Hanabira merely smiled as she set down the bento box for Aya and Kiba while moving around to other parts of the boat to try and find Tanu.

Yuki smiled as she spotted Akiko sprinting down towards the docks, dodging through people, but being knocked around like a pinball. The clan leader of the Tenmoki's smiled and rubbed her forehead as Akiko took the form of a shuriken. No one in her clan was rather good with genjutsu. "Alright, my darling," Yuki said as she picked up Akiko who was in the form of a shuriken. The girl had a lot to learn about genjutsu. The first thing was that if you assumed the form of an item, it didn't mean you took on its properties. "Get ready!" Yuki shouted as she launched her niece into the air, zipping over the docks and heads of everyone working towards the waters in which the boat was leaving.

[lol, nice job.]

Aya didn't even move when Kiba took his first swing since the thrust came up short. She smiled and played along with his 'testing' as she moved to the balls of her feet. "Good! Cause you would've caught me off guard there," Aya said with a giggle. As the rest of their squad got on the boat, Aya turned and sighed with relief seeing that Kazuma was with them... and being carried by Kane. "Teha~! Thanks for bringing my baggage," Aya giggled, referring to Kazuma as the boy was dumped near some boxes on the deck floor. She was sure the first wave on the sea would give him a refreshing wake up call. "Oh, thank you, Hana-chan!" Aya said as she watched the girl set down the bento box near her and Kiba. The Tenmoki girl had already had breakfast and a lot of it, but more food was always appreciated! Expecting Kiba to go over and take a bite, Aya was impressed that he stayed focused and went for a horizontal slice.

Aya: Practice Form
The Tenmoki has great speed and agility with her attacks, but due to her lack of form, her attacks are easily noticed and dodged. She will practice them with a little more diligence with a good competitor.

Akiko was surprised at the launch. She expected to be thrown, but she severely overestimated how far she would travel. Was it because she didn't assume enough of the properties of the kunai whose form she had taken? Or perhaps was it because she had never truly taken the form at all? She didn't really understand genjutsu all that well, and it would likely take a great deal of research before she became truly competent at it. It was rather odd traveling through the air. At the top and on the way down, it almost felt like she was weightless. It was a thrilling feeling, to be sure. She'd have to investigate into the matter later--along with the strange effects of the genjutsu she was experiencing. As she broke her Henge no Jutsu, she found herself a good twenty feet or so above the water, but not close enough to the boat to land on it. She'd have to settle with getting the package itself there. She quickly grabbed the container bearing the scroll and tossed it as hard as she could. Hopefully, it would sail over the waters and land upon the boat. In the meantime, she had the seas below with which to contend. She didn't really know much about diving--or swimming, for that matter--but she'd have to contend with the waves and learn the hard way.

Aya was a really good person. Not everyone would have so smoothly let Kiba's little mis-swing with the sheath go. As the boat was finally gaining some distance from the shore Kiba thought about how this was his first mission, but these thoughts were soon inturrupted. Looking up at the sky the dark eyes of the Raiken percieved a flash of light in the sky which turned out to be a shining kunai flying towards the boat. The random kunai caught Kiba off guard enough, but when it suddenly turned into a package hurling person he could hardly believe his eyes. The package-thrower was unfamiliar to the young Raiken and he watched the stranger plummet towards the water. As the falling figure dissapeared with the boat's progress Kiba tried to return his focus to his training with Aya. As Kiba made a swift forward jab with the sheath the shore continued to shrink until it was only a line on the horizon and then gone.

Yuki watched as Akiko threw the gift to her mother on the boat. The principal couldn't help but smile at Akiko's daring move as she landed in the water. Cupping her hands around her mouth, Yuki cheered for the girl. She then proceeded to put her hands on her hips to watch and see if Akiko knew how to swim or not.

((I do hope this isn't going to be another one of THOSE trainings... please, be nice to me, Mr. Dice...))

In the half-second before she hit the water, Akiko's body stiffened. Gone now was the surreal joy of freefall. It hurried away with the advent of the azure deep that awaited her. Now in its place was a very real feeling of dread, knowing what awaited her but not knowing if she would survive. As she approached the surface of the water, she could almost feel it before she even hit. It was like the waves had lives of their own, and they surged up to meet her. She had always felt at peace around water, but now it was nothing but a threat. She took one final breath before plunging below the surface...

