Maybe it's time to try and run an RP in here. A little something-something to give people a reason to check in more frequently.

RP in the entire site has been ignored for years, so any sort of attention is a welcome sight. As for starting something here, I would always welcome and support such in the Refuge.
Nice to see you, by the bye, Wellie.

Hey, Welian, good to see you around.
I would love to RP, but not sure I can make the time commitment.

I was going to get into an old guild that may come back . . . but before even having approval for the character and powers I am dealing with approval bullshit. Turns my stomach. I shouldn't have to deal with three+ layers of approval for a concept.

One of the downsides of larger-scale RPs, where there isn't the benefit of a single GM to adjudicate on the fly.

More like I shouldn't have to work so blasted hard to get a concept together and approved. I had an idea fleshed out, and they balked. So I changed it to fit their requests and system . . . only to have them ask questions that were answered before I changed it. Frustration kills the desire to write in my experience.

I am toying with the idea of moving to a different genre. Bleach has been my go-to RP for years now. Perhaps it is time to seek out a new genre. I could dust off Wraith or Octave and go to my love of the mutant/X-Men style bit. Trouble is finding a decent RP. The same plague that has killed several games and been the death of this place is not limited to such.
Anybody know a decent superhero/mutant RP guild? sweatdrop

Established properties help gather groups for RPing, but the trouble is finding the common interest in such a franchise.
Unfortunately, no, I'm way out of the RPing scene & the Gaia scene.

That is kind of what I was going for. An established franchise allows you to gain a general feel for the expectations and requirements of a game. When somebody says the name, you immediately understand what will be the general idea. Each game has a few caveats and alterations, but the primary bits are there.
thankfully, I think I found one that will work. The application process was a bit heavy, but we shall see how it comes together.

Glad you found something. Which IP is it based on?

Its a variation of X-Men with cannon characters for history, but all players are OCs. Nice to have some of that.

OCs are the only way to do franchise-based RPs, IMO, b/c playing an existing character is fraught w/ so many problems (especially if not everybody is one).

I completely agree. Many times (even in the Refuge) I have seen characters played and completely miss the mark. Heroes become homicidal assholes, and villains are just punching bags. I really dislike that sort of situation. OCs sidestep that, and allow the same world, but new and true interactions between characters.

They can be GM-controlled NPCs, but that still leaves the door open for lazy writing/planning.
