Morning arrived as Kai awoke. He was still groggy as he looked at the paper on the other pillow. Picking it up, he read it a couple times in his head.
Bathing, he finally felt awake. He was sure this was one of Pix's games.
Feeling refreshed, he dressed in full battle gear as he knew today they were leaving for the "adventure," as he called it. It was probably for the better that they would be trained as they traveled. Tanner would say it saves time.
Making sure not to look shaken from Pix's note, he confidently walked into the dining hall and ate some strawberries from a silver platter. His stomach was growling.
Just then Tanner walked in, and Kai greeted him with a nod. Lucas arrived shortly after.

 There are no such things as coincidence.Evacy woke up with the sun, feeling better than she had last night. Finished dressing, she went down the stairs to the dining hall, where she saw Kai, Tanner, and Lucas. "You know, they say kings of old went crazy from eating off of silver plates." Evacy said, sitting down next to Kai. There is only hitsuzen

When Pix left the note, Ryken opened his eyes a slit and shifted just a bit. He noted Pix, although he didn't know who it was. He subconsciously noted the pose, the lack of weaponry in hand, and the general demeanor of the intruder, and it didn't register as danger to his mind. It was partially due to his current exhausted state, having spent most of the previous nights awake, watching for fishmen and other unruly creatures. Regardless, he went back to sleep before Pix had even slipped the paper under the blanket.
He woke up the next morning with the slip of paper, crumpled up in his hand. He slowly opened it up and read it while still shaking the cobwebs out of his head. He read it once, and was immediately wide awake, and jolted upright to sit up on the side of the bed. He read it again, closed his eyes, and rested his head in his hand. "Damn... I let my guard down."
As he dressed and slowly walked down the hallways towards the dining hall, he rationalized to himself a bit. "It's not like we're out in the middle of nowhere, we're in this nice secure castle, why should we expect an attack here?" he muttered that to himself, among other things. Once he got into the dining hall, he sat down near those who had already gathered. He greeted Tanner with a nod and the others with an introduction. "Hey. Name's Ryken, nice t' meetcha."

He had been sitting against a wall sleeping until someone he hadn't seen walked by. He had woken up as soon as he entered the hall. He saw the letter in his hand and resisted a laugh when he heard him speak. He followed along after him not really caring if he was noticed or not. He wanted to tell the guy that as a mercenary you should expect an attack no matter where you are, but he resisted not wanting to make enemies with somebody he didn't even know yet. He followed him into an expansive room full of tables and benches. It seemed so much bigger than it had the night before when he had come there for some water. He looked around and with Pix absent he went and sat opposite the girl whose letter he had removed from her room the night before. Remembering he patted his pocket and felt the paper still there. From how she acted Pix had obviously not noticed that it was gone. He must be getting sloppy. I would have thoought he would check everybody's room again to make sure they were still in place. "Good morning everyone." he said since he knew only a few of their names.

Kai smiled at Evacy's comment and shrugged his shoulders as he finished eating the last strawberry on his plate. He put some more onto his silver platter.
Tanner greeted everyone with a tired "Hey," his eyes drooping as he propped his head up on his hands. He hadn't slept much last night. Deep down, he was very worried for everyone's safety.
Not everyone was here, but he decided to ask anyway, "Did everyone put on their combat gear?" These precautions were necessary in traveling to another city.
Kai was the first to speak. "I have mine," he said in the middle of chewing a strawberry, pointing to his belt with small pouches and his thick cloth traveling overshirt. His sage green cloak was draped over the back of his chair.
Tanner remembered something. Leaning over to speak quietly to Kai, he said, "Remind me to give you something after breakfast. I think you should have it."
Kai nodded quickly and smiled. A present.
Gerard brought in a single tray with a curved lid as he greeted the group. "Good morning sirs and madams, good morning Lord Tanner and good morning Sir Lucas." Gerard smiled as he lifted the lid, revealing sliced apples and many thin strips of ham.
Lucas's eyes widened as he saw the sweet smelling food. "Good morning to you also, Gerard!" he said, patting him on the back.
Tanner put a slice of ham on his plate and absentmindedly cut at it with his knife.

Pix had more or less ignored Andrea and Kiro, and eventually made his way to the dining room where, upon seeing that all the others eating, growled audibly, "So, now I'm leading a group of corpses," He said scornfully, "Well that's the missioned ******** good and proper, isn't it?" When none of them replied immediately Pix began to pace slowly, deliberately, drawing out the suspense. "Next time I shall use a knife," He warned them, meaning every word of it, "And I won't think twice about cutting you. as far as your embarrassing performance last night, I have this to say: you are all corpses, and as we all know, corpses don't eat, so there will be no meals today and water rations only. Lord General, if you would please have your servants clear the food from my men, I will answer then answer the questions of these useless curs."

Tanner was visibly frustrated. Pix was pushing it a little to far.
"Can you give them a little slack, mate? If they don't eat they'll be even harded to train!" he said, standing up from his chair.
Kai hurriedly jammed all the food he could into his mouth before Pix decided to throw it off the table. Lucas covered his mouth so he wouldn't laugh audibly and draw Pix's attention to Kai.

Pix didn't have the time or the patience for Tanner, "Anyone who suitably impresses me today during training will be fed. The trainers," Nodding at Gregor and Ryken," Will also be fed. My men will learn to work for meals." It was an answer of sorts.

((Note that Lucas and Tanner are helping to train too, maybe just overall and not individually. Unless that won't work. Just making sure you know.))
Tanner thought it over and gave a slight nod. It was good enough.
"Alright, that sounds fair. I won't clear the table though, since us trainers are still eating."
Lucas nodded heavily at that comment, happy the food wouldn't be gone yet.
Tanner sighed. Pix was being so harsh. Maybe in the end it was for the better. But now he felt bad for everyone, especially Kai. Kai was his best friend and he didn't really like the idea of him getting hurt. Well, all the better to train him then, that way he won't get hurt.
Tanner shook his head to clear that thought. That reasoning was his army way of thinking, which he often didn't care for much. But it was a good idea.
That present would help, Tanner figured.

He ate slowly trying to watch Evacy to see what her reaction was. After a little bit he got up and walked over to Pix to speak to him alone. "There's one person who I don't think will be able to be trained in combat or at least won't be able to kill anyone." he whispered to him. He thought for a second trying to come up with something that Pix might let her do instead since he wouldn't let anyone get away with doing nothing for the troup. An idea hit him. "How about I take her on as my apprentice and that way we'll have someone else who can help with making medicine." He hoped Pix would agree with is idea, but he wasn't sure what Pix's thoughts on the matter would be.

By the way, both Pix and Catriona are illiterate, we thought it made sense for the time period and our characters.))
"Fine, teach her, find some books on it, but you'll have to read them to her. I highly doubt a simple maid would be able to read and write I myself am not even capable of that."

"I'm guessing that she would be able to do so herself perfectly well, but if she can't I will." he said angrily "Even a simple maid probably possesses more knowledge than you do." his words practically dripping venom. He then thought for a second and wondered how Pix had know who it was that he was talking about. He had never really mentioned anything about her or to her, at least not while he was around. He didn't really care though thinking about what Pix had just said.