She was inverted when she collided with the water. Her arms were sprawled out in some existentially futile attempt to stop the inevitable, but it was her shoulder and head that took the brunt of the collision. She was stunned for several seconds as a stinging sensation quickly took hold of her. It felt like a giant hand had slapped her right across her head, neck, and shoulder. She gasped a little, but this only served to release some of the precious air she had been holding in her mouth. She quickly clamped down on the remaining air, not letting any of it out. Something inside her ears began to ache a little, and she couldn't see much of anything. Not only was it much darker than the surface, but it hurt to even open her eyes. The salty waters assaulted her whenever it did, and it even seeped in when she clenched them shut. It was also remarkably cold; she hadn't a clue it would be so frigid. Had she the time, she would've noticed that goosebumps were beginning to form on her arms and legs. However, that was the least of her concerns at the moment.

((Yeeeep, I'm gonna die...))

Akiko's lungs began to burn. She had never been accustomed to holding her breath; in fact, she hadn't ever done it before. Nobody had dared her to do so earlier in her childhood, and she wasn't the sort of child to throw a tantrum. She found it a little amusing that she had somehow missed out on this part of her life. She tried to swim back to the surface, but it was a greater struggle than she had imagined. For one, her robes were weighing her down. Ordinarily light and comfortable, they now held a great quantity of water. She couldn't simply rid herself of them, so she'd have to fight against them. She only hoped she wouldn't get tangled up in them somehow. Another problem were here muscles. She was still a small girl, and propelling herself through the water was a great challenge. She pushed herself through the water as best she could, but she still had a few more feet to go, and she was quickly running out of air...

Akiko knew she had to fight against the waters if she wanted to stay alive. She was already approaching exhaustion, but she pushed herself to the limit. Right now, her mind couldn't calculate or strategize--all she could do was survive. Her head was in a fog, and all other sensation faded away. All that mattered was getting to the surface and breathing the fresh sea air again. But, it was so difficult, and she was out of air. She had come so close, but now all she could do was choke down water. She had energy left to spare, but without any air getting in, she couldn't make it on her own. She thought she was going to die...

...until her head crested above the waves. Her natural buoyancy had helped her rise to the surface. Instinctively, she thrust her head back and coughed up a good ounce or two of sea water. Then, she gasped for air, as if there were very little of it there and she needed it all. As she kicked her spindly little legs, she fought to evacuate her lungs and replace its contents with new air. She eventually caught her breath and calmed down a little, but she still wasn't breathing in a steady rhythm. She felt a dull burning in her sinuses and a sizable headache, and her eyes still stung with salty water. She couldn't see the shoreline, but she figured she still had a long way to go.

((...you're kidding...))

Akiko tried to tread water for a while, but she knew she'd tire herself out if she stayed in place. She was veritably blinded by the sea water, so she couldn't tell where anything was. She haphazardly chose a direction and began to swim. As she progressed, she felt the effects of every wave, even though the seas were relatively calm. Each wave would either lift her up and drop her back down or simply collide into her, pushing her away. Still, she gave her best effort and tried her best to keep her head above the water so she could breathe. Little did she know she was heading in the wrong direction entirely.

Eventually, the waves proved too much for little Akiko. They threw off her rhythm repeatedly, and her progress was repeatedly undone when the waves pushed her back toward the shore. Eventually, she succumbed to a particularly large wave and dipped below the surface. The current continued to push her to the shore, but Akiko could do little on her own. She had a fresh breath of air, but the futility of her efforts were becoming apparent. She began to realize just how tired she was, and that made her question the usefulness of struggling against the seas even more. She curled up and began to sink.

Beneath the rolling waters, Akiko's vision began to darken again. She was becoming accustomed to the saltwater, so she could see underwater for brief seconds. She could only make out blurry shadows, but up above she could see the figure of the sun. It hurt to look at it--it was as if she were looking at it through a magnifying lens--but it was pretty nonetheless. It wasn't a perfect circle but rather a shifting, blue-streaked orb of light shimmering down upon her. As she looked out into the sea, she could see its rays illuminate the depths. She was certain it would look much more beautiful if she could breathe. However, there was something else in the ocean depths that she saw. She couldn't make it out precisely, but it seemed eerily familiar. Regrettably, the sun's light did nothing to clarify what it was. If only she knew... for a moment, she forgot about swimming back to shore. She wanted to know what she was seeing. She wanted to stay there, if only for a moment...

