Hoshi blinked and turned to look at the woman who'd greeted him and blushed, she was very attractive and it made Hoshi just a bit uncomfortable. "I'm Hoshi, Hoshi Inuzuka..." he started and then managed to collect his wits and then smiled and bowed. "Ano...have you seen any academy students come this way? I was late for class and now I'm lost..." he said sheepishly.

Melediana laughed. In the background, there was Abel busy with his Shuriken lesson. On the other side, was Lula and Kazumei...the two got into a fight with each other again. But all was good for a blossoming relationship... "I would say, 'meet your classmates'...but they appear to be..." Melediana eyed the shurikens Lula pulled out, with a small frown... She debated whether that was considered going too far... "...a bit preoccupied..." Melediana reached into her shoulderbag. "Well - why don't you get started with Target Practice? Here." She handed him a pouch, along with a scroll.

"That is your standard shuriken set. You will find three kunais and six shurikens - it is yours to keep. That scroll...it has extracurricular activities (reference: Academy thread, first post - all italicized assignments) in case you finish early. Your first task is Target Practice - see those dummies there? Use the kunais or shurikens to hit them. You receive one point for just hitting, two points for hitting the stomach, three for the head, and five for hitting the heart. Your goal is to earn thirty-one points."

Target Practice
Each student will be given a basic set of 6 shurikens and 3 kunai knives (or 15 senbon) and taken outside to the wooden dummies for target practice. They're expected to aim for 31 total points.
1 - 5 = Miss
6 - 10 = Just hit (1 point)
11 - 15 = Stomach (2 points)
16 - 19 = Head (3 points)
20+ = Heart (5 points)
Formula: 1d20 + Attack Ranged
Training: 0/31 points
Rewards: +3 Kunai, +3 Shuriken skill (or +6 in a specific ranged weapon category)

Instructions: Roll 1d20. Add your Attack Ranged to the roll. That is your final dice roll. Find the matching range that final roll is in.

"Hai! Well here goes nothing." Hoshi said as he took the shuriken and the looked at the target and took a deep breath drew the Shuriken back to his ear and tossed it to the dummy. He wasn't sure how he'd do in this training exercise, but he was seriously going to do well. "Ano, are you a teacher?" he asked with a nervous smile on his face.

Hoshi was surprised that his first attempt managed to make it's way to the head of the dummy and he picked up another Shuriken and took a deep breath focusing once more on the target. "Okay, just do it like last time Hoshi. It's not that hard." he said to himself as the second Shuriken flew out of his hand. The sounds of the forest were pretty calming, which he didn't mind since he didn't enjoy loud places.

"Aw, no way! That bites!" Hoshi said as the Shuriken hit the stand that the dummy was attached to. He sighed and looked at the remaining three shuriken and picked one up. Deciding that it had been the talking that had done him in he figured that he wouldn't do any sort of talking while he was tossing the Shuriken. 'Here goes nothing!' he shouted mentally. Hopefully this one would hit the target and not the stand or fly off into the woods somewhere. 'At least I'm trying. I can't get much better than that.' he thought.

Abel stopped surprised when he felt Melefiana's grip on his forearm. The heat of her hands odd. He stared at her questioningly in silence, his arm stretched awkwardly far away to keep her from getting too close. He barley dared looking into her eyes and could have sworn... the pain in his finger eased, and dissipated. Abel's visage softened for a second, but soon returned to his usual glare. He didn't look at her when she spoke, but listened intently secretly. When she finished Abel crossed his glance back at her,"Thanks. I'm so glad that I've become so desperately incompetent that I deserve your pity." He felt even more hurt than before. Now he knew it was obvious that he was pathetic. Before he just suspected and tried to deny that they could notice anything. He stepped away and grabbed his bag, three left. Picking a shuriken. He held it in his fingers and stared at the stained strap on his finger, pulling it aside carefully to reveal the healed wound. It confused him, and vulnerability escaped him. Why would she? He chanced to see if she was looking and practiced using only his forearm and wrist a few times. Aiming he held still and used his arm from elbow down. Flicking his wrist like he had practiced. The shuriken hit the stomach. Close to where he had roughly aimed. The lack of pain seemed to cool him a bit. But when the others left and a new boy came. He scoffed, could this get any worse? He had been left behind with the new blood. Abel didn't even give the noob a second glance.

