. Spring is often considered one of the most romantic times of the year and the young child could see why. Everything was so lovely and pristine, there was something in the air that lifted worries and allowed happiness to settle in its place. Mind you, the young Keiji wasn’t one to worry, but she was always the happiest in the spring and in the fall. However, her favorite of the two was the very beginning of spring when the world was just starting to come alive.

Amaya took in a few slow, deep breaths; allowing herself to relish in the renewed sense of nature. As she did so, a young leaf fell from the tree above her, too weak to hang on the limb through the force of the gentle breeze, and landed on her head. The child tried to look, but it was difficult to see objects that were sitting on top of her head. So, she remedied her situation and softly shook her head, causing the tender, green leaflet to flutter to the ground. Its color was still pale and the various veins, because Amaya didn’t know what else to refer to them as, were predominant against the pale green. Though it may have seemed destructive to some, the young child loved to pull the fallen leaves apart to see inside of them. She was fascinated by the sticky residue that slowly seeped onto her fingers and she would play, pull, and twist the doomed foliage. Now, she only did this to plants that had already fallen and were doom to rot back into the ground, so she didn’t feel like she was hurting anything. With a near silent giggle, the child blew a puff of air towards the leaf, causing it to jump and gently skitter across the ground.

It was then, however, that Amaya realized that she had been neglecting her training. Sure, it was slow and mundane, but it had a benefit and she wasn’t reaping it if she was just holding herself there. That was an advantage of being only sixty pounds though, she could hold herself in one spot for a very long time. Taking in her breath, still soaking in the smells of spring, the girl lowered herself and raised herself. The young girl did not count that as a success, however, because there was no acceleration on her lift. Oh well, she had allowed herself to become distracted and if that was the price then she would simply have to live with it and make another attempt after reeling her mind back into the present.