Akiko simply floated there for a minute. In those mystical waters, Akiko saw something she knew she couldn't possibly see. She knew it so well, because it was something she saw every day in her heart. Yet, in her oxygen-deprived state, she couldn't put a name to it--couldn't conceptualize it. But she knew what it was, she knew that she loved it, and she knew that it loved her. The figure began to take shape... it looked like a man, but she didn't recognize him. He seemed friendly enough... she tried to get closer, but she couldn't move. A strange warmth held her in place against the rough surface of a rock. Who ARE you? she thought. I... I KNOW you, don't I? As more of the figure was revealed, she spied a smile spreading across his face. She couldn't see his eyes, which she knew were a vital piece of the puzzle. Half his face was enshrouded in shadows, as was a third of his body. He was slightly stocky, probably with more than a little weight around his midsection. His brown goatee covered half his face, but it was kept trimmed and well-shaped. He wore odd clothes, especially for someone who was swimming all the way out here. Then again, Akiko wasn't exactly dressed for the occasion, either. The man, however, must have been weighed down considerably by his attire. His coat and shirt were thick and wooly, and they looked considerably expensive. His pants had ballooned up under the water, making him look quite funny. Akiko would have laughed if she could. He also had a considerable amount of jewelry on, including a strange, golden pendant around his neck. She couldn't exactly smell underwater, but the water that trickled up into her nose seemed to contain a measure of soot. It was oddly comforting, but at the same time, she got the sense that he wasn't supposed to be there. If not the clothes, then certainly something else about him... she couldn't put her finger on it. She wanted to ask so many questions, but she couldn't... at least, not yet. She tried to get closer and break the bonds that held her in place, but then she looked into his eyes and realized something: he wanted her to live. Suddenly, she felt herself free again, and some strange force was practically pushing her up to the surface again. As she broke into the air, she threw her hair back and caught another breath. She was ready to finish this.

With renewed energy, Akiko made a mad dash for the shore. She flipped backward in the water and began kicking wildly. This time, though, she wasn't fighting against the tide: she was riding it. She used her arms for a while, but she soon realized there was little need. She was mostly propelling herself beneath the surface, but from time to time she did poke her head out of the water and begin anew. Within a matter of time, she managed to get close enough that she could feel the ocean floor, even though there was still a couple feet of water above her head. As she pressed on, the waters seemed to get calmer. What's more, she was practically walking upon the ocean floor, though with a fun, buoyant bounce. Suddenly, the ocean wasn't scary anymore. When she got to the point where she could stand up and breathe at the same time, she began to take her time. She played around in the surf for a bit, letting the waves pull her around just a little bit. Her hair was fun to play with, in particular, since she had lost her hairpins a while back. It was just floating around her like a sea hag. She giggled at this and sunk her nose below the water to enhance the illusion. After a while, though, she got bored and returned to the shoreline. It was hard to get out of the water, especially since her dress was now about ten pounds heavier due to the water. She took a moment to rub her eyes and knock some of the water out of her ears before she returned to her aunt. She said not a word but simply embraced her tightly, as wet as she was.

Yuki kept a close eye on Akiko as she made her way to the shoreline. She got a little worried when the current got tough, but the youngest kunoichi of the Tenmoki clan made it out alright. As Akiko came and embraced Yuki, she nuzzled her chin onto the girl's head. "Nicely done, Akiko-chan," the woman said as she began taking off her large lab coat to wrap around the girl's shoulders. Standing there and watching the boat disappear into the horizon, Yuki rubbed Akiko's shoulders to keep her warm. "Let's get you dried off, warmed up and then we'll have to get to work," Yuki told Akiko, giving her a family kiss on the top of her head. It would be tough for the girl to accept being alone on the island with Yuki and no other family, but if the girl kept busy, her mind wouldn't be wandering towards the sad fact.