Only two left. His past agreement still stood. If these two didn't let him finish than there was no point in training, maybe even being a ninja. Abel grabbed one shuriken, gazing down at the last one. How could such a stupid little thing be so troublesome. The boy dropped it next to him and discarded it from his thoughts. Once again he aimed closing one eye and lining up the farthest point of the shuriken at the heart. It's about time, I got something good. he thought sighing as he returned both eyes to the target. Standing perpendicular to the post he bent back his elbow and released. It curved upward and at first Abel thought it would fly off the top. He gave up hope and let his eyes drop to the ground in shame. But the familiar "tink" lead his chin back up. A head shot. He wasn't proud. Obviously it was just chance. But had he finally finished? He brightened up a little to count out all that he had done. 27... plus 3. What no. Only 30! Only ******** thirty!? He growled to himself, the last one.

Everything depended on this last shuriken. The deal still stood. But he almost wanted it to hit. Than he might have some satisfaction from all this. This humiliation. Abel leaned down, kneeling above the bag. The weapon hanging out, like nothing in the grass. It shined with how many times it had been sharpened. The thought struck him as odd. That something could look so simple and harmless, yet it that had been created to teach little kids how to hurt people. Kill people even. The irony was impossibly funny, and Abel stood with the star in his hand. Smiling like a madman.

One stupid point he could hit it anywhere. And that would be it. He sighed, closing his eyes and feeling the air dance with his hair. The leaves of hundreds of trees thundered quietly like waves. Not bothering to open his eyes Abel bent his arm and flung from his elbow. His wrist flicking and his fingers extending with the small metal object.

A tink.

He opened his eyes to the whole hilarious picture. Stuck sturdily into the heart. A perfect bullseye. He sighed, "What's the point." Solemnly Abel walked to the wooden representation of his greatest foe. Ripping put each Kunai and shuriken. Leaving the heart for last. Silently he stared at it for a moment. The perfectness was even more clear up close. And he couldn't help it, quickly plucking the irony from the post. He turned and grabbed the Kunai protruding from the ground. And traced one shuriken into a bush. Abel organized them in his hands as he walked back. Neatly laying them in their bag. Each clinked as he handed the bag back to Melediana. "Can I go home now?"

Ranged Attack: 1

Once more Hoshi's shuriken was way off, this time it went over the dummy and a little to the left of the dummy. "Of all the... Come on..." he muttered as he picked another Shuriken and aimed. Apparently tossing things wasn't his forte' but he was certainly going to give it his all. "Nothing ventured nothing gained or something like that." he said tossing the shuriken. This time he wished that it would hit the head again, at least then he'd have more than just a measly three points, which was really starting to get on his nerves.

Ranged Attack: 1

"YES! Right on!" Hoshi shouted and jumped into the air. He looked around a bit sheepishly and then decided that such an outburst would only make him look like a total boob from here on out. "And next! Let's go!" he said attempting to focus his attention to the target. Granted he sucked at this, but this newest success had given him quite the boost in confidence. 'One more time. Come on, please...'

Ranged Attack: 1

"Amazing! Two in a row, how impressive is that?!" Hoshi shouted. Granted it wasn't another three pointer, but he was slowly getting better, or at least that was his hope. If he was only getting lucky then there wasn't any point in continuing the training, save fore making a fool of himself for the rest of the class. "Oh well here goes that one last shuriken. And then the three kunai..." he said as he let the shuriken fly.

Hoshi wasn't sure that his newest accomplishment was all that great, but he knew that he was either getting better or worse, but at least he hadn't missed the target with the shuriken. "And now another one! Lets go!" he said tossing the shuriken. The sound of the shuriken whistling through the air was common now, as was the sound of the birds and whatever was in the training area. Hoshi looked around and noted the various other academy students, none of which he'd actually gotten to know yet.

Now officially out of shuriken, or at least he was more than certain he was out of shuriken so he picked up a kunai and tested it's weight. It was bigger than a shuriken, that much was obvious and he grinned. The heavier weight would require more strength to use, but he might not have to try as hard as he thought he would. "Well, here goes nothing..." he said tossing the kunai.

Hoshi grinned, the kunai had hit it's mark this time, and granted it was the first time he'd used the kunai but he felt he'd done pretty well. "Okay then, how about now?" he asked picking up a kunai and tossing it at the dummy. He felt just a little more comfortable with this weapon even if he hadn't used it before now. His hopes were that this particular thrown weapon would be the one that he was the most proficient with.
