Yofiel tried to calm down a little. She got her tray and filled it with some chinese food, along with some mixed fruit. She paid and headed back to the table. Bowing her head, she said a small prayer over her meal before starting to eat. "mmmm this is good!"

Rachel smiled a little as she started to eat her own food. She hadn't had anything to eat since before she arrived at school yesterday - the incident at the mall destroyed any appetite she would have had for sushi at the time. It took her a minute or so to realize how quickly she was shoving food into her face before she slowed down to a more polite pace.
"Wow... I hadn't realized how hungry I was," she remarked, taking a drink of her soda.

Yofiel shrugged, then laughed a bit. "I'm hungry too, so don't worry! At least we can go get seconds if we want!" she finished her chinese food, barley able to use it with the chop sticks. "I'm getting better with them!" She laughed as she dropped the bottem stick, hanging her head.

Rachel laughed a little at this, reaching over to pick up the chopsticks. She gripped them correctly, holding her hand out for Yofiel to look at, and them demonstrated picking up a stray glob of cheese from the plate her pizza had been sitting on.
"It's not that hard once you get used to it," she said plainly. "The trick is to keep the bottom stick stationary. You only move this finger here." She showed her again, clicking the chopsticks against each other.

Yofiel laughed. "You make it look so easy!" she tried to mimic her, picking up a strawberry. "I got it!" she went to eat it, only to have it drop onto her lap. She quickly picked it up and put it on her plate. She scrubbed at the mark on her skirt, hoping it wouldn't stain.

Handing the chopsticks back to Yofiel so she could have another go at it, Rachel smiled again, waving her hand dismissively. "Nah, it's really not that big a deal... My family lived in Japan for a while, so I just kinda picked it up..."
Watching as the girl failed again with the chopsticks, Rachel handed her a napkin. "You'll get it eventually."

Yofiel accepted the napken, scrubbing the stain. "I guess I will. I never lived anywhere special...I don't really have many talents..." she giggled. "So, what classes are you taking? Anything..different from the core classes?" she sipped her milkshake, savoring the chocolate flavor. Sure, it completely threw off the healthy part of her lunch...but it was soo good!

Rachel chewed on her second slice of pizza, thinking the question over. She missed all of her first day of classes, so she really wasn't sure what any of them were about just yet. Aside from that, though, she didn't think they'd really be anything too special.
"Um... not sure yet. Right now I'm just signed up for some science and computer classes, and the standard 'this is the class where you train your powers' class. Nothing too out of the ordinary, I guess."

Yofiel giggled. "I haven't been to my class yet. I have an art class though! I'm not too bad with a pad and pencil!" she skewered a strawberry and ate it. "I am being trained in the ways of a priestess though...it's what my family wants. i think it will be fun!" She shrugged, chewing the strawberry.

Rachel nodded, blinking a few times at the girl's statement. She wondered exactly what it was she was capable of, and what she had come here to study, but didn't bother asking. That would be a little rude, given that they'd just met an hour ago.
"Well, as long as it's what you want to do," she said, taking a bite out of her apple and chewing it thoughtfully. "Don't just blindly follow your parents' example if you really want to do something else with your life."
She chuckled a little to herself. Here she was, giving advice to someone she barely knew based on her own life experience. Rachel had never considered herself all that worldly, and it usually wasn't like her to offer advice, but this was a subject that hit somewhat close to home for her.
"Live your own life," she said, nodding.

Yofiel thought about that for a minute, chewing on the end of her chop sticks. "That is good advise to live by! My parents wanted me to be a priestess at our village...butI got them to let me come here. I want to use my magic to help people..." she hushed her voice slightly. "Plus, I can do more then just charming small trinkets and healing the sick.' she winked, giggling at her own little secret.

Rachel smirked at this. Using her magic to help people - Yofiel sounded like Rachel's father for a moment there. For once, that thought actually cheered her up a little. He was always like that, though, according to her mom... always trying to save everyone from everything. She never really understood it, herself.
"Hmm?" she asked, raising an eyebrow at Yofiel. "Hiding something special, eh?"
She wasn't about to pursue the matter any further than that. Everyone was entitled to their secrets, and besides, it's not like Rachel was exactly willing to talk about her own powers at this point either.

Something went off inside of Yofiel's purse, playing the fan fare to final fantasy VII. she dug into her purse, pulling out a compact organizer. she then checked her watch and nodded. "I hate to cut thi short, but I have to go to my first class." She gathered her things, scrubbing at the stain one last time. "Thanks for hanging out with me this morning...I didn't want to feel like too much of a nerd." she giggled, jotting down something on a piece of paper. 'that's my dorm number and my cell. If you want to give me a call, feel free. I'm pretty good with math, so if you need hlep, let me know." She waved and left.
((I gotta go, see ya!))

Rachel nodded, waving to Yofiel as she announced she had to go. She took the piece of paper, looking it over for a few seconds before shoving it into her pocket.
"All right. See you around," she said, nodding. "I'll give you a call sometime."
Finishing the rest of her meal in quiet contemplative silence, Rachel thought back to the e-mail from her mother. It was really amazing, how mothers always seemed to manage to be so smart. She'd barely even had to try, and she'd already managed to make a friend somehow, even if it was just a random fluke.
Well... guess I'll go study some.
And with that, she headed off for the library.

Rachel came back from the library later that evening to eat dinner. As she came to the end of the line, she noticed a poster hanging on the wall advertising for a job opening as a dishwasher.
Hmm... campus job, huh? she thought to herself. Dishwashing should be a piece of cake with my powers. I bet nobody else wants that job, either, so I should be able to keep it pretty secret.
She headed back to the table she and Yofiel were eating at earlier, sitting and thinking as she ate her meal. By the time she was finished, she had decided to go ahead and apply for the position. After taking her tray up, she walked over to the door to the kitchen and craned her neck to look in. Not noticing anyone back there at the moment, she knocked on the door a few times, hoping someone would answer.
"Hello? I'm here to apply for the dishwashing job..."
After waiting for several minutes without an answer, Rachel shrugged and began to turn away. Stopping for a moment, she took out a piece of paper from her bookbag, writing a note and tacking it up to the door of the kitchen with a stolen bit of tape from the job posting on the wall.
Hello. Came to apply for dishwashing job, but no one was in. Am still interested, if position is open. Contact Rachel Robertson.
