I am hopeful for your basement issues to be resolved quickly, good sir. I honestly have no idea the magnitude of the crap you are going through with it, beyond to say it is a crapstorm.

Logan deserves it. It is being lauded as a brilliant film, the perfect sendoff for both Stewart as Xavier and Jackman as Logan, and possibly one of the best superhero movies- if not the top. Granted it is just my opinion, but much of the movie feels like a western, and I loathe westerns. I loved Logan.

I am a RP junkie, and have been playing for Nearly 27 years. While not intimately familiar with a library of different systems, I have so many war stories to tell, and am fairly appreciated for the flair I put into playing. The few times I have run tabletop nobody ever came to me with issues, so I seem to be okay on that as well.

On the front of a PS4- I have begun Horizon Zero Dawn. Ho-lee-shite. This is a brilliant, beautiful, and engrossing game so far! I've been spending time searching out the collectibles (I purchased maps in-game, so no cheating yet), and that has allowed me to grind like crazy. That said, I'm still running into challenges and issues that make it difficult to go willy-nilly. That is a good thing. Giant robot animals/dinosaurs for the win.

Patrick Stewart is reprising his role as Xavier again!? Well, I know what the next movie I'm going to watch is. cool

It's crazy how 3 fantastic games came out almost at the same time: Breath of the Wild, Neir Automata, & Horizon.

Taxes done. Always dread this time of year b/c I always feel like I'm making a mistake even though I'm just using a 1040EZ.

Yes, Patrick Stewart was Xavier one last time. He played a very old (95yo) man, and has absurd amounts of sass in this film. This is partially because of his medication, but regardless quite funny. Comedy relief without being an obvious comedic character. In fact, it becomes difficult to not see virtually all the characters as tragic in that film for one reason or another. It is worth saying that the violence in that film is beyond top notch.

I do not care for Zelda, as blasphemous as that sounds. Thus, Breath of the Wild doesn't really interest me. Nier might come my direction, but that isn't really high on my priorities. Horizon . . . ohhhhhh Horizon. I love the hell outta that game. I can visibly see my own skills at playing it improving. For instance, a Sawtooth (mechanical saber-tooth tiger the size of a large truck) used to be something that made me cringe in trepidation. I just calmly took out a pair of em using my stealth and traps without breaking a sweat. Then, I tried to clear out a bandit stronghold and was dying repeatedly. It was upsetting until I realized the area was rated for level 25, and I was only level 15. "Ohhhh, THAT's why I suck here. I'll come back!" mrgreen

we have a lady we have trusted for years to do our taxes. She's never done us wrong, and we get it done quick and easy. She costs like $75 this year, but it is nice to get it done and over with.

I'm transitioning from Client A to Client C, while staying on Client B, so transition & ramp-up are positively eating me.
And then Easter prep...

@Xavier: Medication in-character or OOC?

@Horizon: Sounds great; always great when game enhance the build-up of mastery.

@Taxes: Not bad.

Xavier was getting medications in-character. He is so old that his mental control is starting to slip . . . ailments of the mind are not uncommon for those of advanced age. However- he is the most powerful psychic on the planet. He's a nuke with a faulty trigger.

Horizon is proving interesting- though I am starting to feel like I'm in a bit of a rut. Like most RPs, you begin to be inundated with side quests. On the other hand, just through exploration I have started running into more and more creatures/machines that I cannot face easily. What used to scare me like Sawtooths (think a saber toothed tiger the size of a small truck) and Snapmaws (alligator the size of a bus) are no longer terrifying. They are a challenge, but one I can take on. Hell- I can even hack them and turn them against their fellows for a time. Instead, I am finding massive mole-machines and cyber T-rex analogs. In the meantime, I am happily overpowered for the actual plot as I have been out exploring and grinding for a while. Collecting collectables and such. Not required to play the game- but extra benefits are nice.

Hey Wellie. *gluggles*

@Xavier: that's a fascinating idea, the consequences of a psychic aging.

@Horizon: that balance is always difficult for open world games, balancing the open world progression w/ the core plot progression.

Yeah, I keep running into the occaisional super big machine . . . but each has gone through a "Oh crap, watch myself" and "I can handle this" stage. Many are "No problem" at this point . . . but two I have encountered are still enough to make me stop and be very careful. Well, three if I am honest. Thus far, only one of which I have actively avoided to the point of not even trying to kill it.

The giraffes are a great evolution of the open world "map tower" concept, especially since beyond just moving they are apparently placed so as to make each a unique puzzle of its own.
PostPosted: Tue Apr 25, 2017 5:26 pm

Indeed. The Long Leg machines thus far have been extremely non-threatening. They have made no aggressive moves, and treat you as if you aren't even there- even as you climb on their heads. The only aggressive move I have seen them do is when you override them to steal the map data. When you jump off their platform head, an e.m. pulse seems to damage all machines nearby. Not enough to disable, but enough to make them hurt.

The EMP is there to add incentive beyond the map it seems. Not a bad idea, and it's only a minor boon overall.
PostPosted: Thu Apr 27, 2017 10:31 pm

The map data is there to let you know where things are, like the lair/spawn points for various machines just in case you have not been there yet. As for the emp, sometimes you need to sneak past machines instead of taking them out. A nice weakening blast is a great boon to make it a little easier to survive.

Emperor Ecchimau

Rare

PostPosted: Fri Apr 28, 2017 8:33 pm

Suppose I should reintroduce myself since I've been inactive for quite some time.
A pleasure to meet your acquaintances. I'm Emperor Ecchimau, though you could just call me Emp or Mau for short.
I don't quite recall when I joined, but I've finally found some free time and I'd like to spend it rekindling whatever smoldering ash of a muse I've got left.
Feel free to just, I don't know, chat with me about whatever, or even throw an RP my way. I'll be doing my best to do the same.

Hope to speak with some of you soon!

Always good to see returning faces, Emp. I encourage one and all to spark up convos, even if only to reconnect and find like minds. Despite the recent topics of conversation, we are all able to brainstorm, talk about things that made us happy in games, or great ideas.

perhaps if we can brainstorm ideas, then maybe we can drum up some momentum for games. smile

                  I shall procrastinate on finals by setting up a freeform RP. This is the only solution.
