That one token gave her a teensy tinesy ounce of hope.
Like bite sized. Less than bite sized.
Pixie sized.
Danny spun the wheel. Nothing came out. Hope was lost.
Her fist lit up, and she smashed the roulette wheel.
Jackdammit Roch.

Moure nodded as they all were given one token for failing. At least it was failing with a reward.
The patchwork took the offered coin and added it to his winnings. "Thank you for your generousity, Dealer... Riley." Moure nodded to the purple demoness, realizing this was the woman he'd heard so much about. While he was tempted to play against Danny as she dove for the gambling games, he thought he'd already had enough of them for now, and as such headed back toward the other areas of prom, offering his date a wave while he walked away. "Good luck Danny."

Breathe in, breathe out. It didn’t matter that he was dead and had no reason to breathe anymore. Old habits were hard to break, even if it wasn’t air that he used to breathe. Whoever designed the prom did a good job, even if it was at times too good of a job. Merope felt like he blended into the scenery with his own bioluminescent markings, a feeling that was backed up by the fact that his tail had been stepped on numerous times already. Was that why he couldn’t find his date? Was meeting up at prom such a bad idea?
The roulette tables were in sight. He picked up the pace, ready to try his luck when the flame demoness popped up again. Immediately he slammed on his brakes, spinning on one hell and retreating back towards the slot machines as fast as his dignity would allow him to.
He did not slow down until he came into sight of the slot machines. Even then he did not settle down, going so far as to look around. Was she here? No? Good. He dropped into an empty seat and pulled the lever, keeping his fins pressed tightly to his back and tail wrapped around the slot machines’ chair as best as he could.

The slot machine rattled and clattered like old bones as its wheels spun, clicking into place one by one. Two matching; two tokens. It was small, but it was a start... wasn’t it? He hoped so.
Merope reached up and gave the machine another yank.

As he released his grip, the level retracted and its wheels spun. One, two, three -- two more tokens for his trouble. This couldn’t be happening, could it? Suspicious, Merope pulled the lever again and watched.

One wheel spun into place. The second one matched the first; the third did not. Merope’s fins twitched as the machine spat out two more tokens, amazement creeping over his features. He had won not one, but three times in a row. Three.
As tempted as he was to reach forward and claim them, he was worried. What if the fact that he didn’t pick them up was the cause of his luck? He didn’t want to ruin his winning streak. It was the best thing that had happened to him all night!
He swallowed, grabbing the lever and pulling it again.

The wheels rattled into place. Merope let the breath he was holding out, stretching his fins before settling them down against his back. He did not press them tightly against his back as before. This was an improvement. Perhaps his night would turn around after all.
He reached out and gave the lever one last pull, curious to see the result.

It began softly. Then it grew into a soft ripple expanding until it escaped him in a quick bark of laughter. Two matches, two of a pair, two tokens! He turned, laughing as if to nudge someone and go Hey, check this out! Four out of five with a match every time!
But there wasn’t anyone there. He did not come into this game area with someone. The boil sighed, mirth evaporating as he scooped up his token wins and wandered away from the slot machine.
At least the flame demoness was gone. Merope stepped up to the roulette table and placed a bet before picking up a small ball and giving the wheel a spin.

The wheel clickered and clattered in a similar fashion to the slot machine before stopping on a number. It... wasn't the number he was looking for. Merope shrugged, picking up another small ball and trying again.

Third time's the charm? Nope. Unless it was slots, Merope decided. The slots were at least friendly. He picked up a ball and gave it one last spin, squeezing in one last chance before the game room closed.

The ball rolled to a stop, and Merope was the proud owner of two additional tokens. Two. He held them in his hand and stared at them, his fins drooping. Yet again he was reminded of the fact that he was alone, pairless on a night that was dedication to celebration with someone. He could have even sworn that some people were here with more than one other person.
Him? He shoved the tokens into his pocket and left wordlessly.
