Just for simplicity's sake, I'll say that you put it in the hole.
As you place the sphere into the wall, it begins to glow. The light diffuses into the wall around it, and the sphere goes with it. A large beam of light splits the wall in half, cutting through the hole, and it swings open like two giant stone doors.
On the other side of the wall is a massive glass column with blood running through it. When it reaches the top, it spills back to the bottom and is reabsorbed into the system. You hear Cy wretching beside you from the appalling scene. Off to one side, looking at the glass column, is a man in a black hemp cloak with a shackle hanging from one wrist.
"Horrible, isn't it?" asks the man, "I only wish I could destroy it. If I had the means to, I'd remove this stain from the Earth."

That thing....... it's disgusting. How could anyone even do something like that.I look over at the shackled man and then back again at the glass column. What have you done that made them shackle you here?

"Wait a minute, Valient." Cy says, "Isn't that the guy you're after?"
"I wouldn't doubt it," the man explains, "I have a rather large price on my head. I suppose since you asked, I could tell you what I'm on the run for. I was orginally with a group of adventurers who did little more than try to explore the world and find treasure. We did well for ourselves, and had quite a reputation going, but there was something lacking. We needed purpose, and when we heard about this abomination we found it. We dedicated our lives to destroying this monument to genocide, but this damned village was too well guarded. We were all captured, but I was the only one who could escape. Now I want to fulfill my group's mission, but I just can't do it anymore. Destroying something like this would take enormous firepower."

Yeah Cy it's him. I said as I leand up against a nearby wall trying to soak in everything that the man had just said. So where will you go then after we free you?

"I'll find a new group of adventurers to ally myself with" he says, "eventually we will destroy this atrocity and then we will go our sperate ways. I will most likely return to my life as a travelling bard."
"I wouldn't advise of destroying this outright." Cy says, "Trust me, nobody here wants to see this thing ruined more than me, but it's just not feesible. The city is held together with the magic held in this blood. If you destroy it, all the parts of town held in magical space will be instantly crushed into nothing. That would make you just as bad as the people who made this."

He does have a point but if you do figure out away how to safely destroy that thing do it and since your a bard I wonder if you could get us an audience with the king or whatever the lord of this town is. Turning to look over at Cy, It seems the kings daughters been kidnapped and he needs adventurers to go after her. This could help us out what better way then making the man who runs this city owe you his daughters life.

"Haven't you seen the posters?" the bard asks, "The king will grant an audience to anybody right now. He wants mercenaries to save his daughter from the clutches of an "evil dragon" that used to be their ally."
"Typical" Cy says, "a princess goes missing and a dragon is the scapegoat."
"I'm afraid that's how things work here. Here's the problem though: I'll be able to get in without question, and you in the cloak should be fine. However, if the ranger tries to get in without hiding his race, things could get ugly. This town hates anybody who isn't human, and you won't be able to get in if you don't hide yourself."

Is that true, hm well I guess bard you'll be going in mine stead, while I wait for you guys outside. I said with a sigh. Unless if either of you has a ppolymorph spell on hand that is.

The bard looks down, embarrassed, "I was never any good at transmogrification spells. I have an illusion spell!.....oh wait, that only works on me. Sorry, nothing I can do."
"I don't have any good spells for this either," Cy says, "We're going to have to rely on some kind of outside magic."

"I hope your aren't expecting to get some of my reward." The bard jokes, "The king is promising a pound of peppercorns for anyone who brings back his daughter alive."
The two leave the area through the mysterious door, and it closes. From this side, the door you came in through looks like any other.
