 [Silverstar spotted Hawkkit slinking out of camp.] "Hawkkit!" [She called sternly. She padded briskly up to him, her gaze hard.] "You must have a mentor or warrior with you. Thunderpaw is going for a training session. You will be apprenticed soon. Actually, right now."

[When Silverstar scolded Hawkkit, terror ripped through me. The last thing I had wanted to do was get him in trouble. But at the mention of being apprenticed, my eyes widened, and I let out an excited squeal.]
"Oh! Really?! Thank StarClan!" I cried.
Whipping around and running up to Hawkkit, I said, "You're going to be apprenticed!"
[As if he hadn't already heard.
But I was so excited for him, for the fact that he wasn't going to be stuck in camp any longer, that I felt as if it was I who was being apprenticed.
I batted his ear playfully.
Then realizing I had messed up his fur, I quickly fixed it by licking it down.]
"Oh dear, I'm sorry...you have to look good for your ceremony!"
[I licked his ear vigorously, with a fiery determination in my eyes, as if his life depended on the ceremony.]

[Silverstar stopped a moment. She glanced back and saw the looks exchanged between the two. She sighed, and turned to Thunderpaw, her eyes very weary. She spoke slowly, with much effort.] "There is something...I must do first. I promise, we will go train after this." [Silverstar felt bad, but Hawkkit's apprentice ceremony must happen. She leapt up to the Fernhill, her sides heaving. She shook herself and let out a familiar yowl:] "Let all cats old enough to catch their own prey gather beneath the Fernhill for a Clan meeting!"

[I stopped licking and turned to Silverstar, nodding. As long as Hawkkit would become Hawkpaw, I was happy.
I continued licking him, making sure he looked his best. It was just like a tom to run up there without being groomed!
He seemed shocked, so I didn't say anything. This would be a day he would remember forever; it was him and Silverstar, now.]

[Silverstar watched as all the cats gathered around. She waited, and then signaled for Hawkkit to come forward.] "I, Silverstar, leader of StormClan, look to my ancestors and approve this apprentice. He will be taught the ways of your noble code, and learn to defend his Clan with his life." [She turned to Hawkkit.] "Do you promise to learn and repect the warrior code, respect senior warriors, and learn to uphold the warrior code with your life?"

 H a w k k i t“Learn from yesterday, live for today, hope for tomorrow.”___________________________Hawkkit nearly felt his heart fly out of his jaws as Silverstar scolded him. A moment later, he was being apprenticized! He simply could not believe that the day was finally here! Hawkkit stood before the Fernhill, a gleam of utter triumph in his eyes.
“I do.”
Hawkkit answered sternly, yet simlultaneously with sheer joy. He anxiously shifted on his paws, wondering who could possibly become his mentor.

 IceStorm turned to face her leader. *Hawkkit's ceremony!* IceStorm was glad. She wanted to get to know the kit a little bit better.

"Then, by name of StarClan, until you earn your warrior name, you will be known as Hawkpaw." [Silverstar signals to Icestorm. Icestorm pads up.] "Icestorm, you are ready for an apprentice and I trust you will pass all of your knowledge down to Hawkpaw." [Silverstar steps back, so mentor and apprentice can touch noses.]

[I wiggled happily from my poisition at front row. A pur was dying to escape my throat, but I held it in because of the respectful silence.
I waited for Silverstar to say the words that woul move Hawkkit one step closer to his warrior name.]

IceStorm was calm as she moved forward and touched noses with Hawkpaw. She was glad to have an apprentice, it would help her keep her mind off things. Plus now she and FireStorm could disscuss teaching methods as well. excitement flashed in IceStorm eyes but quickly faded away.

H a w k p a w“Learn from yesterday, live for today, hope for tomorrow.”___________________________ Hawkpaw padded slowly up to Icestorm, his amber-golden eyes wide as moons and glistening with undisguised joy. Feeling his paws tremble, he stretched his neck to touch noses with the noble warrior. Icestorm was his mentor! Hawkpaw could hardly believe it! Now they could hunt, train, and fight together, like warriors! Hawkkit could barely suppress a loud purr that clawed at his throat. He studied Icestorm's eyes, only to realize that the excitement that was there for a split second had vanished.

 SilverClaw looked at her friend with admiration. SilverClaw wanted an apprentice as well. She held a purr deep within her throat.

"Hawkpaw! Hawkpaw!" I chanted estatically. [I felt so happy. I finally had a good friend to train with, to hunt with. I'd tried with Jadepaw, but Firestorm was a loyal mentor- Jadepaw was always out training.
And, after this, I would be training, finally, with Silverstar.
I happily purred, feeling pleased. I approached him.]
"Congratulations, Hawkpaw," I whispered, my eyes shining. "Told you Silverstar was planning on making you warrior soon!"

"Thunderpaw!" [Silverstar leapt down from the Fernhill, her eyes glistening with newfound energy.] "Why don't you invite Hawkpaw and Icestorm to train with us? It would open Hawkpaw's eyes to some moves. We will also hunt during this time." [Silverstar waved her tail happily.]
((Eh, there is no vigil for apprenticeship. Only warriors. ^.~ Also, we will find an infected squirrel, so we will start the Madnes chapter. wink ))
