"Ah... right..." Gustave said, nodding slightly, "Well... Time to head to Death Mountain... or Kakario Village..."

Zelda gasped, then turned to beam delightedly at Link, hazel eyes wide and small cheeks flushed. "That was amazing, Link!" she said in an amazed whisper. "There are some writings about the Hero being able to call his mount to him with the song of her soul; the fact that you can do the same thing..." She trailed off, at a loss for words; this was a scholar's dream, and she was smack in the middle of it. In that moment, she was temporarily no longer a Princess trying to avoid a catastrophe. She was a girl with a shiny new toy, and it showed all over her face.

Sophia blinked, then chuckled in spite of the situation. She just couldn't help it. "You think that living in the desert compares to being in a Volcano? It bakes humans alive in under a minute." If they don't have any protection, she added in her head. "The dry heat is enough to melt metal. So not only will you be dead, but your pretty weapons will be history, too." She shook her head. "I would like to say that I pity you, but I have no pity for fools."

Nalani pulled up outside the forest temple, feeling drained to the point of exhaustion. It wasn't the sage that was tiring her; in fact, he'd been a model prisoner. Perhaps it was the riding.

She swung herself down, but made no move to pull the sage down. He was too damn heavy, and would be staying right were he was. She looked at him, her eyes sparkling, and smiled maliciously. "Ready to go in, Good Sir?"

"Neither, first I'm heading home. I don't want Ma to worry 'bout me, and 'sides, if I'm gonna travel around the country, I at least wanna take a change of clothes," Link smirked then turned to the Princess, "It's nothing really, you just have to know how to train 'em, do you want me to help you up?"

Zelda smiled with patience she didn't feel. "No, thank you, Link," she said politely, getting to her feet. She walked over to Epona. "What a smart girl you are," she murmured, stroking the horse's neck. Inside, the joy she'd felt a few moments ago was replaced by a hollow, empty sort of feeling. Even out here, out of her fine clothes and hiding behind an illusion, she was still treated like china doll.

Carefully, Link took the girl's hand and led her onto the sadsdle. He could feel a silent protest from the princess, but seeing as she said nothing, Link shirked it off as his imagination. When he sw that she was at last settle, Link joined the girl on the saddle smiled, "Alright, time to ride."

Zelda pushed aside the empty feeling and nodded. "I've been thinking about it, and I think we should go to the Forest Temple next. By all accounts, it was one of the less dangerous ones, and it doesn't have the environmental hazards some of the others have."

"Of course," Link replied as Epona began her gallop along the path. It was a full ten minutes before they arrived at the Ranch. Link immediately dismounted then held out his hands to help the Princess, "By the way, I've been wondering, how long can you keep up that appearance?"

Zelda turned slightly pink. "I should have taken it off as soon as we were past the Gerudos. It takes a ridiculous amount of energy to maintain." She shouldn't have forgotten; what had distracted her? She shook her head. That was irrelevant. The next moment, she had released the spell, and the illusion dissipated immediately, leaving Zelda as she really was. She smiled ruefully at Link. "Thank you for reminding me. You shouldn't have to do it."

Gustave chuckled slightly, and said, "Well, just wait until your mom sees that you've brought home not only a girl, Link, but your friend is now a fairy..." He smiled slightly, and sighed, "It'll be some... lightness for the dark that we'll have to face..." (Pun not intended.)

Link's face turned bright red, the thought of royalty actually thanking him, it was an odd feeling, "Yeah, Ma sure will be surprised" Link began to walk off towards the main house, certain that his mother would be there, given the time of day.

Zelda walked after him, although she hung back uncertainly. She didn't know what to expect from Link's mother, or even if she really wanted to meet her. I hope Link doesn't tell her who I am, she thought nervously. The less people who knew who she was the safer they all would be.

Link barely had time to step into the house before his mother clinged onto him, "Link you're home," Alana yelled excitedly. With her head on her son's shoulder, the woman spotted the yellow fairy following him around. She squinted her eyes and could vaguely make out the image of a familiar boy, "Gustave, is that you?"

Gustave laughed akwardly, and said, "Haha... Yes... Well, technically, it's 'Gustave, the Sage of Light', But... yes, it's me."

"Yes, I know," the woman responded. Suddenly she felt her son let o of her and she was slightly pushed back so that their eyes met.

"What do you mean you know?"

"Why else do ya think I would hire him, for his amazin' work ethic. Shoot, our family has been keeping track of the sages... well most of the sages, ancestors for generation. I managed to narrow the light Sage down to your friend there, his brother and his father. I planned on hirin' his brother too when he got older but I suppose I won't have to now," the woman laughed as her son stared in confusion.

"And why exactly would you do that?"

"I could tell you, but I doubt you'd like the answer, or even listen fer that matter," SHe responded, referring to his refusal to believe in her great grandfather's Legend. She knew that given time though, he would eventually come to believe.

Zelda stood silently to one side. She felt awkward; these people knew each other better than well, and she was just a stranger, someone along for the ride. It was more than that, though, and she knew it. The almost painful stab of jealousy and hurt she'd felt when Link's mother pulled him into her arms made her feel small and petty; Link couldn't help that he still had a mother, any more than he could help the fact that she didn't.
