Neko Kafweenu ((prepare yourselves for a rant))
I hate our band class! I got seventh chair and some of the players above are only taking band to get their fine arts credit and hate band and I'm better than them! The flute section gets a bad rep for being the noisiest section, and we get yelled at all the time by my biased director who has rose-colored glasses for the stupid brass section who can't play nearly as well as the woodwinds! The percussion section can never shove a sock in it and never are with tempo and AAAAAAAGH!!!!!!!! We do the stupidest crap and play random scales and rhythms, and I know that helps you, but the BD tries to make it fine and tries to make class funny and tries to be cool and he's not!!!
Which is why, as much as I like flute, I'm not going to take concert band next year. I'll still be a band nerd, cause I still love playing music, I just don't like our band class. I had the same exp. ^_^ itz no fun. But oh well. I learned to deal with it cuz itz no use. If u do well on the other competitions and do better than those in front of u, u r better off cuz school band usually counts almost like nothing. so i just don't bother thinking about it.

I'm sorry. >> I'm lucky in that our BD doesn't really judge by section. Every once in a while she'll make a crack about how trumpet is "superior" (she's a trumpet player) but that's it. She knows that a lot of the flutes DON'T practice and pretty much never do anything, but she knows that I work my a** off and actually CARE about the class. Which is good.

Which is good. a lot of the flute at my school don't ever practice either! it's really annoying because sometimes when we play, one by one they start to stop playing until there are only a few of us left.

Karu_Chan I get to spend Saturday Feb 12, marching a mile and a half in Wikkenburg's Gold Rush Day parade crying Since i'm a flute, I am at the front, and if i mess up the whole row behind me messes up. sweatdrop I've had to march in a 3 mile parade around the neighborhood, IN THE RAIN. It sucked so much, since we also had to wear our parkas which don't smell too good, and they made us get all hot and sweaty whee By the time we were done my shoulder was killing me.

I'm seventh chair too xd I really choked when we had auditions, and Miss Hoffman won't let us do challenges, which suck. I play a lot better than the 3rd chair flute, and practicly everyone knows it cuz' in jazz band when Mr. Rhoades singles us out to play a part that doesn't sound quite right, I nail it where as she totally screws the whole thing up. Our flute section has a bad rep for the continuation of playing even after the BD has cut us off. I kinda wish I had a BD that would make things fun... Whitmer has 3 BD and all of them are pretty boring, cept' maybe Mr. Novak. He's awesome, but I don't get him cuz' I'm not in symphonic whee

YESH! Our flute section has gone from 10 to 8. blaugh One girl dropped and another girl had to switch to the other band because of scheduling conflicts. Though I'm gonna miss her... she yelled at the other flutes when they didn't listen to me. xp Oh well. Our flute section has SHRUNK! YES! XDDD

Though I'm gonna miss her... she yelled at the other flutes when they didn't listen to me. xp Oh well. Our flute section has SHRUNK! YES! XDDD lol xd we have about twice as many floutists than that, which sucks cuz' they always miss Ab and A natural and it's really noticable, and because they treat everyone that plays the same instrument as one big section it's like its all of our faults that they miss it. Jazz band is better cuz' there's only 5 of us, and sometimes the BD singles us out so you can tell who actually sucks and who doesn't xd

We have about 18 flutes TOTAL between the two classes, but ten are in the other class. Only having eight now is VERY nice. ^^ Though half the section still sucks. >>
